I was lost with my GF in Young-deung-po and stumbled into this slummy area at the back of the subway station. It was a bit spooky but no problem walking around in the late night. Not a slum compared to some of the other slums around the world. It was the most peaceful "slum" if it's called a slum.

It's great to watch you embrace your Korean skills, despite not being fluent yet. Witnessing this stage of your language learning journey, where you're beginning to use Korean at a basic level, is truly inspiring. A major hurdle in language learning, which often leads to failure, is the misconception that one should wait until they're fluent before using the language in conversation. This is a significant misunderstanding. In fact, actively using the language from the very start is a crucial aspect of learning a new language. Keep it up!

Hey Dan, I'm pretty rubbish with interacting with KZbin videos but just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos. I lived in Korea for years (Bundang 2 years, Itaewon 4 years and Mapo 2 years) and left last year. I started watching you when you first had the Pirate Dan videos. You have an incredible knack at communicating with the locals, and your respectful curiosity is fun to watch. Thanks for showing people other parts of Korea that they wouldn't know about, and exploring more than the K-Pop razzle dazzle that everyone thinks it is. Keep it up, and please go eat some Myeongdong Kalguksu noodles for me, I miss it desperately!

the people in the Yeongdeungpo slums are not truly poor. there are many people who live there aiming for redevelopment. there are many speculators who live there hoping to receive compensation of as much as $1million to $1.5million per person. therefore, those people are rich. when you look at their faces of people who have suffered.

I've lived in Dangsan, Yeongdeungpo, which is pretty close to where you filmed, but I don't consider it dangerous to walk around here even after 12 a.m. It depends on what region you are in. Even in Gangnam gu where a lot of rich people live, there are slums. I think Daerim dong is more dangerous area than here. I think Koreans all know why. By the the way the old photographer you interviewed is well educated and speak great English, thinking of his age.

I really like this video and the channel for numerous reasons. This is my first time watching his videos and I'm going through his channels thinking "why and how have I not seen this channel?". Here are my reasons why I really enjoyed this video and why I will continue supporting his videos: 1. He is extremely respectful and polite. Not only is he equipped with the language, but I think he understands the culture and language enough to give respect to the local Koreans by speaking trying to speak Korean as well as knowing polite phrases. His politeness is also very noticeable throughout the video which not only helps with the process of his interviews, but also gives respect towards local Koreans. 2. The format and style of the video. The videos seems to be in a "travel blog" form, which the KZbinr Bald and Bankrupt made it famous, showing authenticity, and the feeling of actually being in the video. 3. His interviews are very well conducted. Throughout the video, I noticed his interviewing skills are well founded and is able to obtain depths and details, while also considering ethical practices. Overall, his videos show great quality!!!

“Most feared slum” is an interesting choice of words without providing the context. There is no neighborhood in Korea like Harlem in New York where you could be assaulted or robbed simply by walking in. There are gangsters in Korea, but they are not like the gangs in L.A. They don’t threaten ordinary people in street much like Yakuza in Japan.

the people in the Yeongdeungpo slums are not truly poor. there are many people who live there aiming for redevepment. there are many speculators who live there hoping to receive compensation of as much as $1million to $1.5million per person. therefore, those people are rich. when you look at their faces, they are not the faces of people who have suffered.

I discovered your page as I was researching visiting Seoul, and sometimes the KZbin algorithim just knows what you need...In my case it was your videos. As a Korean I love watching your interactions with the Korean people, and I am ashamed to admit, but your Korean is better than mine. I just finished the Japan playlist and I am so amazed at how nice and warm the Japanese are, each video was so enjoyable to watch. Selfishly I want more Korean content, but I think you should defintely do the North to South Japan trip, that would be amazing. Sorry for long message, just wanted to express my appreciation for you and your content!! Be safe always.
