A full analysis on the music video for Pt. 1: The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival. Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head sack to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death. Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier attitude and burns himself to death instead. As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well.

I’ve learned more from Ren than I did from 11 years at school. All they taught me in maths for the last 3 years was X-Y+A=shlte and none of that has ever cropped up in my life in the 30 years since I left school. This is the kinda stuff they need to teach kids. Skip school and watch Rens back catalogue kids youll become a better Woman/Man for it.

The main purpose of the school system isn't to actually teach you anything, it's meant to shape you into a person that can "fit into society". School is literally all about conformity, so you can basically learn to be a robot and be productive to the machine of society.

❤❤❤ I hear a lot of people say MG1 isn't something you can ride around listening to- I do. Along with MG2, these are two of the most amazing songs. Then there's Crucify Your Culture, if you thought these would get you demonitized, CYC is the gritty, hard hitting cousin that comes in and wraps this right up. Guy is unreal. How many rappers talk about the economy, colonization, dissing money rather than bragging about how much they have or how much they plan to have. I think that's what has made me fall so insanely in love with this musician, he speaks the deepest truths while also being adamant that we must see that we too are part of the problem. Then the speech he gave during the live performance of the Trilogy, telling us to try to see how others have come to see the way they do because we are all just a few actions from devils and saints, none of us perfect, none of us damned. Damn we need this voice in our world today SO MUCH!

The Shell name The origin of the Shell name can be traced back to the seashells that Marcus Samuel senior imported from the Far East during the late 19th Century. When his sons Marcus junior and Samuel were looking for a name for the kerosene that they were exporting to Asia, they chose Shell. As kerosene sales came to dominate the business’s turnover, the name was adopted for the new import-export organisation that was set up in 1897 - the Shell Transport and Trading company. The Shell name briefly took a back seat in 1907 when the company was merged with Royal Dutch to form, the Royal Dutch Shell Group, but the newly formed business quickly became known as Shell for short.

I thought the eyes were drawn because he wanted him/her/the establishment to see what damage was being done - but then he realises that he can't make them see and that actually he's as guilty. Also, he sets himself on fire, like a Buddhist monk, who hopes to awaken those who don’t recognize that they too are living in a burning house, and that they must find their own way to quench those flames. Heavy! But you're a poet so that's OK!! :) Anyway, I'm glad you have fallen into the Ren rabbit hole!
@Gearmeshkutt Жыл бұрын
I took the guy playing the guitar as "Them". Them can be who ever isn't you. Society gives them eyes, draws eyes on them, to see the world the way they are told. We are taught to fear Them and blame Them. Who the Them are isn't important. There only purpose is to be someone to hate, fear, or blame. Ren keeps urging us to look in the mirror. The person that really is to blame is the one staring us in the mirror. In the end, he realizes he is going to have to destroy himself, if things are ever going to get better. Set the money, the hate, the fear, the comfortable narratives to the side, etc. Once you are ready to change yourself, maybe we collectively will have a chance to turn this around.
