But that's part of the theme of the show, and of apocalypse situations in general. One of the recurring themes in the storyline is of struggling to maintain hope for a better future when any attempts at such keep getting knocked down. Despite the zombie apocalypse being completely fictional that theme is very relatable to a lot of people's lives, especially those suffering from chronic depression.

Rick Grimes was about to died at some point in the show. For TV. show's Critics like me "The Walking Dead" die the day they kill Rick Grimes only bloodline Son Carl Grimes the second most important character in "TWD" series if You really know what happens in the comics past present and future stories then You know that killing Carl off for ratings Value because the show is being plagued by low ratings for long now and they needed a big death character in the show to impact the fans, and because they refuse to pay the actor Chandler Riggs+Carl Grimes to save money for actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan to keep his (Negan) character in the show for two years more, was basically killing the show future hope because Carl Grimes suppose to be the last survivor in this injected apocalyptic world as Rick's only child because Rick is not little Judith's biological father was Shane and Carl Grimes best storylines to Henry or Judith Who is no a part of the Grimes family because like i say before Rick is not little Judith's biological father was Shane, is an insult to the show is an insult to the fans and is an insult to Chandler Riggs+Carl Grimes as an actor who gives his entire childhood to AMC and TWD show :-) Denise C. Carl was the definitely the first domino to fall. It essentially destroyed Rick as an engaging character. Their dynamic together was the heart of the show. Everything went down hill from there.. Rick became boring and Andrew Lincoln has hinted that he no longer enjoyed playing the character as much. We lost characters like Maggie and Jesus because they knew the show had peaked. And with Rick gone all together (future movies aside) it’s hard to care about the show at all. Who are we even following now that Michonne is leaving? Carol and Daryl? They’re cool. But that’s like killing off all the Star Wars character except Han Solo and Chewie, and then giving them their own horrible movie. It’s just bad business

The problem is there is no endgame, in Breaking Bad, The Soprano's, True Detective, Fargo, even Game of Thrones now, there is an end goal, we do not know what it is but we know these events cannot go on forever, but in The Walking Dead it just keeps chugging on with nothing changing. In TWD comic, each story arc feels like it could be the end of the overall story, when it isn't, we are quickly introduced to a brand new interesting situation so it feels fresh.

There is something about the walking dead show that i can't put my finger on...like the general camera quality is shit, the shots all look kinda cheap and blurry, the sets look lifeless and dull, not to mention every single episode is shot in some forest.
@jadduck6 жыл бұрын
The end game was *supposed* to be to find a sanctuary where they are safe from walkers, but that completely became irrelevant when walkers no longer posed a threat. That's the problem, they literally destroyed the entire show by focussing too much on other people and the rivalry and tension between groups of survivors as opposed to the actual zombies. They can't even go back because the way viewers view the show and TWD story has completely shifted. There were so many nail-biting scenes in seasons 1-3 where we genuinely got uncomfortable watching characters battle walkers, whereas now we just shrug it off because every outcome is the same. The main characters never succumb to zombies, and even when they do they, for some reason, decide to do it off-scene as to almost purposely reinforce that negative association we have. AMC TWD literally just suffers from poor decisions and even poorer show-writing. People like Gimple should never be allowed anywhere near such a large-scale production such as TWD.

@eldermillennial83306 жыл бұрын
Numa Deuxmille WILL DIE could just mean that one or two will live long enough to see the new world begin before giving in to exhaustion, but regardless, I’m not the least surprised that the current people in charge don’t want to touch the original Whisperers arc with a ten foot pole. Killing Carl to save money was just their excuse; I’d bet my teeth that they REALLY don’t want to touch that story because it makes radical Feminism look bad. Their leader is a woman who talks like a Feminist Professor, spouting the usual crap about how men are “all rapists” just barely restrained by civilization, and so while she is in charge, she thinks she can only control them by letting them screw whoever they want, including her daughter, and THEN Carl proves to her that Chivalry, even in this world, CAN be real, and the realization that her whole world view was a lie is apparently destroying her, to the point that she’s about to lead her people to their deaths, or so I am guessing from where I left off.

