So many of us never get an apology, never get the money we've lost, nor the sense of safety CASSIE has received. I'm very happy to see justice for her. But most of us have a story like mine. Im a current victim of DV. I can honestly say ALOT of people do not give af. My own Uncle has a multiple bedroom house and plenty money...the only help he offered me was chastising me asking why did I go back?! I got stalking, phone calls, and a group of men in my area upholding abuse....a huge intimidating factor! These DV shelters hoard women who are hurt and leave them to lashout, verbally attack, and trauma dump on each other....the shelters have counseling you have to wait on, resources you have to wait on, and very few can help you get back and forth to work to build up your bread. You have to ask if you can eat, wait for someone to bring you food, deal with a curfew....so it's not really like you get your dignity back their either..you got wait for it. The employees at the shelter act like they are God and just did you the biggest favor - versus understanding if you didnt have to be there you wouldn't be. It takes months in court for the trial. It takes lots of care and compassion and SOOOO many people just don't have time, heart, or adequate resources to really help you. Going back to a job, a house, a situation to appease someone versus opening your mouth to tell and get help often makes more sense because DV victims are scared of and humiliated by the things abusers do. Its like making a choice of which option of undignified treatment will you choose!!
