I am SO GLAD Brittany spoke up about Shein. I live in a literal third world country and deadass can't afford clothes from our cheapest stores. Shein is the ONLY platform that has 1) clothes I can afford, 2) clothes I actually want to wear and 3) is not terrible quality. Also it is size inclusive and that is so rare for "trendy stores"

@@xxchemicaldreamsxx you're right but it's the same with the people who make the clothes for any department store, litterally most clothes are made by exploited workers in the global south, in third world countries. If i bought a swin suit from a climate concious shop with no exploited workers it would cost me over $100. It would cost me a weeks worth of work. Buying Ethically sourced clothes is a privilege and it shouldn't be

I’m so glad you’re talking about the whole clothing situation because I was recently thinking about how as a person who works minimum wage, if I buy clothes from SHEIN or Cider or ROMWE or what the hell ever because it’s affordable then I get shamed. I can’t go buy thrifted clothes cause they’re too expensive now and there’s nothing that I’d actually wear because people go in there to buy everything cute and resell it. And the most simple pair of jeans will run you 30+ dollars in normal stores. I get that fast fashion is bad but being shamed for buying it when there’s nowhere else to buy clothes without spending a jillion dollars is ridiculous

As a poor person I 100% feel this. It's so hard to find clothes anywhere and I feel guilty for buying from fast fashion brands but as of right now with high clothes prices everywhere else I'm just entirely out of options.

It's out of control honestly. I think there is valid criticism of people who spend hundreds on these site just to film a tiktok and then get rid of the clothes or people who buy cheap clothes to only wear it once for Instagram before moving on to the next trend. but so many people just buy a few things and then wear it for years!

So I've worked at a TJ maxx for 3 years. And I remember one time (I'm fairly tall and over 200 lbs) I finally found a dress that fit me at work. And ever since I've been hunting down this specific style of dress that compliments my figure instead of the fucking MOO MOOS they design for larger women. I decided to look at every store in my city. All the thrift stores included. I went to Macy's, JC Penny, kohl's, Maurices, rue 21, forever 21, those over priced boutiques, mom and pop shops. And in every single instance there was nothing in my size. Keep in mind I'm not even huge on the plus size scale. I'm literally one size above XL and barely reach a 2X. And when I do find those choices, they're bat shit expensive and ugly. They're literally catered towards older women, there is no shopping market for young plus size people. PERIODT.
