This is one of those songs that shows what a great singer Anette is. Just beautiful! She really shines on the ballads like this and Meadows of Heaven, or the quieter songs written specifically for her voice like Slow Love Slow or Turn Loose the Mermaids.

Thanks Folks, one of my favourite Anette songs... the lyrics are sad and beautiful, the music fits perfectly and Anette's voice is superb. If anyone tells you she can't sing, you now know why the band chose her as a break from their previous sound. Cf: Slow Love Slow from Montreux Jazz Festival 2012 and Meadows of heaven from the album, just as sarters

The band (meaning - Tuomas) chose her just to sound as different from Tarja as possible. For the same reason Floor belts most of the old songs which Tarja sang in head voice, as well as most of the new ones, written specifically for her. If Tuomas' inner child finally comes to peace with what happened 17 years ago, he might let her use her gorgeous classical voice a little bit more on the next album, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Anette is not "bad," but pretty limited in what she can do. Her voice is perfect for this kind of songs though. The lyrics really remind me of "Eccentric." Same topic.

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 I don’t think Floor minds it too much. I believe she has said she doesn’t like singing opera very much. I could be wrong though.

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Apparently they all agreed that from hundreds of auditions, Anette was the right choice. Not just a Tuomas decision.

@@NickBR57 Yeah, I doubt it was Tuomas alone. I'd argue they basically missed the trees for the forest, IE that they erred badly in going too far from their previous singer which then meant that she really couldn't do many of the older songs and there's a pretty HARD rule that when you're touring at least 50% of the songs needs to be "old crowd favorites" (and the percentage should be even higher if not directly supporting a record) which she simply couldn't deliver through no fault of her own. I can understand WHY the band made the choices while thinking they were wrong. This then turned into the big of "can't perform live" myth - I'll admit she's often *weaker* live but this is partually due to the lack of good live recordings from the period. Personally I tend to prefer the vocals of Tarja & Floor there's a number of songs which I prefer Anette and there's some really nice post-Nightwish Anette recordings. Basically, I think the band erred in going TOO FAR from their previous singer, BUT at the same time I can understand the reasons why the did it. Floor had a number of advantages over Anette's situation when she came in: She could sing "near" to both of the previous singers (vocal cameleon!), Anette wasn't "beloved" the way Tarja was and enoug time had passed since Tarja to reduce disgruntled comparisons with her - anyone who stepped in directly after her would get attacked by someone! We know the band briefly considered Floor after "firing" Tarja but decided they couldn't "attack" After Forever (which they had toured with) that way. And if they had and she had accepted it might well not have worked out, whoever stepped in directly after Tarja would always inheret a ****-load of animosity.

@@nicholew350 You're not wrong. She said something along these lines (years ago): "The real classical way of singing opera is not my personal favourite. The male vocals are OK but the female ones can sound very unnatural to me. I like the classical sound if it's a bit lighter." That's exactly my take on it as well. Not a fan of female opera singing. What I meant by "classical" is the musical theater type singing, brighter and more forward-placed - the way she sings GLS, to give you an example. Whether she minds or not, is hard to tell. She often says how much she enjoys being with Nightwish and how genius a composer Tuomas is. A bit TOO often, if you ask me.

For me one of the best nightwish songs and rarely reacted to . Tarja Anette and Floor are all fantastic and give us three different nightwishes . Tuomas knows how to write for his singers and all the master musicians in the band through time . Great reaction .

I absolutely love this song and I think it is uniquely suited to Annette. She gets a lot of hate but can actually sing the right type of songs. I prefer her in studio.

For me the best Anette song. Not only because of Eva being the name of my granddaughter 😄 Anette sounding so good in this song (and actually in both her studio albums) leaves me puzzled as to why she sounds so different in the live performances with Nightwish. This one was a beautiful one, thanks guys.

If you haven't done Nightwish - Over the hills and far away, (Gary Moore cover) I would really enjoy if you reacted to that. There are two versions. Live from The end of an Era (with Tarja) or a live version with Floor with a lot of cool photos mixed with live. Both are amazing.

Anette's voice and style fits here perfectly. Tarja couldn't have done it that way. You can guess where Tuomas wanted to go. But Nightwish is more than pop songs and that's where it failed.

@@nicholew350 Not really. Anette thinks it's good to give her voice a jazzy tone. But that doesn't fit Tuoma's music at all. That leads to the live catastrophe.
