Note: this video is formatted for Right Handers. Left handers may prefer to watch • Envelope (Double) Bord...
Do you find the slip stitch round usually recommended for starting an envelope border around an overlay mosaic crochet project awkward or time consuming? I know I do ...
I initially developed a method using front post sts, which was a definite improvement in my opinion (see my Easy Envelope Border video • Easy Envelope Border -... ), but it can be a little bulky for some finer projects.
And then, while laying awake in the middle of the night, I had a bit of a 'lightbulb' moment!
With just a simple adjustment to the way you work your edge stitches (adding a chain between the edge stitch and the design) you can quickly and easily pick up the stitches for your border without the need for a round of slip stitches, and without the extra bulk from front post sts!
But don't worry if you have already completed your project, I have also come up with a way to bypass the slip stitch round on a project crocheted in the traditional overlay mosaic crochet way.

You just cured the fear in me to make a double boarder!! Your method is neat and so easy to make. I always struggled to get the sides of the blankets correct . I also made a little sample like yours and practice the border! Thank you for a great tutorial 🥰🧶🌻

This is fab! I've used your quick start envelope border on 2 blankets and it is much easier than the slip stitch method, but I have sometimes struggled to find exactly where I should do the front post treble, but this makes it even simpler. Thank you so much! x

Thank you so much for this video. I have ripped out my border three times on my blanket not knowing what I'm doing. I now have a guideline to follow and you made it look so easy. Hopefully I'm done ripping out my border. Thanks again!

I had seen this video in the past, but didn't need it right then.... so I have spent the past 2 days looking for it, because I'm ready to begin a large mosaic project and I had this little vague memory of an easier way!! Thank goodness for some nice soul posting a FB link.

I am so glad I found your channel and that you had your "brain wave" regarding the enclosed border. I found the traditional way tedious and it really hurt my hands to try and do it. I also ended up with a headache. Your way is so much easier and better.

The beauty of an envelope border is that you don't go over the ends, or weave them in - they get encased in between the front and back borders xx

Brilliant! I'm going to see if I can adapt this to work on knitted fabric. The slip stitch step works well for knitted edges, but can be difficult to get the hook under the slip stitch loops - I guess the same way it is for crochet fabric. I really like how your way simplifies adding an envelope border.

I wish I had seen this earlier but my current blanket is the first right to left for years, I've been doing a lot of 'in the round' so no border was necessary. Needless to say my border is coming out looking like I've crocheted it with a knife and fork 😢. Next time I must remember the 2 extra chains

Can this envelope border be added to normal blankets? I’ve made one with tiny granny squares and have joined them together using the slip stitch method, so there are coloured ends that need to be hidden rather than woven into the back of white stitches.

This method only really works if your stitches are the same height and width, which overlay mosaic crochet scs in BLO generally are ... HOWEVER, I don't see any reason why you couldn't do something very similar around a blanket worked in the round, where you are only working into sts, and no actual row ends. You could work 1 border on the RS and another on the WS, just working your sts into the Front loops each time ... I bet it would look fabulous! It would probably still be quicker to weave all the ends in though xxx

@RosinaCrochets
@RosinaCrochets Жыл бұрын
You need to have a spare chain at each end of every row, including the starting chain. If you know of a way to add a chain when doing fsc that would be fine, but otherwise you will need to work your scs into the back bump of a length of chains xx

Hi Rosina, Happy Christmas, I have gone the enclosed border as you have detailed it, and it looks really nice. I do have a question though, if I were to adapt a pattern, would it be advisable to add 2 extra stitches, 1 at each end to skip so that it doesn’t affect the pattern? Thanks for your time 😁
@RosinaCrochets
@RosinaCrochets 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will need to add 2 extra chains to the starting chain of any pattern, so you can leave an unworked chain between the edge / border stitch and the actual design stitches at each end of every row xx

So how does this effect the pattern does it add an extra stitch or do you subtract 2 from the number of stitches
@RosinaCrochets
@RosinaCrochets Жыл бұрын
If you are following one of my older patterns, which has 2 edge/border stitches at each end of every row, you can replace the 'inner' edge st with a chain. But for most patterns (which generally have just 1 edge st) you will need to add 2 more chains at the beginning xx

Hi..so my beginning chain asks for 304....do I do 304 or 306? Thanks!
@RosinaCrochets
@RosinaCrochets 9 ай бұрын
Assuming your pattern goes straight from the edge/border st into the design, you will need to add 2 additional chains, so 306 to begin x

By adding the chain at both ends, does that mean one has to adjust the total starting chains of a pattern to accommodate?

if you are doing one of my older patterns, where there are 2 edge sts at each end of every row you can just replace the inner edge st with a chain; if your pattern only has 1 edge st you will need to add 2 additional starting chains to accommodate xx