I heard many different reports that Gimple and Andy were working on a way to have Rick leave the show, but I am almost certain that the final nail in the coffin for Andy deciding wholeheartedly to leave is due to Carl’s unpopular death. I recall an interview excerpt with Lincoln basically saying he was searching for a reason for his character to keep going and what it means to Rick. Knowing how Andy really gets into his role, basically method acting, it’s no wonder he felt no connection anymore and would have rather been with his real family!! Sorry for rant...

+Dreamy-And what's really sad about The Walking Dead's demise is that at the beginning, it was a much different zombie show. Where the story and characters actually mattered. Where the characters are multifaceted and lovable. Where there are intense, heartbreaking, and often devastating things. And Darabont's signature style made this show so beautiful and heartbreaking. This was a show tailormade for him. He was perfect for this kind of show. To me, the show died when they kicked Darabont to the curb. I knew right after that happened there was never going to be any consistency with the show anymore. And the show just slowly devolved into a mockery of itself where the characters became far less fleshed out and likable. And it just kept on spinning its wheels to where it's never going to go anywhere.

Fuck Glenn, tiresome character always on the same bit that was far too similar to other characters. Plus it stayed true to the comics by killing Glenn. The only disappointing bit about killing Glenn was that Negan's jokes about it were not politically correct enough for the show so were omitted. Abraham was a far better character which they squandered and also gave dead end story arcs and plots to. I guess since they already killed Denise on the show as replacement to Abraham's death in the comics, something had to be done. The actor probably cost significantly more than other cast members as well.

Purple Pumpkin I agree, I honestly thought they sidestepped that issue when they revealed the Abraham was getting the bat. But I'd would've been fine with Glen's death had it not been right then and there. If he'd have been left alive, allowed to see the birth of his child, been within spitting distance of the peaceful life he was yearning for with the war coming to an end, but then he ,not Carl, died saving someone else, it would have been a great send off. He could have had his last words with Rick and Maggie at the same time, with Rick interpreting it as "make peace" and Maggie hearing them as "avenge me". That would have made a clash between Maggie and Rick hit harder with them both trying to honor his last wish in their own way, Rick doing so to make a future that will be peaceful for Glen's kid as well as his own, and Maggie aiming to eliminate all threats that could upset that peace by any means necessary.

Skipping season 4 would have been nice. The artsy episodes with lots of dialogue and almost no action were not enjoyable. They were supposed to be character-driven, but the characters weren't driven to do much but flap their gums. The entire purpose of a video production is so the writers can show, rather than tell. Don't tell us who the characters are; show us. I think the writers don't trust the audience to make the right conclusions, so they bog down the show with talk, talk, talk, talk.

That was when my wife lost interest in watching it, as we both love horror and zombie movies, but beating Glen the death with a bat, just after finding he was alive, was not only cheap, but it was done in a completely brutal and heartless manner, just to try and stir up controversy and sort of say “look how wild we are!”
@DanteYewToob5 жыл бұрын
I think the show got knocked down when Glenn died, but had a chance, and it fully died.. took a bullet to the head when Carl did. Killing Carl proved that they were only interested in shock and awe, and that we wouldn't be getting the great story from the comics. At this point in the comic, Carl became a badass and had an amazing story ahead of him, and Chandler was finally 18 and old enough to film full time! But they killed him. To me, that was unforgivable and I haven't watched since. I was waiting for Carls story to pick up, and was excited when he turned 18! Especially after seeing his scenes with Negan and the saviors and seeing how his acting had greatly improved and looked forward to seeing him kick some ass.. Carl also represented a way to get the show back on track for me, that if they could just get Carl right, that maybe they could get other things right as well... I have to say that more than anything it made me lose all interest which is when a show truly dies in my opinion. Even boring show, an irritating show, or a show that drops in quality can still be watchable... Game of Thrones for instance, we all kept watching after the drop in quality. But TWD made me lose all interest in watching after Carls death, he was the last interesting character I gave a shit about.. Daryl has become a joke and is invincible, uhm.. Carol is boring now... uh... idk honestly I don't even remember who is still alive that I care about... father Gabriel maybe?... but nah.. and to me that is the worst offense a show can commit, is to make me ambivalent, or completely uninterested in what happens, to not even want to watch out of curiosity or loyalty. If I have to think _that_ hard about something I care about... a show is dead. R.I.P. TWD

