The USS Sovereign NCC-73811 is the same USS Sovereign used in the game Star Trek: Bridge Commander which has the same registry number which now makes this version of the Sovereign class official. This game is nearly 21 years old.

The showrunner and FX house agree with you; the main reason they had this particular copy-paste Fleet is due to shortage in production time. They had originally planned at least 3 ship classes

I feel the intention that they put the Defiant, Enterprise, and having Janeway too is to show how dangerous the construct is. Heck hero ships with no plot armor? The villains in this series are extremely dangerous.

if E is seriously damaged, but not destroyed, maybe we get the STO E retrofit when it's rebuilt in cannon. Picard season3 the E could be getting rebuilt as there will be a lot of repairs needed across the fleet. It could also help to explain how there are so many new 25th century ships, like the Neo-Constitution. If a significant part of the fleet is destroyed, they'll need a rapid construction program which lends itself to established designs with current technology to rebuild a decimated fleet. I actually think it's an interesting story idea, allow the writers/designers to push out into new territory in a way that is believable rather than keep bringing back our favorite nostalgia. If Prodigy is 2383 and PIcard season 1 is 2399, maybe this is being used to explain why Starfleet built all the Inquiry class ships.

I don't think they'll refit the E in Picard 3, since the F is active during that season, and for a while already according to the showrunner. I honestly can't imagine the E doing anything active during that time, other than being a museum piece. And lastly, two active ships bearing the name Enterprise seems illogical.

The Sovereign warped out of the fleet when shit started to hit the fan, perhaps to warn Starfleet, but then the construct took over and it warped back in to the battle.

It seems as though the Sovereign models being used had the Sovereign titles and registry on the saucer and the Enterprise name and registry on the nacelles? A weird choice, but it gives them flexibility to have at least two ships in the fleet with different names but they needed to shoot them from certain angles to avoid continuity errors.

Glad to see it. Hopefully it does a little something next episode. Think it's important anytime Prodigy and Lower Decks shows ships we know and love, in their canon state. It helps to prevent the live action NuTrek from screwing around with the look of something. If the E is shown wrong in Picard next season it just proves its not canon to Prime timeline.

The second shot of the 1701-E on the nacelle, if you go back a few frames earlier it says "USS Sovereign" on the saucer. That one is a goof.

Why needs the E to be destroyed at all? The second A was retired after all.. so why not turn the E into a museum... when you have a better, newer ship class to take it´s place?

Because a less than 30 year service life for a capital ship in an organization that is dedicated to deep space decades long exploration missions is ridiculous. A shuttle fine a small escort no problem but a heavy cruiser? The only way it works is if the ship is basically wrecked. Operated beyond its operational limits is one option. The Enterprise A before it was announced as decommissioned had a torpedo penetration to it hull in its final battle which probably sealed her fate.

I would imagine that this is where the Enterprise E would be destroyed at the end of this season and it would be the final Canon. Another prediction is that the only way to stop the weapon is to destroy the protostar in the final episode.

I saw on another channel that all of the Sovereigns in both of the episodes had USS Sovereign on the saucer and 1701-E on the nacelles. It's just the model they used... Another bit of "oops" from the animators (like the upside-down Prometheuses a couple weeks ago).

Since they didn't call attention to it outside of the brief shots (no glam "wow this is the Enterprise!" shots or POV of characters on the bridge), just think the boring answer is that they had the E textures on file from Paramount, changed the front registry on one, and saved money in terms of animator work time by just Ctrl+C the texture on the others. I know some may say "it should be just easy to do -blank-", but it just looks like a production saving thing to me.

Whilst it is potential that the E is destroyed, why is the automatic presumption? It is certainly possible that the E was merely decommissioned (too much hull stress etc).

The show-runner for Picard S3 has specifically stated that the Enterprise-E is NOT in the final season but a Sovereign class ship IS. The confusion might be due to the fact that the Ent-F will be introduced in what sounds to be a cameo and NOT a ship the the cast will travel on (instead it will be the Titan-A).

The USS Enterprise-E was not destroyed in this event that occurred in 2385, it had another renovation after that, only in 2388, the USS Enterprise-E was destroyed by the invasion of species 8472.

If that is the E, it directly contradicts a news story I read yesterday about the Sovereigns in this episode, none were supposed to be the Enterprise. So I'm thinking they overlooked the names of the ships in this one.

They've confirmed the sovereign class Enterprise E won't be be Picard. However, a sovereign class starship will feature at some point

I believe this takes place before they retired the E as their flagship, and the Odyssey Class was still being developed in blueprints at Starfleet Corps of Engineers is what I'd like to hope.

Ha, you guys probably digest this way more than anyone else. :) They probably messed up. The Enterprise E shouldn't be there. The Sovereign should. They just used the model and didn't think anyone would notice. That is, unless they want a cameo in the finale by Worf or La Forge.

