Elliot, you are Godsent; after learning about "Thiamine" watching your videos, I've started using Benfotiamine---and you know what? 10 years of my battle with Acid Reflux, Digestive disorders, lethargy, Low stomach acid, brain fog, severe Sinusitis, etc......etc.... just disappeared. Keep up the good work brother. May God bless you. I am planning to advance to TTFD from Thiamax

I am so glad I found your channel. I have dealt with SIBO symptoms since childhood. As a child, my mom took me to doctors for fatigue and extreme hunger issues, weight gain, weird pains. She thought I had thyroid problems. Doctors never found anything wrong and said I just needed to lose weight. I complained of gut issues to doctors as an adult and was told I had IBS. I was prescribed meds to make my bowels move and would have debilitating diarrhea from them. Then in my late 20’s I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Lots of meds given, infusions, vitamins etc. After that was cleared up, I thought I had a gluten allergy because every time I ate gluten I would have huge gut issues and a reemergence of my fibromyalgia symptoms. The last several years, I’ve had nerve pains and chronic inflammation. I saw another of your videos about Thiamine and immediately ordered Benfotiamine and TTFD. I’m taking 900 mg Benfotiamine and 150 mg of the TTFD. It’s miraculous how much better I’m feeling. I’m having regular bowel movements for the first time in my life. My inflammation is so much better. The weird nerve pains in my shoulders and legs have almost gone entirely. The tingling sensation on my back that drives me crazy is rare now. My bloating has improved, gas issues decreased. I have energy for the first time in years. My appetite has deceased. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I am going to increase my dose of each again to 4 tablets of each instead of 3 per day and see if I can everything to go away entirely. I feel like this must have been the missing link my whole life. Also, I have been able to eat gluten with zero symptoms, so the gluten sensitivity must have just been because of my other gut issues. I am telling all of my friends about Thiamine and am sending them to your channel. 😘

This paints an extra grim picture for those with MCAS/histamine intolerance. Often with these conditions, people are limiting their foods causing greater malnutrition, then on top of that, taking extremely high doses of antihistamines which block acetylcholine further, which would create even more gut dysfunction. Many people with histamine/allergy issues seem to have leaky gut/SIBO/IBS and many other gut issues, and I can't help but think that conventional treatment will only make these conditions worse and create detrimental effects on the gut and vagus nerve. Myself included. Thiamine treatment has almost fully alleviated my colonic inertia after 10 years of severe symptoms. I was left with only the option of removing half of my bowel, Thiamine and cofactors have restored it's function. Glutamine has helped with the leaky gut and thus the MCAS is getting better. I absolutely believe you're correct in this theory and I appreciate your work in helping people help themselves. 💙 Stay awesome Elliott!

I've watched a few vids today on B1. Your's and dr. Berg's have been the best explanation so far. I had repeated SIBO due to bad well water for 2.4 yr before fifuring it out. It had arsenic and uranium in it. I had worked with 3 teams of Cleveland clinic dr in Cleveland Ohio ,and no one had answers. I finally went through a few functional med dr and one gave me a urine test that found out it was those 2 heavy metals. I was drinking 60 oz a day of it. For some reason it's been 4 months since i stopped the water, and i keep having constipation. It is like legit paralysis of my digestive tract. I'm positive after almost dying ( i had many other issues besides digestive) my liver and vagus nerve had seen anough. My small Intestine is probably shot. I'm eating paleo ( also high quility cheese i kept), otherwise paleo diet. Drink 60oz of SAFE water daily. I use infrared sauna. I workout. I don't eat fake sugars. I've been stuck on miralax of at least a small dose. If i get lower on it, try weaning off...i get constipation to a point almlst NOTHING works. 2 caps of miralax daily and up to 4 sennas twice a day to try clearing out. This week nothing worked. The GI put me on the protocol for when you are about to get a scope. Starting today, after watching all of these videos, i started thorne muilti vitamin. It has all the Bs woth egerything else. I hope when i get back to eating tomorrow, it helps. I was already athletic and thin. Lost 30 pounds. I'm sick of being called 2D. Never thought at 39 words would hurt. This B1 gives me hope. Plus, i see a new functional this Friday. B1, Paleo, probiotics, and digestive enzymes should get things going 🙏🏼

Another symptom of SIBO may be histamine intolerance (as it was for me) because the bacteria in the small intestine are often histamine-producing bacteria. In my case, the combination of the histamine produced in the small intestine, plus histamine that occurs naturally in foods, and the histamine that the body itself produces overwhelmed my body's histamine-metabolizing ability. I cured it by adopting a keto/carnivore diet and taking HCl, and bile enzymes. Now I'm fine. I do, also, take a B-complex supplement. Hope this helps someone.