danteelite/ They kill Carl for ratings value because the show is being plagued by low ratings for long now and they needed a big death character in TWD someone near Rick Grimes character to impact the fans but Carl's death now change drastically everything in the show forever but no for good because Carl Grimes was the the world future hope as Rick Grimes only bloodline son and giving Carl best Storylines to Henry or Judith Who is no a part of the Grimes family because Rick Grimes is not little Judith's biological father was Shane is an Insult to the Fans is an Insult to the show and is an Insult to Chandler Riggs+Carl Grimes as an actor Who deserved better after he give his entire childhood to AMC and TWD show. Chandler Riggs father William Riggs think that they also Fired his son Chandler Riggs from the "The walking dead" show Two weeks before 18, birthday after they say they need Chandler for the show last 3, seasons because he wanted a little more money for his son Chandler Riggs because they suppose to pay him more after his 18, birthday and something like that was happen with Emily Kenney (Beth) they fired her from TWD show just week's before her 18, birthday but in Chandler Riggs case was more for ratings value and because AMC is losing money with this show that is no longer the #1 TV. show in ratings on sunday's nights when new season's start since mid-season 5, so because they losing money they desire to kill Carl at last in the mid-season 7 to die in season 8, without say anything to Chandler Riggs or his family because Chandler's contact in the show was for 3, years more but AMC needed that money that they suppose to pay to Chandler Riggs after his 18, birthday to have money for actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan to keep his Negan character in TWD for two years more and Carl's fans still so pissed off about it because Carl Grimes was the second most important character in TWD he play an extremely important part in the comics past present and future stories as Rick Grimes Only bloodline son and Killing him off was basically Killing the show future because Carl is the last survivor in the comics. and now all that is gone without happen in the show as well his great potential to beat the world like his dying mother Lori say to her beloved son Carl Grimes in her future view's for her son before she died in season 3. this show SUCKS as HELL they fucked up a great show when show with Carl's death and now is too far gone to fixed because is Completely ruined. the show now is like watching another stupid Zombie show on Syfy channel without a real story arc why? because what was make TWD show so special was the beautiful and unique relationship between a father and a Son, between Rick Grimes and his son Carl Grimes and the HEART of TWD series was Rick and Carl. Actor Norman Reedus say this after Carl's death and he was so direct in his comments against Amc and Scott Gimple he say this, when a show Writer destroy the relationship in the show between a father and a Son like in "Walking Dead" the show is over because the show Writer destroy. the show real arc center story, and for me the show original main key cast characters are the hardest ones of the show if the writer Kill this show main key characters them he lose the show and right now We don't have to many of this main key characters in TWD. and if the show Writer want to write for another show story then he can kill all them but if You want to still writing for the same show story ad the show Writer, be careful of what You doing with this main key characters in the show. Actor Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon ) say in this comments in his Facebook page after Carl's death and he so Angry about it like Andrew Lincoln Too. heavy Walking Dead spoiler Movie idol was made a video about this actor Norman Reedus comments and he was totally agree with Reedus :-) Laurend M. @@bleach405 No he didn't, he just bought a house right next to where they film, and decided to not go to college for 2 years to do acting full time. He was learning a lot from Andrew Lincoln and said he was excited to work full time finally and get to spend more time with Andy and Norman and learn more about acting. Also, his dad came straight out and said that killing him broke his heart, that he was depressed after it happened and his dad was really mad at the show because they gave him almost no notice and just did it without consulting him, and again... he just bought a HOUSE right near the set, and then they killed him off... seriously a dick move, they could've just said ... "Hey, maybe dont buy a house!" So Chandler Riggs obviously has to be professional, and say he agreed... because that's how showbiz works... but his dad told everyone the truth and when you look at the obvious stuff, like buying a house, putting off going to college, and talking about how excited he is to work fulltime with Andy Lincoln on social media... that shows that he had no idea they were going to do that, and he wasn't on board.

