That’s so sad that people believe deaf people are useless in food service. I have a friend that has been going deaf since childhood. She’s only partially deaf but she’s deaf enough wear she cant tell you are speaking to her unless you are facing her She was denied disability and tried to work when her kids were old enough but even McDonald’s didn’t want to hire her. It took her a very very long time for her to get hired someplace.

@@Its_me_Stolas hearing aids are only good for those has minimal to moderate hearing loss. There is another option, cochlear implant, but they cost a lot (like a brand new car of the year) for just one side to be done. You want to have both sides to get full hearing effect as well but you're always going to be unable to hear everything since the CI cannot just get all the ranges of the sounds easily. Hell, I only have one side and I just barely managed to hear the same things on the low section of regular hearing. It takes decades to hear fully as well too since your brain need to adjust.

They are most likely planning that op would be his brothers caretaker at some point and all of this is about that, manipulating his road of life that leads in that conclusion. Ima share my own story about a deaf employee and a Karen freak out I woke up and went to Dunkin’ Donuts to get some breakfast and a drink, I was in Line and Karen was infront of me. The employee was deaf who was working the register, so they had a notepad and pen for people to write their order. Karen being Karen ignored the notepad and started shouting at them and then the classic line came up “Let me speak to your MANAGER”. Then the employee wrote on the pad “Ma’am, I’m deaf” and Karen froze and then left right on the spot

As anyone who's planned a wedding can tell you, the guest list can be a nightmare. There are whole chains of relationships on both sides and you have to make cuts somewhere. Also who's paying for the wedding enters into it. For example, every wedding in my family includes an old neighbor from when they lived in Brooklyn. I was born after my family moved, but my mother still expected the neighbor to be invited. After having done it, unless it's a sibling or my children I'm of the mind that I'm never going to be bothered if someone doesn't invite me to their wedding. Just because mutual friends were invited, it doesn't necessarily mean much. For example, some could also be family friends.

I'm autistic, and when that third story started I honestly wasn't sure what to expect- I just want to lead this out saying that the brother's behavior as well as the parents' is unacceptable and for the most part I stand with the OP and believe that he should cut all ties and be done with it, but I want to provide some information/observation that I feel might be relevant to the story. I have to note that the brother stopped following the gf into the bathroom once he realized that the reason the door is locked is because of him (if I'm to understand this correctly). I feel like this is a good example of an autistic person not being able to initially understand boundaries that aren't stated obviously but being able to follow them once they're established. Without question a lot of this stims from the parents not raising the brother right, teaching him proper respect and treatment of others would help with this, it goes without question that they're slacking and when OP talked to them about it they should've done significantly more. From what I've seen, more often than not autistic people are discriminated against and over oppressed for being the way they are but in this case it seems the severe opposite is true and the parents try too hard to conform to the way the brother is without teaching him what he needs to know, in this case it has bad results. I say none of this to excuse the brother or his behavior. In general though I can't help but feel uneasy about the fact that OP mentioned that him and his brother have similar symptoms, I've been in a similar spot of being compared to others for the sake of behavioral expectation and to be blunt that kind of comparison has had devastating effects. Society's expectations are harder for those of us who're autistic and it works out better for some than for others, and very rarely does "better" have much meaning outside of relation to the standards set by NTs. The presentation of symptoms being similar in the two of them doesn't really mean anything to be honest considering how different they turned out unless that difference is a result of a completely separate factor, in which case that factor is as relevant as the similarities. To be fair though OP doesn't state any level of expectation from him so it'd be unfair to assume that. That could've been specified for any number of reasons including just random habitual clarification (I do that quite often, see this entire comment). All of this being said, I just wanted to randomly bring this all up since it's just stuff I happened to know/notice, I stand with pretty much everyone else in that the behavior is unacceptable for obvious reasons and that OP should probably cut ties with that part of his family.

As someone who is almost always watching youtube videos, I can tell you, that chick is just entirely self centered. And in that situation, the best course of action would be a serious conversation about the issue. And if it can't be resolved like that, follow up with marriage counseling. Ultimately, if it remains an issue, the relationship may need to end. It's an unfortunate truth, but sometimes, people need to be thrown out on their butts in order for it to sink in that their mentality and actions are wrong.

