@@user-xi3tn2tb4xeverything is a choice, and choice isn’t a matter of your balance sheet. Everyone has a budget. You pay your bills, pay for what sustains you, put money into savings for the first two things I mentioned, and with what’s left that’s when you help others by donating to charities, giving gifts, or treating you and your family to some luxuries. You don’t need a $1500 cell phone, fiber optic internet, the premium cable package, or buying the cheapest Rolex. Anyone who does that is projecting an image, they’re selfish and they envy people who have more than they do. Do you have any idea how many domestic abuse shelters would love a donation? The people who manage mutual aid funds wouldn’t say no to any kind of donation either. The UN needs plenty of help. Millions of kids around the world have malnutrition and in the US there are several TV networks dealing with food and cooking, not to mention food eating contests where the person who eats the most food the fastest wins a prize. That’s why ET doesn’t visit us, we’re selfish assholes!

Envy made the rent to go up. People move to cities with more opportunities, this situation creates more demand on housing, landlords drive the rent cost up, so, they can afford luxurious life. It is all what he talks about. Look at the companies that produce food - their management brings prices up just so they can have huge bonuses. That's envy, cause they see other competitors do the same.
@rwfrench66GenX5 күн бұрын
@@BederikStorm I believe your example isn’t fully considering the full picture or defining terms properly. First, you said people move to cities where there are more opportunities. If that premise is true and a given city is experiencing growth the commercial real estate industry would also grow. More apartment complexes would be built, large companies that own networks of apartment complexes would buy existing apartment complexes and renovate those complexes to make their apartments look nicer and have more amenities. Competition to get people to lease apartments and recover the cost of renovating or building the complex is creating all kinds of jobs in the local economy. You have construction obviously, construction materials sales, bank loans, insurance to cover the bank loans, utilities companies have to increase their capacities and run new infrastructure for electric, water and sewer, you need building permits, licenses, you always need accountants and auditors, advertising, sales, security, landscaping, and a lot more. All of those people work, get a paycheck, spend money at the local grocery store, clothes store, gas stations, gyms, hair salons, pharmacies and so on. Everyone is supporting everyone else, and all paychecks are paying taxes for Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, Tri-Care, VA Benefits and Prison Bureau health insurance, Social Security, NASA, and everything else in the government. If a landlord raised rent without doing any renovations or adding any amenities that would defined as greed not luxury, but you can always go to a different apartment complex, buy a house through HUD, or get a roommate.

I think he's not seeing the entire picture, because he still says people "feel abused" rather then say they "are abused". As a rich man he still feels the need to protect his feelings and avoid the uncomfortable truth that, as uninvolved as he seems to want to be, he may have contributed to that abuse in his career. A lot of rich men do this when they talk. It's uncomfortable to them. Envy is also not a one note problem as it is both it and greed that work in tandem. You might ask, "well, what's the point of saying that?". It's because greed itself is an active force, and it can be punished. Envy, wanting what someone else has, is a survival instinct that keeps people from committing suicide. A coping mechanism. By pushing attention from greed to envy, he makes himself blameless. He might be a "kind old man" in portrayal, but why would a kind old man construct an identity that is blameless? He's not a learned man, he's marketing himself and pretending he's above others, by portraying himself as moral. Mr. Munger, you are not enlightened. You are impure, and have hurt people. Take the blame for it. We know no one gets their money in this world without taking. All knowledge you can give is useless. What is solved by shifting the blame?

I feel 00000 envy. Never felt it don't know what it is. But I'm the most prime example of a man being hunted down because of envy. I always help people make sure they're okay. Try to avoid people I don't like and vice versa. But through out my life a lot of people were envious of the man I can become, the potential I carry. Even now after decimating me to ashes they're envious. One can leave people alone but doesn't mean people will leave you alone especially if they're envious of you. Indeed the world is driven by envy. Human hearts can't be tamed with love. The worse part is most people don't wanna be great, they just make sure others live like the peasants they are and pass their days the same way. They fail to fathom some people are incapable of living that mundane existence. Real politics is dead and envy killed it. Social media has big part in it. It has ruined the youth. Misled them. But most of these people way too blind to realize their envy is the only reason the Ummah the Muslim community is lagging behind. Plato had said if philosophers were kings or kings were philosophers the world would've been a good place. They're certainly those among us. But at the end of the day envy will make anything or anyone fall. All root of downfall of man, nations, dynasties.

Yep. As a Harvard Law School Graduate, Charlie is thus an expert on the US Constitution (well, more so than I), and that we are all, by law, intentionally equal, in every possibly way. All powered, at least in the US, by subsidies and or matching funds under contract. More law stuff. Enter more recent commentaries by the likes of the famed also Harvard educated Psychologist, Jordan Peterson, and the various clips on YT about his arguing with this of that news reporter and the fussing done by cited reporters about some not having the latest in Limousine cars. Does get a lot of US politicians elected to offices, or maybe remain in office. Watch PBS on a regular basis. Of course all of this voting really does work, laws get past and enforced. Then the whining jacks up to a much higher decibel. At which point I usually start reading a book or something.

And Friedrich Nietzsche made envy respectable. The ad hominem attacks-of an argument or reaction directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining-on Charlie Munger, show logic is no longer taught.

A lot of what he said here is very misleading and I'm not sure he's even aware of it. "It's not greed.." -Sure, don't talk about what You do. Make it about everyone else. Having more money does not mean you speak for the entire population. Yes, sometimes a man walks out on his driveway and feels envy when he sees his neighbors truck. That's being human. Always has.. always will.. blah blah. That is Not what has people so upset. Someone realizing 1% of the population controls a "free" market is not envy. Realizing your CEO makes 2000 times your salary is not envy. Seeing a bank rob everyone in housing and then get away with it is not envy.

Partially true. I think most people would be content if we had a thriving middle class. Most ppl dont care for private jets and luxury penthouses. But fractions within the government have manipulated our circumstances, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to survive. When Biden came into office, the overall contentment level of Americans dropped significantly. And it wasn't by accident. Like I said before, pockets of individuals in positions of power have been manipulating our circumstances for a very long time. There's good. There's evil. Fear God only. Trump 2024. The best is yet to come.

Sad but True. And envious people are the most pathetic people of them all. If you don't have what it takes to go get your own, then don't go around envy those who actually do. And just like Munger, I too could care less what you do and what you have.
