Hi Jason, I'm in Vermont, and I wanted to tell you how happy I am to see you wearing good protection when you work with your wood. I wasn't so smart, and felled a tree many years ago, caught a widow-maker branch from the tree next to the felled tree, which fell on my head, gave me a broken nose and 17 stitches and a pretty good scar. I was lucky, as I almost lost my eye. It was completely my fault, as I wore no helmet. But for a guy making videos that lots of people watch, you're setting a good example to many people as to the proper way to do it. Thank you! I love your channel, by the way...

Jason here is an idea for the barn roof drainage. Get a 4-inch PVC pipe cut a slit down the entire length slide it over the edge of the roof line attach it so it does not come loose plug one end with a 4-inch cap for other end add an elbow and more pipe to a barrow to collect rainwater in the barrow this will be a help on water to your animals and stop the erosion to the ground at the buildings.

As others have said, love your channel. Been following for the past year or so and yours is the only one I must watch as soon as you I see a new video. I’ve been going back and watching your older ones as well (thanks KZbin “Al Go Rhythm”)! It actually led me to discover your battle with severe skin issues and testing out the carnivore diet. Will continue to pour through the old content as I’m super curious how things went and how you’re doing now as I’ve noticed you no longer mention it. Although not homesteaders, I am trying to provide a more self sufficient life for my family, and you guys are a huge inspiration. Seeing all you’ve overcome and learned in your homesteading journey is truly amazing. Much love and respect from Northern California.

For a time as a teen I lived on a “hobby farm” that a university professor botanist owned before he had to move to the city. We rented it and took it over maintaining the gardens, bees, cows, orchard, chickens and ducks. One of the very cool things he had that I swear one day I will have (maybe not but it’s not off the list lol) is what we called a sun pit. Basically it was an under ground green house. Just a few steps from the back door It was a simple A frame top with one side south facing. The owner made these simple panels of rigid foam insulation with a veneer (I’d use plastic now) panels glued to each side that could be easily popped on or off depending on temp and snow fall. He did have power and grow lights for the darker days but no heat. That thing stayed so warm all winter. A big old goldfish lived in a half barrel happily all winter until my sister’s cat ate it in the spring 🙄 Farm life lol. I wish I had all those old pictures I took with my instamatic camera of the bees swarming as I would trod down to the hives and fruit trees where they always swarmed in flip flops, chit off shorts and halter top while the guys would dress up in bee suits to get the swarm. No exaggeration to say I got inches from the swarms before the smokers every time with zero stings . No no one really ever believed me but there’s this bee lady on IG that I can now tell people to go to for proof that honey bees are incredibly docile. Just a couple years ago we had a feral swarm in a wine barrel. The issue was that we kept getting pinged. A simple turn of the opening solved it and they moved on. My hubby videoed my turning it while he freaked out hiding in the house 😂😂 Sitting by a hive is magical. Enjoy!!!

Jason I have enjoyed watching your year in review video. It has reminded me of so many things you have accomplished that I forgot about. The three of you have done a wonderful job creating an awesome homestead. The mini truck and the water catchment system have been the best improvements to your land and now the high tunnel. I can’t wait to see how you organize it! Good luck to you in the new year I’m pulling for your family to accomplish big strides to your property! Happy new year!😊 oh I also loved how excited Lorraine got when you made shelves for all of her hard work of canning! I also keep coming back to watch your videos because of your personality, you can be such a good ball, but that is so entertaining! You’ve said in some of your videos that you don’t like recording the same old stuff, but that’s what I come back for!

Loving the long format Year in Review Jason, thanks for taking the time to put it together! Have you thought at all about getting the forestry mulcher in again to create lines for running paddocs for pigs and feeder pigs in the forest? Seems like a quick and productive way of having those paths put in where you can run some quality hotwire to keep the pigs contained without worrying about grounding out. Getting it done in the winter too would set you up for having paddocks for pigs in the spring and summer to keep that rampant growth under control, pigs well fed and shaded, and to help slowly pasture out that forest more and make it into productive land. Seems like a very win win situation.
