It's not only Chelsea, having long term manager is not the norm in general. Bayern, Barca, PSG, Juve, United and more have changed managers past 2-3 seasons. Even Emery before Arteta only got 1 season at Arsenal. Among active managers, Ten Hag is currently in top 6 for longest serving manager in the Premier League this past season(20 teams overall), would you believe it. So it's not as common as people make it sound. If I'm not wrong, the English football culture has favoured more the long term approach than the European historically. The sporting director model is actually more European. The whole power used to reside with the manager in English football(Sir Alex, Wenger, Moyes etc.). Chelsea were one of the early adopters among top clubs of the European model in PL.

I think Carney is a winner, tho. He just has the disadvantage of having other players in front of him. He can play the Dewsbury Hall role. Dribbling out of press carrying the ball up for the team and his interplay is also on a decent level. But he'll need to compete with the likes of Enzo Caicedo Gallagher if he stays and Lavia if fit. Maybe Palmer even. The fact that Enzo loves his wingers to beat their fullbacks makes Noni just a slight advantage on the Rw position. So Palmer in a free role in the middle of the park is a possibility. Since we also don't need to chase the ball as much as we did under pochettino adds more on how feasible it is.

I wonder who's going to stay deep among Enzo and Caicedo. Enzo's best form with us has come as a deep-lying playmaker, and Caicedo is very well-rounded that he can roam around and provide balance to use Palmer as the third midfielder. And Enzo should have enough defensive protection with inverted fullbacks. But also Caicedo might be more apt actually dropping between CBs. Also I think Gusto will go well inverting. We saw it a lot of times where he did a Ronaldo chop inside and then ran into midfield spaces, signalling how he understands the space. And Ricardo Perreira was one of the more dynamic RBs before Maresca. And in a positional system, players switch positions, and I think whenever the RW cuts inside, the inverted fullback might be able to overlap. I would classify him as a winner because he will get to add a different dimension to his game. Should he not look as good, he's highly rated enough to get a big move and excel still.
@KingDaCon
@KingDaCon Ай бұрын

I’d rather change manager before we sell gusto. Mans a baller and could be with us for 10+ years. We shouldn’t get rid of top talents for an unproven manager, so unless he gets us top 4 I wouldn’t remove any highly talented player just cause he doesn’t like him. Managers don’t last here
@glimpsepandey3174
@glimpsepandey3174 Ай бұрын
@@Dilllll26 Given how talented Gusto is, I would not be surprised if he will want to leave within the next 2-3 seasons if James manages to stay fit. There's no way he stays as a backup RB. He wasn't supposed to play as much as he did last season, I'm glad we have him but feels similar to Palmer situation at City. And Real Madrid is desperately looking for a RB.

I think petrovic's ball playing is criminally underrated. Please check his passing stats especially for short and medium passes which is whats needed in this kind of system and you'll realise last season he was literally the best keeper in the world for that, with 100% completion on short passes and 97.5 on medium passes.

Not finished with the video yet, but I think there's a chance to rotate which fullback inverts possibly, since we have two that can invert from opposite sides of the pitch (and two/three that are good going up and down as well). Inverting Reece and starting Ben makes sense. But there's no reason we can't invert Cucu and start Gusto, either. Hell -- we saw it last year -- Gusto could even play LB sometimes when Reese starts. We need to be careful with Reese's minutes anyway.

Slightly different but I think we’ll line up like this (starter/cover): GK - (New GK)/Petrovic LB - Chilwell/Cucurella LCB - Colwill/Badiashile RCB - Chalobah/Fofana RB - James/Gusto CDM - Caicedo/Lavia/Ugochukwu CM (Holding) - Fernandez/Lavia/Chukwuemeka CM (Attacking) - Palmer/Nkunku/Chukwuemeka LW - Sterling/Mudryk ST - Nkunku/Jackson RW - Madueke/Sterling I do unfortunately think that the board will want to sell both Chalobah and Gallagher but I don’t think they’d sell both in one window; especially if we do sell Gallagher to Spurs. It would go down like a lead sinker with the fans. I think we’ll keep Chalobah and potentially sell him mid season or next window. Also allows Fofona to find his feet after some nasty injuries. Despite end of season form, something tells me that Nkunku was a key marquee signing for the board and that he’ll be regarded as a focal point (along with Palmer) by the board for Maresca to build around. I think there will be pressure around Maresca to get results early and he will probably rely on the likes of Sterling/Palmer (players who know Pep Ball). Our eventual front 3 will hopefully be: LW - Nkunku/Jackson ST - Jackson/Nkunku RW - Mudueke/(Estevao Willian/Kendry Paez 😅) In terms of Chilwell/Cucurella, I think it’s glaringly obvious who the better LB is, despite the profile of position. It would genuinely be mental to not utilise Chelsea’s fullback partnership of James and Chilwell. And I’m also struggling to see how Chilwell wouldn’t adapt to inverting as he already does so when he goes forward. Often times the winger (Sterling) will stay wide and Chilwell will invert inside; either for a touch line run or as a switch pass to the other wing/midfielder. Often times he’ll form triangles with the LW/CM/ LCB or LW/CM/CDM. Anyway, that’s my little 2 cents worth!