I feel terrible for the brother since it really seems like he was never taught any better.

story 1: wasn't she taught by her parents? when I was a small kid, before I even learned to read, I saw a man with crutches from the window of our house and laughed at him, my father saw me and immediately scolded me. He told me that It's not his choice to walk with crutches and asked me what would I do if I was in his place

Story 2: Just listening to the first part of the story, I could tell the OP was a woman as guys wouldn't care if they weren't invited to a co-worker's party. Just be friendly with everyone and don't worry about what everyone else thinks about ya. Story 3: It really sounds like the brother finally got to the parents, manipulating their empathy towards him, to get revenge on the OP. Story 4: Tik Tok is actually designed to become addicted, lowering your attention span, and ruining your mental state. There is a reason why countries are actually starting to ban Tik Tok. It is a genuine assault from China to weaken generations of their opponents. The only thing that can even help her is to completely remove it from her. Be honest, not harsh, state plainly, and bring lots of evidence, both scientific facts as well as situational evidence of how it is affecting her. Story 5: I'm guessing another woman. You said it yourself, ya not owed anything. Ya need to get over yourself. There are lots of reasons for no invite and in the end, it was their wedding. If any friend of mine didn't invite me, it really wouldn't affect me much at all.

Sexist much? Men can feel the same emotions too. Story 2 yeah chances are that the op is a female because its highly unlikely a wife would worry about a man taking her husband but still there a chance that it could be a guy. But for the 5th story it could be a female or male.

Wow major sexist right here. That's absolutely a disgusting mindset to have, men are just as capable of having emotions. Men are humans too, jesus christ.

I can kinda relate to the third story not for the second half but the parts where the parents excuses were “he’s autistic” or something like that. During my freshman year in high school there was the autistic boy in my grade who would sometimes hang out with us. But over time he got really creepy, he would take pictures of me and my friends (who were all girls) and try to touch us a lot. (He knew that half of us girls had boyfriends too including me) we have reported it to the administrators a lot but they all just say that he’s autistic he doesn’t know any better. We just left it alone and tried our best to keep distance from him which didn’t work for awhile till he just stopped hanging out with us my sophomore year. To this day he still does the same thing to other girls but the school won’t do anything about it

Third story: Being autistic is not an excuse for the brother's behavior. Due to our social difficulties, we know, probably better than most neurotypicals, what behaviors are appropriate for each different situation

I really dislike how there's this culture split between those who are deaf and those who are not. Sure, there can be a language barrier when trying to communicate but there's a lot of things you can do where you don't need to talk with the average customer and don't need to hear anything at all. For something like cleaning or preperation you could maybe even make the argument that a deaf person would do a better job because they're more hyperaware of the things they see. That lady was just a two year old that wanted attention, and a deaf person couldn't give her the attention her toddler self wanted.

I don't really understand the no wedding invite heart breaking thingy. Wedding in my country is usually multiple events with 2-3 days long for each and ussually take a whole week just for one wedding. It can be tiring for somebody plus you have to give them moneys as a gift ( not forced but it will look awkward and impolite to not and usually get judge by it). So there are people who actually dont want to be invited. There are like hell lot of funny videos, shorts about too many wedding draining their whole month salary

Story 3: Okay....both brothers have been diagnosed as being autistic, yet the OP managed to act like a normal human being, started working at age 17, and has been successful at being functional. But the "golden child" at age 32 was allowed to just lounge around their parents' house with no expectations because they used HIS mental disorder as an excuse when OP strived despite that. And when OP and girlfriend were moved into his parents' house, they did nothing to curve his brother's creepy behavior, only to somehow thinking that the girlfriend needed to be kicked of the house. The OP's parentscwent the extra mile on how much they preferred his lazy brother when they changed the locks after falsely reassuring that the OP has a place to come back to, and berated him for voicing his concerns about his brother being a peeping Tom to his girlfriend whom they made homeless because she rightfully didn't comfortable around his brother, as if they personally took offensive to it. At the very least this story didn't end up the girlfriend pairing up with the bad privileged brother for a change.
