People were way too hard on it. If they could have seen a sneak preview of Discovery 15 years in the future they’d have changed their tune.

The effects look better than Discovery despite premiering almost 2 decades before.

The problem with Discovery’s effects is it tries wayy too hard to take the JJ movies and crank it up by 10, not understanding that most Trek fans were not fans of JJ’s overuse of lens flares and other stupid lighting effect shit. The 90s/mid 2000s were peak because they still focused on ships like they were actual characters. But since Discovery alot of NuTrek, especially the live action ones have forgotten that the ship is just as important as the main cast.

that’s not exclusive to discovery, most modern scifi is like that (for example the new seasons or Doctor Who, everything has to be a glowing blob of CGI) imo scifi peaked 90s-2000s, but if you went back nowadays and tried to do the old VFX again it would just look goofy.

Yes the use of models we're discontinued after First contact when CGI had improved to that point.. this show was full CGI.. if they could do that back then.. then if something looks bad today they just don't care enough to do a good job. Less $ spent.. more of a cash grab.

Honestly, the work of back then would still be just fine. Just keep it simple, tell a story, but have some effects on the side.

I believe because they lost the Temporal War they were wiped from history as there species was genetical altered by people from the future. In this episode they are referred to as a primitive race so I am assuming they stayed primitive and never invented space travel.

I think that modern federation ships should have polarized plating underneath their Shields. The Enterprise seemed to be able to take a beating even without Shields.

@eurekasfavoriteman

the polarization of 24th Century might not be enough to protect them from more than a few shots from weapons of that era, its best hull plating is used for 22nd Century maybe up till end of 23rd Century since apparently with the 23rd into the 24th century the warp scale was increased meaning that all weapons are also more advanced and powerful, hull plating is still useful in the 24th century for disrupting energy of different types, thats why i guess in TNG, DS9 or VOY they polarize the hull during specific situationsm even reverse it sometimes.

@@theodoreeliaseronsten5468 Wasn't that added by Sisko after it was transferred to DS9? I’m sure when it fights the Excelsior class ship in, I think ‘Paradice Lost’ the captain of that ship says something like ‘It looks like somebody equipped her with Ablative Armour and neglected to tell Starfleet.’ This suggests to me it wasn’t standard on the class at the time.

I'm guessing Enterprise got some kind of ECM upgrade after this encounter, it seemed a little too easy the Suliban were able to knock out all power in the ship like that. (Strange it didn't affect the gravity plating, though! :P)

Fighting in space is different, you've got to account for orbital drifting, that makes calculus for weapons trajectory a real nightmare and makes projectiles easy to avoid. Of course Star Trek cannot give a battle tens of thousands of km away because it would be boring to watch also...

@@kirishima638 if I had to guess, it's the same reason they only shot them once, and missed every shot. Plasma cannons are terrible, whereas their torpedos tend to at least hit stuff, even if they aren't doing much damage or like... ever popping shields.

@kirishima638 Жыл бұрын
@@iami3rian394 That's another thing, the torpedoes that Enterprise had in season 1/2 were awful. We literally have better, faster missiles and torpedoes today. There's absolutely no reason why this future starship, capable of warp speeds, should have such slow, weak torpedoes. I know they were trying to emphasis that Enterprise was lower tech, but these were really stupid.
@iami3rian394

@@kirishima638 bro, that always makes me so mad, too. They'll fire two at a tiny bird of prey, both hit, and their shields will be holding. Their 22nd century shields. Their 22nd century KLINGON shields. Like, come on. And that was their GOOD weapon. Sometimes I feel like the Vulcans expected the enterprise to get toasted, so they could hold them back further. They knew how incapable the ship was. Hell, I feel like a nuke would do more damage than their torpedos did.
