Great work Ermanno as always!!! I have two questions. I want to install Arch on my desktop with Nvidia GPU. I want to install linux-zen and nvidia-dkms. Do I need to set in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf >>MODULES={nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm} ? And do I need to enable DRM kernel parameter as it says Arch's wiki?

I'm on EndeavourOS, which is Arch-based and I have nvidia hybrid setup and I am able to use my laptop, though I use optimus manager at the moment. I may try what was recommended in this video though as it looks easy enough to implement.

Hi Ermanno, i would like use on my laptop : Gnome, wayland (not Xorg), hybrid graphics (intel/nvidia) and Steam. I have done this before but after an update my config broke. I had some issues with timeshift so, i made a dual boot Arch/Kubuntu. Arch is for everyday use, Kubuntu is only for gaming. I don't like this situation. I would like have only Arch but with everything working (specialy gaming with steam). Is it possible for you to make a install with all this config and perhaps (i think it's mandatory) with a script to make sure at every update won't brake anything. Sorry for my bad english, i'm a dumb french ! hahaha ;-)

This is weird with my laptop in wnidows i'm only able to use hybrid but in linux this envycontrol gives me the option to use my laptop in nvidia only mode i actually tested this with a game and ended up getting higher fps in linux in the game than what i got in windows i even tried to get the same results in windows but i can't get nvidia only mode option anywhere in windows so the performance is less

1 question, what to do if my laptop didn't detect the nvidia card? I'm stuck with just the Intel card. Any help is appreciated, ty.

hi thanks for the video. Something confused me about the system76 one, and it comes up here as well: if both of these methods require you to reboot, then it seems they are only marginally better than just using the bios to switch between dedicated/integrated/hybrid. Am I missing something? I understand that just issuing a command and rebooting is a bit more convenient than tweaking an option in the bios, but I'm thinking it's perhaps not worth the effort of installing a special tool that will need to be reinstalled whenever switching OSes, etc. Either way, all of your videos including this one are very much appreciated!

Yes, the problem is, like on this laptop, you can’t always turn off the dgpu in the bios. Not every laptop offers that option.

Very informative. Glad I don't have to configure Nvidia 😂 however it is great to have knowledge shared. About the time I say I don't need it would be about the time someone gives me a computer with Nvidia 😂

Is there a solution for Hybrid graphics and Wayland (i want to use only Nvidia GPU with proprietary drivers)?
@eflinux2 жыл бұрын
That really depends on how Nvidia will support Wayland in the future

And with two cards, in hybrid mode. Is it possible to pass through nvidia card into virtual machine?
@eflinux2 жыл бұрын
That I haven't tested yet, but I don't see why not.

Do you think that I should replace optimus-manager or is it fine to stick with it?
@geraldchambi90692 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you really want, with Optimus manager you just offload the nvidia module from the kernel (I’m not sure) but the nvidia card will still be using energy and to change from different modes (integrated, hybrid and nvidia) you just need to log out an log in, whilst in envy control it blacklists the nvidia module from kernel at boot, so the nvidia card doesn’t even use energy, I think this method is more functional if you like to have more battery life but if you’d rather save time I’d go with Optimus-manager because to change modes you need to reboot in envy control

is there any neat way to use nvidia prime (hybrid) without flatpaks?
@eflinux2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you just need to set the variables in your environment for the programs you want to run Nvidia with.
