To many doors are hung too quickly, and then spend the rest of their life not closing properly. Speed comes with practice, I don't hang enough doors to be really good, but I'm good enough to be good when going slowly. So thats what I do.

thats how its done! very few things id have done differently in general, cutting off the sap wood on outdoors projects is a good idea. there are rubber gasket rollers that you can buy that will protect you fingers. again, i wouldnt use beech on an outdoor project, it will introduce mold sooner or later and make the cherry prone to taking it up as well lamello make plastic alternatives, as do festool for the domino as covered as the door is though, i dont see it becoming a problem in your lifetime great work

Excellent work, Mike. You're attention to detail is that of a true craftsman. I appreciate that even though the drawings in Sketchup showed a separated head jamb, you built it as a solid piece to provide more strength and rigidity to the jamb. That is the right way to do it. I like the way you did the glass retainers proud. It gives a unique and satisfying look to the moulding, and follows with the Arts & Crafts (or Craftsman) styling of the door.
@MikeFarrington16 күн бұрын
Thank you. I only use the drawings as an idea and a starting point. I am not great with drafting on a computer, so that was why it was not shown as 1 piece.

That is unbelievable! I am in such awe! You’re beyond being a YT carpenter. You & Norm have much in common! If I could inquire, you use a couple of squares in this project. One of a small, totally flat 90° square & what looks like a very small adjustable machinist square. I was able to detect made in USA on the small machinist square. I did spot what could be a3 square, and it may have been a rockler? The first one that I saw was the little flat 90° square. I just couldn’t catch any names. And that’s what I’m after what brand they are if you could be so kind so let me know I’d really appreciate it! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Can’t wait to see your projects next year.🎄💙

@MikeFarrington16 күн бұрын
I hate to say it, but there really isn't a perfect solution. The first and best thing is to have a roof over the door. This will keep the sun off and keep it dry. After that it's just a matter of picking what you like to apply. All film finishes, like what I used will fail as some point, oil finishes go on easier, and repair easier, but it will need to be done more often. This topic would be a video unto itself.
