GREAT VIDEO I USED TO BE IN THE BELT BUSINESS IN THE UK A SUGGESTION FOR YOU IS PUT A BUCKET OF WATER UNDER THE CONTACT WHEEL THIS REDUCES SPARK DUST ON THE FLOOR, AND MAKE YOUR BELT A WET ONE , YOU ONLY NEED A SPONGE NEAR THE BACK OF THE BELT WITH A SMALL SUPPLY OF WATER ON IT THE BELT LOOKS DRY BUT IS IN FACT DAMP THIS HELPS A LOT WHEN GRINDING KNIFE BLADES

FANTASTIC, I hope if you have time you might do a video on buffing and finishing the blade. For example putting that mirror finish on the blade etc. I haven't seen any of that in here, please share more with us.....Thnaks

I have that same Wilton square wheel grinder. How do I get the hollow grind attachment? I need a jig to help keep my grind at the ricaso (Spelling ?) even on both sides. Do you sell that jig or tell me where to get one. ThanksGordon

I really enjoyed watching you make the fixed blade damascus / mammoth tooth handle knife. I use lots of klingspore yellow belts for finishing handles they would work awesome for tooth. They are a very low priced belt but have a nice stretch to them for working in the slack belt mode. Its one of about 10 different types of belts I use. I get them from jantz but tracey mickley has them too for a great price. Try them out youll like um . kellyw

Nice grinding machines. But here in Finland smith uses hammer and anvil to make blades. Then final sharpening is done with wet grinding wheel.

@MrRavishraven That one is old school... I don't think you can buy them any more? You can find similar models in any knifemaking supply catologue though... Try "Jantz Supply" or "Texas Knifemaking Supply". Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the comment man! As for your question, I don't change the grits on that machine. I only use a 36 grit belt to hog out the material. All finish work afterwards is done by hand on my bader III. I would try just making some marks on the jig assembly to get it back in the same position. Hope this helps ya out!

@okkrom Tapering the tang is a basic function of balance. I takes weight off the handle, and can give a large knife a better feel. It also offers some aesthetic appeal. Good luck on your knife project! Let me know if you have any more questions!

What type machine are you using here? I know it is basically a belt grinder, but it looks like a special type made just for knife work. The jig you are using is the bomb too, what is it, did you make the jig?
@cdx8312 жыл бұрын
I'd leave the hollow grind as it is at around 3:30, maybe extend it about a quarter inch up to the spine. The blade appears to be tougher and more shockresistant that way compared to the flat grind you're showing. What's your opinion on that?
@williamturner688211 жыл бұрын
I was told by the man that designed that jig that it will work flat grinding. I haven't tried it though. \
@COBladesmith8013 жыл бұрын
@ARCustomKnives You know I never thought of using the platen, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just want to hog that material out, so I start with a hollow grind.
