7:34 the woman on the right is Joan Cusack. One of the most amazing women in the world. She was in my blue heaven. Yes John Cusack is also in this movie?… that’s Joan Cusack’s brother. They were in a lot of movies together in the 80s and 90s.

That is the best teen ending for any love-struck girl. It still brings a happy tear to my eyes. Sixteen Candles and Fast Times at Ridgemont High are my favorite 80s movies. That was my teenage era.

That moment all the other cars pull away to reveal Jake standing there and the music kicks in... ✨Magic. I've watched this movie countless times throughout my life and it still gives me chills every time. I think half the credit goes to the Thomson Twins for the actual music (and who I became a huge teenaged fan of because of this song in this movie), but then, Hughes had an INCREDIBLE knack for putting the right songs in the right places in every film he made. He understood us 80's tweens, teens and homecoming queens like no other. Ps. Joan Cusack is a gift to comedy, to film, to humanity. Protect her at all costs.

I looked like Ricky Schroeder when I was a little kid, in 1979 right around the time of "The Champ"....that stuff happened to me a lot. Then I grew up and somehow wound up looking like Kelsey Grammer. When I was in a cab in NYC in 1994, with a couple of family friends, a cab driver freaked out and thought I was him and simply could not be convinced otherwise. Especially when the 10 year old son of my friend, thinking it was hilarious kept telling the driver I was Patrick Swayze not Kelsey Grammer....the driver was from India, he begged me for an autograph so i signed "To my friend Reyansh, all the best....Patrick Swayze" He was so thrilled. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I preferred my Ricky Schroeder era. 🫤

For those of us who were teenagers in the 80s, Jake Ryan was * chef's kiss *. We all wanted our own Jake Ryan. Jake facilitated some questionable behavior, but he gets a pass because he's so handsome. Ha! The racist remarks in this film were uncomfortable to watch back then, and these days... oof. They didn't age well, but I guess were hallmarks of the zeitgeist. J, as always, your reaction always makes me laugh and smile. Love all your insights and commentary, and I'm so happy you enjoyed this John Hughes classic so much! 🙂

Oh I’m extra thrilled about this one 🍿 Confidently certain J will adore it and the silly yet charmingly comical moments that encapsulates the 80s to a T❣️Aside from our beloved Slasher Saturdays I have to excitedly say that after The Breakfast Club reaction (which I’ve watched too many times to admit 🤭) and other notable 80s era classics - I must say I thoroughly enjoy rewatching my childhood decade (late 70s to early 2000s in my opinion; produced some of the best gems in cinema that have yet to be matched in creativity, story (something more simple due to absence of CGI, indirect/irrevelent “filler” scenes, one dimensional characters that all have been repeated alongside the infinite amount of other reasons I’m partial to older films just in general. Nostalgia plays a part surely, but way back when the Oscars actually were worth watching and had top talent A-tier actors/actresses, directors, producers with the cherry on top being that usually in all categories you genuinely had no idea who would win (unlike today) because it was actually a genuinely respectful equal measure in masterpieces in regards to the quality and quantity of gold being produced by what the majority today would call the OG 🐐’s of the best roster/list of movies and everyone involved in the filming and acting the hell out of them. Just check out past nominations and wins from it’s beginning journey to I’d say the early 2000s. It took a noticeable dive overall after 2009-10, specifically in particular genres and themes that were lazily copied, imitated and just plain old overdone - as if you’ve seen the same movie over and over; just in different titles with forgettable faces executing the repetitive circle that always oils the machine still, somehow. Apologies, my edible (for chronic pain) kicked in at the worst possible time. Also I’m aware that some of my statements can be disagreed upon and I know that history repeats itself when it comes to scripts, protagonists being typical and the antagonist predictably repetitive; etc (it’s simply not as cut and dry). There’s something though to be said about the magic of movies in the golden era up to a certain year where there were far more misses than hits - I firmly believe most of us can agree to an extent on that one (unless you were born in the last two generations, not all but a TON of you are absolutely LOST when it comes to keeping an open mind and pursuing types of films that aren’t only the high budget, constant explosions, poor writing/production/plot/character development or lack thereof etc; all concealed going unnnoticed because the attention span of the youth is disturbingly short and memory/overall mental retention is…well- *BONSAAAIII* ❣️😅🪴 - Note to Self : Please proof read and correct errors from this post when you wake up later despite the fact that you likely will delete your own novel of a comment for being chaotically long-winded and goofy 😂 It’s the green, it’s not me I swear! 😉 💚 • Cassie • 💨

Molly Ringwald was like a daughter to John Hughes. Their best film together is "Pretty In Pink". It is an emotional, and poignant story; and includes an unrequited love that overshadows the actual love story. Brilliant performances from everyone involved, with John Cryer, James Spader, Annie Potts, Andrew McCarthy, and legendary actor Harry Dean Stanton. Stanton delivers a heartbreaking outburst to his daughter Andy (Molly Ringwald), that elevates the film to favourite status, for me. While John Hughes had a gift for including killer soundtracks in his films, he relied on Ringwald for new music that would appeal to teens. In "Sixteen Candles", Sam is carrying a binder with a sticker from the band "The Rave-Ups". John Hughes hired the band to appear in "Pretty in Pink", for a pivotal scene, in which they perform one of their songs; "Positively Lost Me". I can not express how much I love that song, and the film from which it featured. I can not wait to share "Pretty in Pink" with you all, just like my older brother did with me all those decades ago.

80s cars had a bench seat in the front. 3 could fit easily as seatbelts weren't a law to use then. Singing 16 candles is Brian setzler (not sure if i got the last name right) but love his voice. He's also in labamba and an episode of the nanny. He literally was the cats meow and his band was called the stray cats. Fun songs that i still love today 🎶

I was driving at 10. Dad would take us to his family's place twice a year in West virginia. Around 10 is when we were allowed to drive by ourselves once we got to a certain point. It was miles and thankfully we knew which area to go slow and keep our for in the breaks! If not you were dying on those mountains!

Loved this reaction. I want to recommend Father of the Bride. It's cute and wholesome. I think you'd like the humor of it too. Steve Martin and Martin Short. The 2nd one is funny too.