For me, TWD died when I realized the show was never going to answer any real questions like "how did this start?" and "how will things be fixed?" Once I realized the show was essentially a drama about humans living in a world with zombies and not humans trying to strive for something other than finding a place to live, I was pretty much over it. Them taking Eugene to Washington got me really excited because, finally, there was greater goal but once that fell apart and things went back to "find settlement, fight enemy", I lost hope. I didn't even realize Rick's last episode was his last episode until that season's finale and that's what really did it for me.
@Glooks0 Жыл бұрын
It’s hard to explain, but there actually was a way of beating the apocalypse. It wasn’t through some magical cure. It was through outlasting and starving the zombies. No matter what, the world would eventually reach a point where the zombies would starve and grow far too weak and decayed. After that, society would slowly start to reform. Idk why you got so hooked to that ‘Eugene-to-Washington’ point in the story. Eventually after Negan and Beta/Alpha Rick and the others would find peace. Rick ultimately passing away and Carl telling stories of the adventures to his daughter- *atleast was what* would’ve been the plotline had Carl not been stupidly killed off.

To me, since Terminus and Gabriel's Church, I feel like the characters lost their initial "spirit" I don't know how to explain, but it seems like they are all different, since Alexandria the show has just stagnated, they all seem off, they don't have the same energy they had in other seasons. In Terminus, they were still POWERFULL but now, since Alexandria, it's like they lost it like they lost that drive they had, and now, with Negan the writers finally took everything away from them, made them completely weak.
@futurestoryteller6 жыл бұрын
I think they might have been that way for longer than you think. The show is not interested in defining them as characters. It's much more abstract than that, they're just "the group," "Rick's people" or "survivors." I said it in a longer comment, they're basically interchangeable. They exhibit little to no sense of individuality. They've all become subtle variations on the same "personality." What little variation there is seems dictated by hierarchy and circumstance. If Maggie were in Rick's place there is no reason to believe Maggie's behavior would be overall different from Rick's, and so forth.

The biggest thing about it in the comics is that it was what invigorated the remaining members to rally together to take down Negan. The show starts moving towards that, then BAM, Negan does something that sets their plans back. And then they do that again, and again, and again. Whereas in the comics, it was pretty cut-and-dried. You're wrong about Season 2. Season 2 was actually one of the show's best. It gave us a chance to focus on the SURVIVORS for a while w/out the thread of other humans. The zombies were still very dangerous at this time, & Rick's group looked & felt more like a family, even beyond Lori & Carl. I miss the vibe that the show had back then. I think Season 4 was really the beginning of the "end" for the original vibe of TWD. Also, Scott Gimple ran the show into the ground between seasons 7 -8. Negan held the show hostage for two seasons & was the most overhyped character this show has ever introduced. He never really paid for what the damage he caused, & I think it's ridiculous that viewers are now expected to somehow empathize with or root for this particular character. "Major character death" is just an attempt to grab ratings now, & the TWD franchise is bloated w/ a prequel that has lost it's way ever since the Clark family (save Alicia) was killed off, & "World Beyond", which has been boring af, even w/ the arrival of Jadis. Now that the comic itself has concluded, its definitely time for the main show to wrap it up.

