I dearly love the 20 sec silence after the reveal. Some people are excited; some feel justified in earlier guesses; some are just jumping around shaken. I love it when a reactor just looks angry and like they want to b*-slap a film for what a trip they just got taken on. Love your work, man! :)

The longer the silence went on, the harder I laughed. Yeah, I felt that. The first time I saw the film, it was already out on VHS. After my own long silence, I rewound the tape and watched the whole thing again.

From IMDB trivia - In an interview on The Colbert Report (2005), Kevin Spacey revealed that Bryan Singer managed to convince every one of the major actors that they were Keyser Soze. When first screened for the company of actors, Gabriel Byrne was so stunned when he found that he wasn't Keyser Soze that he stormed off into the parking lot and argued with Singer for a half hour.

Verbal is not Soze. There are countless reasons why I thought Kobayashi is Soze but one true giveaway is the moment in the pool room when he first appears to the 5 suspects. Just as Keaton utters the words "someone with power..." they cut to a shot of Kobayashi calmly standing in the shadows having entered unnoticed by these career criminals. And then it happens again during the finale as we see and hear the montage of clues as Kint is walking down the street. When the phrase "someone with power" is played again the Jaguar with Kobayashi appears behind him. So subtle and sly. Bonus, we never know his real name as Kobayashi is the name Kint gave him from the coffee mug. And he was present at every key moment of manipulation of the suspects.

The brilliance of the twist is that the Keaton swerve makes so much sense, and Chazz Palminteri is convincing as hell when he sells it. That's why the final reveal is such a mindbender. As soon as you think it all makes sense, they pull the rug out. And here's something I caught after many, many rewatches. When Kujan goes on his 'You've known this whole time' rant, Verbal slips and says 'I don't know what you're talking about, I DID KILL KEATON.' He corrects himself by saying 'I saw him die,' but in the heat of the moment, he accidentally confesses to Keaton's murder, and thereby reveals that he is Keyser Soze. Kujan brags that he knows how to spot a murderer, but when a murderer slips up and confesses, he doesn't even notice, because he's so obsessed with Keaton, and so overconfident that he's yelling over Verbal/Keyser when he says the words 'I did kill Keaton.'

The biggest hint is in the very first big scene in the entire movie. When Keaton is sitting on the ship saying he can't feel his legs. When the guy you don't see the face of speaks, he speaks in a whisper but it's definitely his voice. Nobody ever picks up on it, but upon watching it a second time or more I can clearly tell.

You're right - he did ultimately fail. The entire endeavor was to kill the Argentinian snitch so that the authorities would not know that he is at least an operative of if not the leader of the criminal entity known as "Keyser Soze." But one of the Hungarians survived the attack, saw his face, and described it to the sketch artist. The "Verbal Kint" identity is burned, he will have to continue his activities off-grid and underground or get plastic surgery or something.

The funny thing is when you watch it a second time you start to see the hints you didn't see the first time, like Kobayashi congratulating Verbal for killing the jeweler when only the 5 of them were there, otherwise how would the lawyer have known? And also the foreign way Verbal holds his cigarette. You almost have to watch it again. You're compelled to.

In jail Verbal tells everyone that he’s called “Verbal” because he talks too much. The name Keyser Söze roughly translates to “King Talk Too Much”. He told the rest of the suspects and the audience he was Keyser when we first met him and we all brushed it off. Brilliant

Kevin Spacey is so great in this. Now that you know who he really is (or is he?) pay attention to the little facial expressions he makes. When Kujan (the cop interviewing him) initially says "my guess is he's using you because you're stupid and you think he's your friend" the camera isn't on Kujan, it's on Verbal. @12:18. There's this smug little grin as Verbal thinks "I've got you now" and spins his tales. But it could also be a smug little smile because he's got immunity and is laughing a bit at Kujan's tough guy act. It works in both interpretations, which is amazing. Also notice how his tales and even his persona change near the end when Kujan announces that Keaton is Keyser Soze. Verbal is playing to Kujan's preconceptions, and to ours. Also keep in mind that this movie is filmed from Kujan's perspective, visualizing the stories that Verbal tells. The only things we actually know are that there was that shootout and fire on the dock the previous day, that there were no drugs, and that Keaton's wife was found shot in a hotel. Did the initial lineup happen? Did the jobs in between happen? Did that jeweler / drug courier get murdered or even exist? It's not like Kujan, who was a customs officer, had time to verify any of it. The bodies on the boat were burned to a crisp and hadn't (yet) been identified, so Verbal was free to say it was anybody or everybody. He knew he'd be out within an hour or two, and by the time anybody noticed any inconsistencies he'd have vanished.

Actually now that I think about it.Besides that great comment about the Keaton's reaction that he pointed out, which I hadn't thought of, also that line "I can't feel my legs". That a sly ironic line given the case 🙂

The mind bending suspense thriller. The mind melting, head exploding movie is by far THE best genre of movie in history for me personally. This one is at the top. I could name more, but if I do it kinda spoils them if you go in knowing your mind is expected to be blown. Good luck and congrats when you find the rest😎

I kind of guessed the ending when during that one job Verbal headshot a guy in cold blood. It was very suspicious.

I love watching reactions to this film where, after the reveal at the end, the reactor(s) tries to rationalize the plot of the movie, assuming that it all did happen. They usually don't realize that almost everything that we saw from Verbal's story didn't happen - he made it all up. There are certain things we know that did happen - things that can be verified by the police (i.e. these 5 criminals were in a lineup in New York, they invaded this boat and a lot of people were killed, etc). But most of Verbal's story to Agent Kuhian (sp?) is just him improvising. There is no Redfoot, there is no lawyer named Kobyashi, etc.

Your face when the big reveal hits is what I'm gonna enjoy most (feel free to prove me wrong) I'm expecting a "are you f'n kidding me" or a "get outta here" or something fun!

That's the exact reaction I had when I saw that ending for the first time. I just sat there in stunned silence for an eternity. What an ending! Still the best I've ever seen.

You know, I can't think of a single time Peter Greene has played a good guy, now that you mention it. He was the traitorous partner in Blue Streak, too. He's just always slimy. Hey, you'd probably also enjoy The Prestige and LA Confidential if you liked this one. Great flicks.

That’s one of the realest lines ever spoke in a movie. “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he first exist” Look at the state of the world and entertainment. But hey, October is fun right?

I have to make another comment. I watch a lot of movie reactions on youtube, and you're the only one where people feel like we're actually watching it with you instead of watching you watch a movie. Best movie reaction Channel out there.
