the fact that the decades the enterprise B was in service was never explored is downright criminal

Always loved the Excelsior class design. Massive, yet graceful and just screaming "I am powerful!" Sad that we never really got to see this design except in snippets and cameos. I'd have loved to see the first time a D7 encountered an Excelsior class. That must have been an interesting meeting.

In the lore, the transwarp drive did not go as Starfleet had planned. However, the ship performed exceptionally well in all other tests and it was decided to retrofit the vessel with an upgraded warp drive and put her to service. The Excelsior was listed as a space command control ship and first response to any situation from the Klingons or Romulans. When it passed all the tests, it was commissioned to the NCC service and Captain Hikaru Sulu took command of the Excelsior in a shake down cruise. This was all done before the USS ENterprise A retired.

According to the U.S.S. Enterprise Owner's Workshop Manual, the Enterprise-B was involved in the Tomed Incident that paved the way for the Treaty of Algeron, charted the archeological remains of the Debrune in the Barradas system, and helped relocate a number of Bajoran refugee ships to nearby planets in Federation space after the Cardassians annexed Bajor. In 2329, the Enterprise was lost, presumed destroyed after the crew reportedly contracted a dangerous infection, but exactly what happened after the ship's final transmission to Starfleet is unknown. 🖖😎👍

The true successor of the Enterprise-A has always been the U.S.S. Excelsior under the command of Capt Hikaru Sulu. It’s a crime we never got a series based on that one Voyager episode that was basically a back door pilot…

The shuttlebays were not adjacent to the impulse engines. There was one shuttle at at the aft end of the secondary hull and possibly a second in the cutaway on the bottom of the secondary hull.

I've always loved Eaves' Excelsior-refit for the B. Yeah she only got it so they could partially trash the model - but her skirt looks so pretty and gives the main hull a grandeur and elegance that the regular Excelsiors lack IMO. Only thing I'd change is swapping out the OG impulse engines for a second (third?) Shuttlebay for the saucer section.

This ship served during the time referred to by fans as the "lost era." Apparently since (at the time of writing,) there has not been extensive portayal of the era in further installments, there are a lot of open questions/missing pages. Quite a fascinating idea really

The second ship was completely destroyed and with Scotty's help they were able to save 47 out of 150 people who were on board the Lakul and among that ships survivors were Tolian Soran a man who became obsessed with getting back to the Nexus and the other survivor was Guinan who would later become the bartender of 10 Forward on the Galaxy Class Enterprise D nearly 80 years later.

Would've been great to see more of this ship. Amd in some ways as much as i loved the A - now i kinda wish theyd flown around in the Excelsior in Trek 4 - 6 like the original idea - would've freshened the movies up with a new ship and a new name...love the Excelsior class - looks tough and different.

Transwarp wasn’t a failure. It led to the new warp scale.
@darrellhall6622
@darrellhall6622 8 күн бұрын
You can blame the failure on one engineer, Montgomery Scott. By taking the command chips from the computer, the transwarp drive would not work. Luckily, it was a failure. A successful flight could have cause the Borg to show up early then they did. Remember a signal was sent to Borg space from the sol system which would take 200 years to reach it. A transwarp drive would have brought them faster and the federation would have fallen.
@qubex
@qubex 6 күн бұрын
There is absolutely no reason in canon to consider the transwarp drive experiment to have been a failure. Indeed the fact that by TNG the warp scale had been recalibrated suggests that by then all ships were using transwarp drives.

I find it highly unlikely that the B was decommissioned unless she was damaged beyond repair. She was either destroyed or lost.

From what i can recall from Star Trek lore the E-B was in service for a little over 30 years when it disappeared without a trace. The last known transmission from the ship referenced some sort of disease on board.

woah woah woah! The 23rd Century Transwarp tests were not a failure they were in fact completely successful, redefining warp drive and the Warp scale. Yes they were briefly sabotaged by Scotty during the events of Star Trek 3, but don't you think if he was clever enough to break it he could fix it to a point were it was better than before and incapable of being sabotaged the same way again once he was done being a fugitive from the law? also you completely forgot to mention her Cloaking device.

I would enjoy a "B" series.. and maybe even a "C" series.. so long as the "C" series followed one of two rules.. 1 - Absolutely NO preluding to its fate.. 2 - Nothing BUT preluding, to it's fate. They couldn't be cheeky about it.. Yesterday's Enterprise is essentially the Series Finale (..or post series follow up movie) for the ship. Watching Generations first and then creating TNG shouldn't make us as viewers be jabbed with 7 years of ominous winks and nods.. BUT.. if the entire series WAS just about it's fate, it's history from launch to Narenda, it could work.. maybe a.. Starfleet documentary series.. It starts with Yesterday's Enterprise, the ship as it enters, travels through then exits the temporal rift back in their own time, we see the battle, we see a probe of some sort fired by the Enterprise-C and travels off and goes into warp, after another minute of fighting we see them get boarded.. a small amount of de-aging face swapping with Casteo and Yar.. a simple shot of them on the bridge, (on fire) as Romulans beam in and they are stunned.. fade to black.. voices are heard with the screen still black.. "This mission recorder was launched from the Enterprise just prior to its presumed destruction, your job is to review it in its entirety to make sure our records are complete, that nothing has been over looked and make sure the data is in tact for posterity" Fade in, we see a Lieutenant in a more primitive Holodeck and he or she simply says "ok.. computer, lets start at the beginning"

Disagreed the traswarp experient failed, but they engine they developed was 3 times as fast as the enterprise , ( the fastest ship ) they ended up coming up with a new warps speed scale as a result , Excelsior was in space dock and was refit and commissioned and had a 4 years of service before enterprise b was launched and they had already made several other Excelsiors the second Excelsior was usss polaris But the b was a different design , or a variant design ,

I like to believe that after the unfortunate end of the Enterprise B; its crew being wiped out by a infectious virus, that Starfleet recovered the vessel. Their FLAGSHIP being disabled in such a shameful way; while also being a powerhouse star ship that couldn't just be wasted, they decided to rechristian it to the USS Lakota. The same ship that fought the USS Defiant many years later. It makes sense when you notice the Lakota is the only other Excelsior to receive this "refit".
