I think it depends on your definition of "greed." Ren has said (and I will be paraphrasing here) that the problem is not wanting to make or have money, the problem is when money becomes more important than people. For me, that's the definition of greed, and it doesn't sound to me like you're greedy 🙂. Looking forward to part 3, it's an absolute masterpiece!

that sounds like economic apologetics
@yilomina20478 ай бұрын
@@stegemme Interesting - to my (admittedly limited) knowledge, that's a catholic concept, but from what Ren has had to say in the past, he's agnostic. He does emphasize the importance of taking care of the hive, the collective good, and having respect for other humans no matter what our differences might be. Regarding money, I know Ren has talked about struggling with his own financial success. MG3 provides an excellent example of prioritizing money over people, which I think is what we're being cautioned against in this trilogy.
@stegemme8 ай бұрын
@@yilomina2047 I was using the term apologetics as a metaphor which seems to be a trend these days. But I assume you're not quite in the full on capitalist camp. Judging by Ren's stated propositions I would say he thinks the problem is systemic. That's why I employed the metaphor as many people seem to think the current system should be defended.
@yilomina20478 ай бұрын
@@stegemme Ooohhhh ... thanks, I appreciate that clarification. Yeah, Ren has said (and I definitely agree) that there are some major problems with capitalism. But he's also said that he's not anti-capitalist. In my opinion, the problem is that capitalism has become both our economic and our moral system. That's painting with a broad brush, there are certainly many exceptions, but at least in Dallas, TX ... money covers up a lot of sins!

One point some people miss about Ren is his knowledge of history and society. For example, look up the history of the Shell oil company and check out what they sold before oil.

Ren and Knox Hill just had a new interview yesterday. Ren goes over what he plans for the future as far as moving to the US, his need to stay fairly close to the Calgary treatment center and his plans for the future and the problems he is running into. Great interview, Ren is so intelligent and pleasant to listen to. Knox is a great interviewer. Take a peek, Ren is a sweetheart and an easy listen. I agree with the other comments, great thoughts and can't wait for MG3.

Thank you for your honesty. The way Ren's output sparks self-reflection is one aspect of why Ren reaction videos are so fascinating to watch. His authenticity seems to make people peel away their masks and show their true face to the world. Seems to work a bit like how one act of kindness can trigger another. Looking forward to your MG3 reaction.

Ren gave us a little history lesson in part one and here’s the economics class. It takes a very clever and flexible mind to break down a complex topic in a way that everyone can understand it. To then do it using a well known nursery rhyme? And in the form of rap? Ren is a genius.

I always respect honesty, and of course _I_ don’t think any less of you for calling yourself out; on the contrary - side hustles are almost mandatory when you’re a public school teacher (which is pretty much the most laudable calling ever, precisely because people go into it knowing it’s underpaid). You gotta do what you gotta do, and I wouldn’t even call that greed, man - you’re just trying to survive. Really looking forward to your reaction to MG 3 now ✌🍑❤

I appreciate the honesty of what you said about yourself. The difference is you realized that passion was a step above the money/greed for you. We're all hypocrites, even Ren. We all want and need money. It's emotional security. Part 3 is different musically, but still ties in to the others. Can't wait for your reaction. Get your popcorn ready. 💰💵 💰💰

Ren has the ability to get people to look at themselves as characters as part of his story or tales. Pretty good at it to ! I feel he is doing just what he feels is the right and good thing to do, maybe self-realization. Do not think wanting enough for comfort is bad, But wanting it all at any cost should be unacceptable. With the money game it should not be the min for ability to survive but the maximum you could possible need !! You will like 3 , it breaks the game down to a exaggerated person !! ANd not the same beats !! Nice reaction, Not so much time before 3 huh ?? 😁😁😆

Another great reaction brother. And thank you for your honesty. Ren does tend to make us look at ourselves and reflect, And it's great when you have the humility to reflect your honest thoughts on your channel to the world.. MG3 is gonna blow your mind! Ren does keep some of the same musical elements Although they are kind of subtle and hard to find unless you really look for them, Almost like easter eggs, Ren loves easter eggs and call backs. The one who dies with the most happy memories wins I've heard that in order to be happy, you have to do what you love. If you do what you love, it should make you rich. Rich may not mean wealthy, but you will be happy and that brings me back to, "The one who dies with the most happy memories wins"
@mistyhaney55658 ай бұрын
I don't think Ren is trying to make anyone feel bad, just draw attention to the fact that most of us are more alike than we realize, and those who really embrace the money game don't care about humanity and are quite willing to encourage divisiveness that distracts from the bigger picture. If you're interested in reading someone who is willing to call out the vast majority of us, I can recommend the philosopher Peter Singer, specifically his drowning child thought experiment. It will make you feel kind of bad, or it made me feel bad, but as far as I can discover he actually tries to adhere to the argument he puts forth. I've spent my adult life caring for children that, not only their families, but our society views as disposable, and he made me realize I wasn't doing all I could to make a difference.

