Yes the heads of the screws are ground so they are smooth. The handle thickness is pretty even although they are done by hand and there is bound to be some variation.

Yes 440C works well in hard use conditions. If you look at the forums and comments on Entrek USA Knives you will not find any bad comments on the steel in my knives and lots of them saying how great they are. The secret (not really a secret) is that they are properly heat treated including subzero stabilizing, makes all the difference.

I get mine from professional plastics. The local store actually keeps it in stock just for me. The company is nation wide. The people that make the phenolic that I use is Accurate Plastics in Yonkers, New York. The color is very consistant sheet to sheet. I hope this is helpful. Ray

@molle232 The first knife I made was made from a car spring and was still bent because I didn't know how to heat treat. I used some maple from a used pallet for the handle. It looked pretty bad but the next one was better. Don't give up before you start. It just takes time.

Hey, really nice work man!! You have great skills :) I like your knives but im not sure with 440steel. All my field knives are made from carbon steel (1095). Do you recommend me YOUR 440 steel for hard / field use? Thanks, Vratislav

I use 40 grit to shape the handles and on the flex shaft sander bands I use course (50 grit)

Nice , was that 120 grit ???? On the belt sander for the handle
@ChrisBrown-qh7dp11 жыл бұрын
Hey Mr. Ennis, quick question, when you shape the handles does the head of the screws gets grinded? And are the handles evenly shaped? Like one side is thicker than the other. Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Its very helpful and informative. I have a couple questions if you dont mind. What is the name and size of those screws you used for the scales. Are they like allen-head corby's? Where did you find those at? Also where are you sourcing such humongous sheets of micarta? I thought my 6"x12" was big lol. Thanks again sir.
@entrekknives7 жыл бұрын
The screws are just allen-head cap screws size 8x32x1/4" We screw them right into the handle. You can get them from Fastenal or lots of other places. I get my micarta from Professional Plastics they order it from Accurate Plastics in Yonkers NY. Costs about $300.00 for a 4' X 4' sheet.

you can spend about 10$ and replace the capacitor on the motor on your drill press and it will start by itself

I have a local plastics company order it in for me. The local company is Professional Plastics they are nation wide company. They order from Accurate plastics in Yonkers NY. I use only the material from there because that way I get uniform color.

Your drill press motor has to be hand started. It needs a new capacitor. Easy fix.

Yes, yes it is, but I once cut out a 4ft broad sword with a hacksaw. After that not much seems to hard. Besides I cheat. I have great tools, and lots of experience. Micarta? No worries Mate!!!

Amazing videos but... um.... if you go to 10:48, the handle is really messed up. You ground off about 60% more on one side than the other. Wish I could post a photo of it but using the tang as a center point you can clearly see its WAY off. Is this normal or am I on glue? Take a peak before all you haters start making comments.
@entrekknives9 жыл бұрын
+Bushcraft - Alberta I just saw this post. I'm pretty sure it's the glue. I couldn't see what you were seeing other than as the handle is turned the light makes it look like it's off. I actually sold that knife at the next show after I made it. It was OK.
@Initechsystems9 жыл бұрын
+entrekknives ah! Yeah, watched it again and it really looks off! Must be the light for sure.

@entrekknives9 жыл бұрын
Sheaths usually take between 10 and 15 eyelets and I usually do knives in batches of a dozen so you see where that goes. But 60000 does last a while.
