Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith slapping him at the 2022 Oscars on Tuesday night at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival in Los Angeles, shortly after Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage. Now, an eyewitness tells ET that Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were backstage when the shocking moment went down.

That’s when he made reference to Jamie Foxx and the audience cheered. He also made some other jokes about the attacker like how he grabbed his hair and it was spongey, and something like “thank god he was slippery”. The show was over anyway so people slowly started filing offstage except the hip hop set that was up next.

He didn't go off script again though did he? Had Will been at a comedy show then his response would have been different but he had a reasonable expectation that in this setting there would be no personal attacks...and the joke wasn't even about Will. Christopher knows better...🤷.

To me, the open hand slap that Chris endured is worse even though less injury; more degrading & humiliating especially from man to a man; after reading about Chris’ upbringing, just a sad state. I never heard Will apologize to Chris either. I’m glad Chris is over it now & moving forward in a positive light. I was concerned about him afterward when he was quiet and reclusive.
