LYRICS: Please set me on fire Waiting for your signal Waiting for a sign Looking upward I wait for the divine Won’t you come down and reify yourself? Be my fire lily On the blackened ground In the city On a quiet night You can hear us Set ourselves alight Oh let me transcend And be a flicker in your eyes Wait for the spark I’m no good at goodbyes I wana be ash in the atmosphere Please set me on fire, set me on fire Can you strike a match, make me disappear? Please set me on fire, set me on fire I’m sick of being broken I’m sick of being bruised I’m a quarry Deserted and disused Won’t you come down and clear my state of mind? Be my excavator And tell me what you find In the city On a quiet night You can hear us Set ourselves alight Oh let me transcend And be a flicker in your eyes Wait for the spark Please set me on fire

*Back to comment a third time - I just saw a reaction to this song, and wanted to share here the thoughts and comments I left on the channel in question*: I'd like to sing the praises of Enter Shikari here; this is a phenomenal track to start off their new era. So many elements from all of their previous albums, and a true testament to the progression and constant evolution of Enter Shikari as a band, and each individual member as a musician and creator. This song has literally blown a new breath of life into me in my current world, and it is truly invigorating. I'd also like to touch upon Rou as a vocalist and lyricist; lyrically, this is so well condensed into the theme of candescent and incineration; all the themes of fire and flames, and desolation are so well entwined and honestly I'm torn between the two options of whether Rou has so easily stumbled into another vibrant topic and pumped out a fantastic theme, or whether he has meticulously crafted another verbal torrent of passion after so much time working on this song; neither outcome would be disappointing to me, I love this man to pieces and he is an idol. Additionally, his vocal ability continues to astound and inspire me. He is so truly and purely himself in vocal ability and timbre, however he always seems to add something new each cycle. I don't know whether anyone has pointed this out anywhere yet, but the high-end "set me on fiiiiii-ii-i-iii-ire" in two of the chorus is stupid-impressive. I originally thought he had processed those vocals (and there will naturally be some FX on there), however the way he squeaks out that vocal line is something I have NEVER heard before, and I'm absolutely astounded. I cannot put into enough words how much this release has effected my heart and mind; and I know that's what they've set out to achieve. Rob's drums spread more and more across different rhythms and cultural spans. Rory C continues to inspire me as a guitarist with innovative and daring composure. Chris continues to demonstrate his ability as a sturdy support to a fantastic frontman, in being such a stout and devout backing vocalist and integral part of the orchestration. Jeez, I could write a paragraph on each member but I feel like it'd come across as overdoing it. Oh, and this is all off of the back of ONE SINGLE. I am unabatedly and passionately excited for this new album. Boys, keep being yourselves and attaining excellence; it nourishes a lot of us; we will all still be here, standing like statues. x