Why would the E not be there? We only see one ship labeled it and there are clearly shots of it. We also see shots of the Defiant so I assume this was purposefully to show hero ships. I know it probably came pre-equipped with that registry but we know they specifically showed the Sovereign and removed it from other ships. Why would this be a mistake?

PIC S1 prequel novel established Worf as Picard's successor as Captain(yes THAT DS9 episode was addressed) and Terry Matalas said they weren't going to disregard that novel so if the E is really in this fight then Worf is on the bridge

I never liked Worf as the captain. He never showed any interest in being a captain and his plotline in DS9 (including THAT episode but also at the end) seemed to show him going on a different path. I don't understand why after TNG the Enterprise always has to be filled with legacy characters. It feels cheap to me.

All Sovereign class models were labeled as USS Sovereign on the front, but all had the NCC-1701-E on the back. I really don't think the E was "there"... If that makes sense?

Copy/paste error or intentional we don't know yet. That said, I don't feel the Enterprise-E, as a hero ship from the films, should make it immune to the writer's plot device. Irreparably damaged and later scrapped by Starfleet? Possibly. It may not be the answer some fans prefer. But it may finally settle the question of the starships fate. And permit us to feel free to embrace the Enterprise-F. Which was going to have to happen eventually.

Its a good fleet set-up, but clear that they had no intention of people looking closely. Just disappointing that they couldn't set up ship models coding in a way that you could quickly change registry numbers. Its not like they are filming models where they need to be physicals changed, they're all 3D CGI models. You would think that would be a easy thing to do. Star Trek Online for example lets the players change the models registry number in a menu and then its on the ship.

I have never had this idea before, but I like it. What if the E-E is decommissioned after 20-25 years (a bit early) because it’s been damaged and refitted so much that it is retired because it’s been damaged too much, too often - like an athlete that retires due to too many concussions. What do you think?

All of the Soverign class ships had 1701 E on their nacelle and saucer of soverign so pretty let down standard wise but brill episode although 1 more thing why didnt holo Janeway tell dahl augments couldnt get in to Starfleet from day 1? Still fab show though x

IMO, I'm with others that it is maybe just a production slip. They did a good job with mentioning other canon stuff, yet if the production was in a hurry to just create the Starfleet armada, they may had just scanned the ENT-E and did not think to change the number, Same with the Defiant. They may had intended to be other Sovereign and Defiant class ships, not the ENT-E and Defiant. Heck, did we even know what had happened to Voyager after returning to Earth? Look at the armada in Picard, for they are all the same ship, due that the production did not have the time to even make other ships. So yeah, it's a production slip IMO. Unless they truly intended for the E and Defiant to be destroyed, I'm guessing they did not intended this, for they had wanted to indicate other Sovereign and Defiant class ships.

You both missed one IMPORTANT point!! It is ABSOLUTELY possible to destroy the NCC-1701-E two+ times in the same Canonical timeline. How? If you destroy the E now then ANY Sovereign Class ship can be recommissioned into another E.

Okay, looking at this.. I don't think I like what they did with the windows on the Sovereign class. They put them in these weird square boxes that are raised above the outer surface of the hull. Based on this, it looks like they've been pushed out by nearly a foot, which is bizarre, to say the least.

Yes, them not changing the ship registerys for each sovereign is on the lazy side, maybe they didn’t have time, these things happen in production. We should just be thankful that they didn’t pull what they pulled in Picard and Lower Decks, and just did a Ctrl C/Ctrl V of ONE SINGLE BLOODY SHIP! That is one of the many things I will forever hold over the head of Alex Klutzman, along with how they WASTED the opportunity to re-enact the Wolf 359 fight using that Borg Cube and the Tal’Shiar, and don’t get me started on what they’re going to do to Worf in season 3. Good god they’re going to RUIN him.

It fits that it's the Enterprise E. Maybe this explains its absence in Picard. Perhaps this breaks the old Federation Fleet so much much that it also explains why Starfleet ships in the Picard time, have Windows on the on the bridges. They are all newer designs. Again, I'm not a fan of the giant bridge window view screen but I'm old and Trek must grow.

With this era of nutrek, I have zero faith that anybody in the production gives a s*** about anything canon or making sense. I'm with you on the assumption they had a model of a ship in the database so they used the model of the ship in the database. Simple expediency.

I don't see any reason to think that? A lot of the new shows spend more effort trying to fit together then the old ones did. Only really in DS9 did you ever see plotlines and lore continue previously. And even if it was done for expediency that doesn't make it not canon or not interesting for a story.

And on top of this extreme coincidence there is also the most famous ship of the entire fleet, the Enterprise present? No, just no.
