I always loved the low, warm lighting inside the D's crew areas, especially as it looked in "Generations". It is somehow very calming and reassuring.
@valecrassus78352 жыл бұрын
There are a few conflicting theories as to why the lighting changed so radically from the show to the first movie---the official explanation at the time of release was that it was essentially to cover up the seams and imperfections in seven or eight year old sets, props, wardrobe, and equipment originally built for standard def television that would be shown in anamorphic widescreen. The ones championed by fans usually involve claims that the production of the film allowed for much more time and funds for much more dramatic and expensive lighting on sets per scene rather than having everything standardized for the quicker turnaround times needed for filming a weekly series.
@royfokerpoker1802 Жыл бұрын
@@valecrassus7835 LoL. All that is bs. It was just to look more "cinematic" and dramatic, more "movie cool" they call it. They did it for all the movies, and it was stupid
@valecrassus7835 Жыл бұрын
@@royfokerpoker1802 I think that's exactly what I said in the second part of my reply. I found it pretty distracting since I was used to seeing everything clearly lit in the show. I didn't *hate* it except where it made it difficult to see---which was a lot---but I disliked it a lot less than what they tend to do these days, which is the same thing except with super bright lens-flaring backlights.

I thought it fit with the motif of fire in the dialogue, which made it seem ominous to me. It also just feels unnerving after seeing countless calmer scenes in those quarters with the subdued lighting.

These videos are so amazing. I'm obsessed with your channel. I have ADHD and struggle to focus, but these really help me. It doesn't have all the distractions of regular music, but it's also way more interesting than the typical boring ambient music - every few minutes I smile to myself because I feel like I'm on the Enterprise. Something about being part of a crew full of competent, well-trained, and highly motivated people is inspiring. Well, except for Barclay before he got his shit together, I suppose :)

It would be expensive, but Star Trek has already proven that it's possible; all of the sets were practical which means they can exist (they pretty much had to be since CGI was pretty rubbish in the late 80s when TNG started, at least as far as photorealism is concerned). It would be expensive as hell and honestly you would probably have to build the room somewhere outdoors with practically no light pollution and a clear view of the sky to get the best looking space backdrop, but it's definitely possible.
