I really like alloy / metal frames. I can't get around spending so much for a carbon frame and then live in the terror of cracking it. I'm not shy of running alpine trails with plenty of sharp pointy rocks. This summer my alloy frame got scratched pretty good and I'm fairly worried a carbon would have cracked and made me cry hard. For the scratches on alloy the solution is easy: by a ton of GMBN stickers and cover the scratches! Better than new! (Yes I've just got my stickers yesterday and will apply them ASAP).

incredibly tough choice. Suppose it comes down to where and how you intend to ride your bike. Just earlier this year I was in the same boat. For the same price, you will get better components. This review was not good! Four ads and little insight. At 2:04 Recon RL Silver, not Gold. Should specify. Deore rd - essentially the same as the XT model apart from the lack of bearings in the jockey wheels, and you should specify that it has the clutch. M200 brakes - no such thing. It's MT200, and then either MT201 or MT200 levers (difference is the MT200 are steel, which rust, MT201 doesn't). I believe these are in fact MT201 Hubs - should mention that these are thru-axle and boost. Quite a bit above entry-level. Finishing kit from Entity - this is Polygon's own brand. Should specify. Siskiu N9 - the D7 is also tapered headset. But the frame geometry of an Enduro bike is different! That's why they weigh the same. Also you should mention that the fork is 36mm and obviously much much stiffer and more robust than the 32mm Recon. Saying they are both 'big brand' is ridiculous. Rockshox makes some really low grade stuff. This one is very much 'entry-level'. The Fox is a higher grade, and a piggy-back shock more expensive than the basic lock-out model on the D7. The reason they weigh the same is that one is a heavy-grade enduro bike with relatively light components, whereas the other is lighter-duty bike with cheaper heavier components. Brakes - yes they are TRP but they are a higher grade than the Shimano MT200, in that they are 4-piston. You should also mention that the difference between 11-speed and 12-speed is the 10t cog rather than the 11t cog at the bottom. T8 yes it's heavier because it doesn't have the higher grade components of the N9 but it's more robust than the D7.

@@julianmcgregor7949 not really a review but basically Polygon have the Xtrada hardtail, 5 & 6 are the same frame, 5 is 2x10 XCM fork, 6 is 1x11 or 2x11 XCR, also clutch derailleur . I kinda like the 5 but the fork is best upgraded to something better like Epixon/Raidon/Recon RL. Xtrada 7 is 1x12 and thru axle frame, which is better but kinda overkill. Syncline is the carbon frame (same geometry) and not really worth it for most people as you really need a bunch of expensive components bro make carbon MTB worthwhile . Siskiu has the D5 which is kind of a basic spec with the bad XCM fork, qr axle, 2x9 drivetrain. D7 is ta frame, 1x11 and good enough suspension. It might be sold without dropper post in some countries. D6 isn't made any more for 2021. D series is full sus XC geometry. T series is full sus trail geometry so a bit more travel but T7 is largely the same components as D7, just more travel. Except you do get a 12 speed drive train and 4 piston rear brakes, which at the US price difference of $100 is a steal given the overall beefed up ness All these bikes are good if you pay a good price. Wrong price and not so much. But if your bike says Trek then people will be happy to pay more for the same or less. polygon not so much. T8 is basically the same as T7 with slightly better suspension, i.e. fox rhythm 34 up front, which is definitely better than the recon 32 rl but it's not a top of the line fork (you want fox float or RockShox charger). Also rear shock is better, but I'd kinda save the $500 and upgrade later (though the 32mm steel stanchions on the T7 definitely count as dated now) The N series (N8 N9) is just longer travel and better suspension generally but as noted in the video the N9 still is not the top of the range damper in the fork, so potentially you can do better even with a T7 and new suspension, but it depends on pricing again.. .

Like, for example, if you rode the N9 and a $5000-7000 bike blindfolded, what would be the key differences you'd spot right away? Or does it simply come down to more durable parts etc. instead of a drastically different ride experience?

