This is the thing delightful about "speed painting", Jay is finding a way to produce miniatures the way he likes them in a timely manner, which is just an excuse to get to do more of the good stuff he loves! Good on you man, this has actually been pretty inspirational, and it has me thinking I should do the same with my shadow collective stuff I am steadily building.

Jay: Wears an apron to keep his clothes clean Also Jay: Wipes brush on his jumper Very nice video - i felt your excitement through it all - it all came out looking lush - nice control on the contrast/speed paints - def the hardest part in using contrast paints is keeping it between the lines

Love the result. I am however extremely uninterested in videos like "paint x models in under x hours". But you know what, i am so sold on your painting, that i just cant help my self. I don't paint the way you do, i never will, but i think its a great way and great style, with a great end result, i really like your black templars, and death guard style! When i paint, i do batch painting as a baseline entry to the whole army, then doing 2 shades of highlight. But i never set a time for my self. What i later do is i pick a few models, and spend the time bringing the "painting lever" from my baseline + highlight to the highest level i can reach. Now i have been painting for 30 years now, so my highest level is really high, but thats also reserved for characters and sometimes vehicles or other special "models". The grunts or backbone they get to reach a good level. For the brunt of my armies they should look as good as they can at arms lenght away. Characters should be able to look good on a photo.

Damn it Jay. I never paid much attention to these when they released because I don't play Black Templars, I don't want to start a new army and frankly, I have too much to do already (I have the following armies to start/ finish; Tau, Imperial Guard, Leagues of Votaan and my Horus Heresy Imperial Fists which will join a smaller 40k force to create something much larger. And that's just my 40k, not my Kill Team, AoS, Adeptus Titanicus or MESBG armies.) And yet, watching this, I think these models are incredible. So good I may have to get some. And even though I don't collect black Templar and I don't want to start a new Space Marine Army, I can't help but find a loophole in Black Templars being a Second Founding Chapter of my trusty Imperial Fists. So maybe in the future I was see a little splodge of black in my sea of yellow.

The shoulder shields are likely based on besagews, which were a small shield medieval knights had on either of their shoulders, they would protect their armpits when they raised their arms to swing in battle.

Gj. When it comes to powerswords ive always just figured since they are wrapped in energy they would appear to be akin to lightsabers. So i just wetblend mine. Got it down to it taking a minute or 2 per sword for "massproduced" boyos. You can ofcourse fiddle with lots of washes and layering and highlights and such but i save that for the chunky boys that stand on the shelf.

I may get jumped on for this but I think some of your "corner cutting techniques" are detrimental. However, that being said, I still love watching your videos because you have some pretty interesting techniques to learn/steal and the overall final product does come out looking pretty great despite personal preferential nitpicks. As a fellow long time Templar player, I've been watching your crusade slowly grow in both size and technique.. and it's been very enjoyable for me. Hope to see many more Templar showcases and painting videos. 10,000 years and going strong, keep up the great work!

@timunderbakke87562 жыл бұрын
@@xtraturnss3831 you’re welcome. I just saved you hours of careful trim painting. Just be a little careful near the edges of the armor so you don’t paint over the trim. I’ve had really good luck with contrast “Kroxigar scales” for the blueish hue and “blood angels red” for things like helmet or bolter. I use other colors that aren’t contrast for stuff like the stripes on the helmet or other small details.

The thing with slapchop, is if you don't keep inside the lines and you get speedpaint where different speedpaint should be then you're in trouble. You can't paint over speedpaint with speedpaint, and because you're painting over a zenithal you can't just go back to the primer colour. As a serial and irredeemable mistake maker it's just no use to me, though those with more accurate hands can no doubt get great value out of it.

@EonsOfBattle This isn't specifically about this video but it kind of fits here and I don't think I can remember seeing a previous video where it has come up. Do you varnish your models at all when you're done, particularly with the contrast/speed paint heavier paintjobs? I'm fairly new to painting, so have yet to play a lot with my models to see what kind of wear I would get on them, but it's a thing I keep hearing people recommend doing and was curious what your thoughts are on finishing models with some kind of sealant.
