Phoenix was founded by reusing and upgrading the original canals of the hohokam. The early settlers had to clear brush and flatten the mounds that were left behind to make irrigated fields. The settlers knew the mounds were hohokam sites but had to be removed for agriculture. Today, developers are in the same position.

"Europeans would NEVER do that to their ancestors." They can and have, many times. Hell, some parts of Europe have grave robbing as a major source of black market goods. Also, MUCH of modern Europe is built on ruins (yes, including building over burial grounds) History shows when times are hard or when people have enough to gain, people of most cultures and society will go grave robbing and/or otherwise defile the tombs of their ancestors. China, Egypt, and Eastern Europe are all places that are or have been notorious for it in the past.

In Scandinavia, that’s Norway and Sweden and Denmark. If it’s not in a major city, you’re absolutely right. However, I’m challenged to believe that that this was a renovation in the center of Stockholm , , Copenhagen or Oslo, they would stop the project. I’m sure what they would do a temporary stoppage & relocate the artifacts and remains to another location and then continue with the project. This is how Europeans have been doing business since recorded time.

What upsets me is in America most contractors tell there workers not to say anything just keep digging. Most parts of the world naturally want to preserve there ancient history. Not us we are like screw it keep business flowing. It bothers me because America's history is a big mystery when it comes to history before the native Americans. 1st of all how does she know it's the remains of her ancestors. Before the Indians arrived on this continent other people were already living here.

@@ruthcarter946 The American Indian migrated across the bearing straits into Alaska from Asia they made their way down the West Coast all the way into Central America and South America. These are all verified from archeological digs. Older remains have been discovered in sections near California they have been determined to be from the islands of the Pacific they predate the Asian migration.

@@9davidlong Wrong. I have. So where did you receive your master's in archeology? They are ALL Native Americans, regardless of how they migrated to the Americas, including South America. They also go by the term, indigenous people.

This may be part of why Phoenix hasn't really got a culture. It keeps getting covered back up and ignored. What a waste. There are so many people here who are deeply interested in touring these sites and seeing the stories of these cultures richly expanded and as a current, living part of this region. Instead, we have blank urban landscapes with spots of investment, heat, high costs of living, and not much else. Sad!

let this local 'activist' buy the property, then they can let it set untouched. but no they want someone else to pay like always. You cant stop people from living so this person can pat themselves on the back for what a good person they are for telling others what they can and can't do. can I tell them what they can and can't do with their property.

It's on Van Buren. Honestly, I'd be more afraid of the schizophrenic tweakers and gangs rampant there than I would of any angry spirit in my home.
