@theacme10003 жыл бұрын
Watching this confirms Lutron Caseta is NOT the way to go. Z-wave switches (like the Homeseer) with multi-tap scene control allow much more versatility. You can set 12 scenes per switch and using the LEDs on the switch (7 on the dimmers) you can set status indicators or warning signals for what's happening in other parts of the house . I also prefer being able to install a companion switch with 3 or 4 way wired circuits instead of a battery operated remote. And, the companion switches offer all the same scene control and dimming capabilities of the master switch on that circuit. Oh, and at a lower cost. Yes, most of the z-wave switches require a neutral but most newer house have one in every box anyway. If they don't, go for the Inovelli z-wave switches with almost identical features as Homeseer. Ceiling fans, Homeseer has that covered if fan and light are wired separately. Inovelli has it covered if they are wired together. And, z-wave has a lot of different types of connectable devices which won't require an additional hub. My 2 cents!

You might want to start using WAGO wire nuts. They are much smaller, super easy to install, do not come apart and no need for electrical tape. They have a newer transparent version that is even smaller and super easy, even for a DIYer. Because of their smaller size, it is easier to tuck them into the outlet box. Have been around for years. Because of it's age, it had started to overheat, so putting it on a dimmer to control the heat has made it work like it was brand new again. Lava lamps are the one type of lighting I still consider using incandescent lights for because they require the heat to work. Thankfully, I'm only dealing with 40w, or 25w bulbs depending on the size of the lamp.

Say I didn't need to dim lights from all 3 locations but wanted them as part of my home automation and to be able to dim via voice or the one location. Could I just wire up the one Caseta 3 way switch and leave the other two standard rocker 3 way switches alone? I don't like batteries so the pico's have that drawback. I use them elsewhere in some cases.

Or are the switches not able to communicate to other devices like the pico remotes? This is assuming I don't want to always use an Alexa/Google routine to turn everything on. If not, is it possible to tell SmartThings to automatically turn on a generic smart plug if the relevant Caseta Smart Dimmer Switch is turned on?

The motion detector did not seem to work well. Did you use a different motion detector?

It works well, I just didn't do a great job in showing it off. You can adjust the time it turns on 1, 5, 10 or 15 minutes when it detects motion and the added option for sunset makes it a much more useful sensor.

Hi Brett, great content as always, do Lutron have these for the UK light switches? Got a hall way with 2 switches at either end, a dimmer switch for the living room, dimmer for the lights over the dinning table and a dimmer for the kitchen.

Can these lights be connected to an alarm on HomeKit? I have an elderly parent hard of hearing and would like to flash the light to wake them or gradual lighting to wake.

As they are compatible with HomeKit you would just need to create an Automation in the app the does this when at the same time as the alarm or you could use Siri shortcuts to do something similar.

Hey Tech, I eviewed your video and during your 3-way demonstration I believe you meant the RED wire should connect to the Load wire and the Black to the Hot/Line wire. Otherwise the switch would not work as noted on page 16-17 of Lutron Advanced installation PDF file and noted below from page 17 diagram. Switch may be installed in either location. Note: The red wire must be connected to the load and the black wire must be connected to Line/Hot. The product will not work if the wires are reversed. Good Luck PM
