How did you like this breed compared to the isa browns? My hatchery sold out of these so I just ordered the Isa Browns. I need chicken that can fend for themselves on the farm like my bantams used to do. The black sex linked seemed like the best pick. Hopefully the Isa will perform well.

For egg laying I like this one much better. The eggs are good size, I wouldn't call them large, probably a large medium. The eggs in the carton on the intro to this video are theirs. I have 10 chickens and right now, in their second year, I've been getting 6 or 7 eggs a day. They did quit laying altogether for a couple of months during the winter, which was expected. I don't try to keep them laying by using lighting in the coop but I do switch them back to chick starter for the extra protein, as they also molt about that time . They aren't very friendly though as the ISAs were. The browns would follow me around when I let them out and were easy to get back in the coop. But their eggs were not a very good quality. Size was large but the whites tended to be very watery. And as the chickens got a little older the eggs themselves started to be deformed looking. I hope you have better luck with them now that you have them ordered. I feed my chickens an organic mix that I get from Fleet Farm.

Thanks for the reply, How long did the Isa browns last on your farm? My chickens will be free range during the day and coming in to perch in the horse barn at night. I hope to get a dark yoke eggs like my bantams had. I got my best dark eggs when they rummaged in alfalfa bales in the winter. I think I will pre order some black sex links for next year as they look like a hardy chicken.
