Double (Envelope) Border using Front Post Double Crochet-Mosaic Crochet Basics

This mosaic crochet tutorial pulls together my favorite techniques to create a double (envelope) border to hide all the ends of the rows when crocheting in the mosaic overlay method. I substitute Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) instead of using Slip Stitches in the first round. This technique is a game changer!

Wait to trim the tails until you are done with both sides. They are easier to hold back when they are longer.

I absolutely love mosaic crochet and have completed 6 full size and 2 baby blankets in the past year. Each time I have dreaded doing the slip stitch/envelope border. Recently I completed a blanket and still hadn't done the border and was super happy after finding your tutorial because this method really is a game changer. I also honestly think that the border seems more durable with this method than with the slip stitch method. So to get this correct. On the double crochet you start with the back. And then the second round goes in the other stitches like you would do in the regular pattern correct

Do you by chance have a tutorial on color changing. For example I am doing an American flag that I had done thru stitch fiddle. So I can go from the red stripes to the blue field and so on

On the fringe sides, will it work to do a simple dc instead of the for?

It absolutely works to do a regular DC. This method is just a version that helps avoid a tight initial slip stitch row. 😊 There are many ways to achieve a double border and I am always looking for better ones!💕

Hi Leigh! The fringe is encased between the 2 halves of the envelope border, and then the front and back parts of the border are joined together in the final round.