I'm talking about the 2021 Siskiu T8 and the the T7. (Not shown here) I loved this video and would implore you to add Polygon to the title. There is a serious shortage of content on these bikes and they deserve the attention. Your views and likes are sure to go up! My T8 is on pre-order and a T7 is going in the cart on availability. No matter how expensive your bike is: if you know how to get over obstacles with as little effort as possible you'll have the same amount of fun. Without mastering how to do so a more expensive bike can sometimes be more forgiving, but components won't live as long in that case and are much more expensive. Unless you go for the limit in racing there really is no need to go for more expensive than needed as long as geometry, amount of suspension, brakes (and gear range) can cope with the terrain you want to cycle on.
@DrtSqrt3 жыл бұрын

I've gotten used to GBMN's meaning of an "affordable" bike, but saying that it's "only" an 11 speed triggered me. I can't imagine that a one gear difference will make a big change, especially on trails I would think you could barely tell the difference between a few teeth on different cassettes.
@davidmcglynn27654 жыл бұрын
To try find some reasoning, the 11 speed will have the old style spline freehub. The 12 speed will been the microspline. Having the 11 speed rather than 12 adds an extra complexity to upgrading in the future. There's also no reason why they would have gone with the 11 speed other than making room above it. 12 speed deore is available, and the choice of freehub design is an option when speccing the hub. It doesn't make a difference to the cost (at least at retail, perhaps for OEM it might be more expensive). If that's what they were going for though, they should have called it out as such. The majority of people interested in a budget bike are probably still riding 10 or less so really don't care if it's 11 or 12.

having recently upgraded my mtb drivetrain I believe Neil was getting at a larger sticking point than the number of cogs, gear ratios, and cadence. Its really hard to find 10 and 11 speed cassettes with a wide enough range to merit a one by system. you simply won't have an easy time finding a 50+ tooth cog to go on on bikes with less gears

I pre-ordered the 2021 D7 and got it smack bang on the release date, I love it for zipping around on the local trails, not as fast or as costly as my downhill bike, but it sure does the job.

Would you recommend it? Im really looking at the D7 as my first bike. Been using some of my buddies hardtails but want full sus. Is there anything else around that price range of the D7 thats worth it or even the D6?
@copyth57483 жыл бұрын
@@Mytro34 D6 is good with price and all and is pretty much just a lower spec D7, but I would really recommend spending that little bit extra with the D7 as it comes with better suspension brand and etc. But yeah at the end of the day its hard to find a better bike for price other than the D7. Would really recommend it.

My first full suspension bike was an entry level $1700 Haro that I rode for four years then I upgraded to a mid level $3000 Scott and the ride is night and day difference. These are American prices. I will not spend much more than that other than upgrading parts on the Scott since I love this bike that much. I think the mid level fits the bill for every type of riding that I do.

Polygon is probably the single best value brand on the market, closely rivalled by Marin, Norco and Merida. The Siskiu T7 and T8 in particular are amazing value; the T7 has absolutely everything you could possibly need on a full sus, while the T8 upgrades everything to all you could really ever need for not much more.

I am of the idea that if your budget is below a certain level you're better off getting a really nice hardtail vs a mediocre full suspension as the latter will have lower quality everything. In a full suspension bike with such high complexity, so many moving parts and the bike generally being able to go faster the extra abuse will wear it down more and you'll have more problems. Nothing wrong with living on a budget but for the same money if you buy something that is simpler even though it looks like you are getting less the overall qualify of everything will be higher. Call me crazy but the same goes for singlespeed. Especially in the lower to mid price levels singlespeeds are worth looking at as they will blow everything else away in their price range.

You guys and the rest of the mtb media should focus on entry level and mid level bikes. The industry has gone for shit pushing 5000+ dollar bikes that only a handfull of us can afford or rationalize to buy. I always buy mid range aluminum framed bikes and had no issues in performance or fun factor. Yes high end has its place but for 95% of us its overkill. But I guess when the manufacturers pay you guys and others big bucks to push the bling bling bikes. We have to look for smaller youtube channels or individual bike owners for reviews of the more reasonable priced offerings.

Yeah this video is a pretty much a commercial for the brand. The price of N9 is so high there’s no way it’s a Mid-range! I can get a Orbea Oiz H20 for that price and change leftover. Where is the Jamis Dakar A2 if they are reviewing entry level full suspension?