I think there are quite a few options here. I think it could be Enzo that sits with the inverted full back, leaving Carney and Caicedo to play as 8's. Lavia could also become the main man at holding, which is obvious due to his past connection. The inverted full back could come from the left hand side and be a way of us mixing things up and not being predictable, so Gusto would still get plenty of minutes. I do agree that Sterling could become a big winner with the new coach and how he'll set up. Jackson might have to worry about playing though as I could see Nkunku becoming the main man through the middle and having the better profile to drop deep and join up play. Jackson like Mudryk could struggle with how the team will set up. It's going to be fascinating to see it develop.

Badiashile is a very good ball playing CB, I don't know if it's because of the Colwil bais, or you just don't see it. Rewind to Badiashile and Koulibaly pairing. His ball playing abilities are really up there. He's agreeably lost some form of recent due to injury, although a bit better now, but doesn't mean he's not a good ball playing CB. Kepa feels tailor made for what Maresca needs. If the board is such a fan of Maresca I can totally see Kepa sticking around. The only keeper better suited to it I can think of now is Onana. I don't know which other keeper is out there that is good enough with his feet for Maresca. Completely agree that Chilly won't have the best standing with Maresca. He's about the only LB we have (or had if we include Maatsen and Hall) that I don't think can successfully invert. I think Mudryk could actually be a winner. His passing and the little combinations he likes to do are among his best and most consistent traits. Sterling and Noni on the other hand I'm not so sure about as they suck with passing imo. I hope that, because of this apparently rather rigid system, we'll be able to see more academy kids. Even with loads of injuries Poch sometimes felt dead set on not using our academy prospects. Hopefully we don't have those injuries but if we do we better test some kids and not force another full 90 down anybody's throat.

I don’t really agree with you on Badiashile, it seems like his passing is the best out of our CBs. He plays great long balls and plays line splitting passes on the ground too. His defending is the issue and his aerial ability for someone so tall feels weak in the box. Overall I do agree with your list though I think an invert of Maresca’s system may work better where our LB inverts and our RBs are the ones bombing down. This would work better with Gusto and James and for Madueke since hes the opposite side Mavididi in terms of cutting inside.

Maresca saw Sterling's disasterclass (missed 1 on 1, horrible free kick) first hand in the FA Cup in March. So hopefully he's the first out of the door

That’s true. But he’s a senior player and he scored in the last two league games to secure us 6th. He shouldn’t be a starter. But he’s a good squad option.

Mudryk winner, I think just for the the runs in behind. In a more controlled system he just needs to time his runs well

I think Badiashille is a good ball playing defender and I always seem to say this, write off Connor Gallagher at your own peril. The idea that he isn’t technical enough is a myth to me tbh. I think he can do well in this system, and any system tbh. We as Chelsea fans will find out how good Connor is and not just good how we think he is, but as an all round football player. Whether it’s in Chelsea or somewhere else

I hope this works out, better than anyone could imagine. But as if right now, it's looking like the final death blow. Maresca almost got sacked at Leicester, their slump was so bad. He won a title anyone should. I keep hearing a lack of adaptability is a problem as well.

In terms of keepers... doesn't kept kind of fit that mold? He's good with his feet. I think he's above level of all the others. It's just whether or not he stays. Which I suppose... is unlikely

Why not keep inverting Cucurella? It obviously benefits him and his aggressive style both on offense and defense. James can overlap. Plus Mudryk plays very wide wile Madueke or Olise would cut in it makes perfect sense.
