When I was in high school, my classmates dad broke his own leg with this whip during practice. So I know it’s difficult to learn and dangerous.

@Enso Martial Arts Shop It numerology 9: In Chinese, nine is pronounced jiu, which also means “long lasting.” As the highest single digit, it represents the maximum level of mortal happiness, longevity, and good luck. BUT while 11 lucky master number and winner it can also symbolize loneliness or being single.

It's interesting to compare these to antiques from Neil Anderson's collection. Pieces from both the North and South were far heavier, tending to weigh over a kilo. For number of sections, they were all over the place, but usually on the lower end making each section beefier. Would not want to be hit by one of those things!

@@EnsoMartialArts there also for flags, the ones on the end on the dart are for wind drag and control as well as to provide a awareness to the location of the dart to avoid striking yourself, the flags create wind drag and creates more control for the user as well as allowing the user to hear and see where the dart is so they can calculate its location. The ones on the handle are also for flags they are mostly for ascetics and appearance but also for control when the handle is being used, flags are mainly used in tournaments and in demonstrations to create a visual aid for the judges so they can see the dart and the technical ability of the competitor, the ones on the handle are mainly for appearance but also serve for wind drag the handle when it is being used. Both ends are used with this weapon, although the handle is used less frequently it is still applied in this art when double spinning both ends. These flags also create distraction to the opponent as our sense of sight is the sense most related to motion and the rad flags create visual distraction to the opponent. The whip chain is one of the most difficult weapons to master or even use and these flags are incorporated when a person is in training to help avoid injuries when training.

@The Illegitimate President that’s because the user and judges are aware of the nature of its actions when a opponent would not have the ability to observe or be in tune with the weapons nature as he is avoiding being hit with it. A judge is sitting there watching and knows the combat or kata being performed a user has control over the weapon and knows what he is doing with it but the opponent is unable to know when or where it will be used or applied and the fast action limits one ability to judge its position. Anyway the flags are mainly for tournaments and training and I have never really heard of people using flags in real combat. But in sparing and training they are used this way. And anyway I am only presenting the information I’ve been taught so it’s not me saying these things it’s what I’ve learned from years of training and study. Like I say when your in control of something you are able to know it’s movements far better then someone trying to avoid being hit with it.

Hey man, totally depends what you're buying. If it's just the chain whip, they're quite small so maybe around £20 - £25. Email me at shop@ensomartialarts.com let me know exactly what you want, give me an address to send it to and I'll sort a quote for you.