My only problem is that a single season only has content worth 4-5 episodes. But they spread this across 16 episodes. So nothing happens besides the first, mid season and final episode of each season. The show drags on boring and uninteresting plot lines, only rarely doing anything mildly interesting that furthers the plot. And then it pads that episode by another 4-5 filler episodes, making viewers wait till the end of the season once more. This shitty tactic wore me out. After season 7, i just couldn't take another dose of 12 filler episodes before seeing another repetitive plot line unfold. The show should have ended quickly, before it ran out of ideas. Problem is this exact pattern exists with many american television shows. Quality before quantity doesn't seem to something the studios have heard about. Oh how the might hath fallen

Franchises that have the whole "characters can die at any moment" gimmick ruin themselves if they don't fully commit. People watch to see which character dies next, and they lose interest if characters keep surviving against mounting odds. The real bullet to the foot is if a death gets faked out. The writers are saying that they can bring characters back from death if they wanted and any stakes that have been built up are instantly thrown out.

Chandler Riggs father Williams Riggs was very angry about the way they treated his son Chandler Riggs because they say at first before all that happen that they him for 3, years more, Chandler's father post in His Facebook page the real two stupid reasons AMC and show runner Scott Gimple have for fired his son Chandler Riggs from the show two weeks before his Son 18, birthday.:) Ps. actor Andrew Lincoln departure from TWD series has a lot to do with the decision to kill Carl more than anything else. I think it was worse in the show because they faked his death not long before which made it feel cheap. In the comic it's an impactful, depressing and brutal scene. It should be all those things in the show but instead it feels manipulative

This was amazing. Another thing I would point out that makes me so bored and annoyed is it seems like every character goes through an arc of rage killing because they are angry someone died, or they go through an arc where they don’t want to kill anyone. Characters like morgan, carol, tara, rosita, sasha, etc have all gone through one or both of these arcs. i’m sooo done with seeing that.

While every other character is loyal to something, Eugene will easily change sides if he things that's gonna give him a better chance of survival. no, he hasn't always been a highlight. he never was. Glenn's death was the most predictable moment in the show since everybody was always talking about this moment from the comics for years. I've heard and read it dozens of times even though I've never read the comics. Also, every season had some kinda teases with his death. For example at Terminus, when he almost got killed with... guess what... a baseball bat. The show prepared you people years before it actually happened, but still everybody lost their minds. I am watching the series since 2012 and 7x01 was the best episode of the whole series to me. It was brutal and shocking, something that TWD has always wanted to be, but has rarely ever been. But I have to admit that the series got worse and worse after that, especially the second half of season 7 + whole season 8 was forgettable trash.
@zzz7zzz95 жыл бұрын
wow. glenn's death was a main part of the story/comics. it was literally just another scene in the storyline, always meant to happen. anyone who didn't know he was dying was pretty clueless. and the show is a zombie apocalypse, pretty silly to get too invested in any one character, especially to the point that you will stop watching if they die. odds are extremely high that pretty much every character created is going to die. it's a zombie apocalypse, not the godfather. it's purely mindless entertainment that you shut your brain off to while watching.

Stephen Murphy Negan’s character is actually a good character, the problem is is with the writers, they’re writing the story in a way that doesn’t make sense and Scott pimple is being a complete pimple by making us want the arc to end already. Too much filler! Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great Negan and a biker jacket in the summer is gay? People wear leather jackets at any point of the year. If you have a problem with people wearing clothing that’s weird complain about the people who wear torn up jeans in the winter time, that’s worse than a man wearing a biker jacket in the summer.

Stephen Murphy But I’m not being Politically Correct, if I was I’ll make fun of the character and say he’s bad because he’s white. Plus, he’s not supposed to be menacing. These are normal people trying to maintain society. I actually do agree with you on “too many unnecessary plotlines that go nowhere”

Frankly, Negan is one of my favourite characters, and favourite villains next to The Governor, and it sucks that the show began to decline when he came in. He brings life to the episodes he's in. I always felt on edge whenever he was on screen. Jeffery Dean Morgan is an incredibly talented actor, but the writers did the character a little dirty later on in the series which is what lost me.