There's nothing wrong with making money for yourself. As long as you don't harm anyone with it. We all have to take care of ourselves, right! Those who make a lot of money off the backs of others are at fault here. Don't be too hard on yourself. Everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie to survive. No one will stand up for us when we run out of money. Without money, life becomes very difficult... Good and honest reaction....looking forward to see you do MG3...🤗

Hello, Canada has the same problems as well.... unfortunately, the infection spreads. Panic and hysteria could be caused by any powers that take part in manipulation, which could include corporate interests, the ultra-wealthy, corrupt government or other entities trying to weaken systems and regulations for monetary benefit/power. We're all part of the money game, but we're also mercilessly influenced by marketing, misinformation/disinformation and other forms of manipulation. It's very hard to resist our natural impulses, and continuously stay aware to not get swayed by these things. Great reaction, btw 🙂(I've edited this comment about 5 times now, lol).... mad respect for teachers.... a generous, and definitely NOT greedy profession, if there ever was. We all gotta eat!!

The human urge for more is some thing that Ren goes into in his video Eden. It’s one of those that starts kind of random, but watch till the end and it all makes sense. He specifically talks about how humans have this urge to push the envelope, to keep doing more, to go further and further. And this can be helpful when it is intentionally focused on things that don’t prey on individuals as fodder for our greed. We can do great things, we often simply just choose not to. And when it comes to greed, for some of us who were raised in household that were struggling financially we get a mindset of scarcity. Because for us it has always been a struggle to survive. As supposed to people raised in either well off or frankly financially predatory homes, who don’t necessarily have that survival mechanism tied to it as much as greed and money being a form of control. A form of control that requires being disassociated from seeing the people you’re preying on as humans.

I think only if we become self aware and honest we can understand ourselves and actually decide who we really want to be and how we want to show up in the world.... first step is self love, no matter what... then self care; what nourishes and fulfills me so that I can consciously live instead of being lived and pushed around? Ren is really fantastic in provoking deep insights.

Money versus the joy of creativity is always going to be an issue, I suppose. Being in the moment and creating something that you feel passionate about is important for our wellbeing; you are investing time and energy into promoting your health and happiness. Putting together something that sells is usually something completely different, especially if you don’t love what you are creating. Most of us equate making money with success, societal appreciation or approval, and doing something purely for the love of it seems like an indulgence, especially when you have to pay the bills. 😢

I don't think Ren wants to make anyone feel bad, or if he does I don't think the people he wants to feel bad are going to be listening to him. Those engaged in the all encompassing greed he's really calling out aren't interested in what other people think. That's not to say that he's not pointing out that we all have ways of improving how we relate to the rest of humanity and what we choose to prioritize.

Oh my dude- you’re not greedy. No one who does public education because they love it is a greedy person. Desire for “the good life” in of itself is not a bad thing. Greed is a type of gluttony- consumption for the sake of consumption, where there’s never enough and you don’t care who or what you harm. The insight of money game is understanding that the system we are caught in is only as powerful as our belief that we have no other choice but to participate in it. But, like all games, we can choose to just stop playing and find a different solution for trading goods and providing for one another

I'm sure you are not greedy. If you were you would have chosen a career that makes the most money in the first place. Instead, you chose a career that gives a lot of yourself, and you don't get much in return except the pride you feel about getting through to kids and teaching them something and doing the best you can. I don't think it's greed trying to make money on the side to put in savings or a trip. It's hard to save for retirement and for unexpected expenses. I think a person is greedy when they have all the money and still want more.

I think you're being too hard on yourself! You are obviously self aware and it doesn't seem to me that you're looking to exploit people for huge financial gain! Take a look at the recent Knox Hill interview with Ren, he touches on how he reconciles the financial success he is now experiencing with his artistic endeavours. Something I like about Ren is how he consistently holds the mirror up to himself and encourages the same in ourselves. He doesn't just go for the easy finger pointing of blame as his message. Now you've reacted to this I recommend watching the live version which is just the economics 10 steps, but it's beautifully filmed and performed and often gets overlooked. Cheers.