That is interesting. This video caught my attention because my mother has so many of these issues. She has gone on a FODMAP diet that helps to some extent. But she ends limiting so much that she eats. Mostly, she'll eat the same few foods all the time: gluten-free crackers with cheese and rice puffs with peanut butter. Not exactly nutrient-density of any sort. And rice can potentially be high in heavy metals. Anyway, considering your comment, some of her SIBO issues might be with food are histamine intolerance. It would be nice to sort it all out, as she has struggled with this for many decades.

By the way, an animal-based diet (particularly if nose-to-tail) is definitely going to provide all of the B vitamins and other essential nutrients needed. It might be helpful to ensure enough organ meats or else take desiccated organ meat supplements. That is what I do, a combination of the two, along with bone broth and plenty of animal fat.
@joanblack6672

Two important things I should add: 1) since meat contains histamine, especially meat that has been sitting in the fridge for a few days before it's cooked, I took DAO capsules (diamineoxydase) to handle the histamine in my food while I was trying to heal myself. 2) The extra HCl and bile salts not only killed off my SIBO, they disturbed my normal gut flora too (I got the trots); adding full-fat Greek yogurt (no fruit or sugar) to my diet for a few days straightened out that problem so that now I'm ok and can eat what I want--even chocolate which usdd to bring on a severe histamine response. [Be very aware that, though DAO caps will handle the histamine in your food, they will not be helpful against the histamine that your own body releases. For example, chocolate and red wine cause a strong histamine-release and DAO caps are not helpful so be aware and do your research. There are websites out there that are dedicated to helping people with histamine issues.

@@joanblack6672 - Fresh meat and fish is low in histamines. You can solve that problem by buying fresh meat directly from the butcher. There are also services that will ship fresh meat and fish that is immediately flash frozen. Besides avoiding meat that is aged or been sitting at the store, including processed meat, don't slow cook meat or eat leftover meat from previous days and don't eat ground meat. For the same reason, avoid fermented and aged foods of all sorts, from animals and plants. If possible, get meat from animals that were slaughtered under low-stress conditions and so avoid factory-farmed. By the way, organ meats like kidney contain DAO. But I can't speak of foods that increase the body's endogenous levels of histamines, as I now avoid chocolate and red wine. In any case, I'm not sure that histamines have ever been a problem for me. I've had various symptoms when I shifted from various diets, but they've mostly all resolved now that I've settled into a diet that is ketoish and carnivorish with some occasional carbs and plant foods. Beef, in particular, is very easy on my system with no obvious issues of digestion or anything else.

This is awesome, I started supplement high doses of B1 some weeks ago. At that point my intestines were still haywire. I went systematicaly through all vitamins, some with bloodtests, most without. But cronometer showed me I probaly had deficiency in B1 (and maybe also B3). I figured I might have started to develop cardiovasculair and digestive beri beri on symptoms, so thats why I took on a 2 month high dose of thiamine. I had the symptoms, but I mainly did it for my cardiovasculair system (I have peaks of high bloodpressure (ladible high bloodpressure) and arrhytmia together with it and it seems related to my digestion, when I am fasting (during night) my bp is normal and constant, when I eat it skyrockets up to hypotensial crisis levels for just a minute or so. I really started to improve after starting with thiamine supplementing. Last week I was looking into SIBO, because my intestine would go better and better and was looking for a way to support it and came across SIBO. Questionairs online also pointed towards this. So I bought probiotics as well. I first started with stomach enzymes some weeks ago believing I had low acid levels needing to be fixed, like said going from start to end to heal was my idea too. I found the idea of killing off gut bacteria first too radical to my liking. Since my bloating and belching had become way less lately I just try with probiotica right away. The pain to pressure in my belly has mostly gone already, my stool is more consistent as well my gut seems to heal. And now I see that thiamine is the vitamin that causes SIBO, or well the lack of thiamine does. This makes me 'happy' because this unwellness has been bugging since May. Another step taken in healing my body. I might still have some other deficiencies to work through, but thiamine has been a big one that dealt with many of my symptoms. One tiny vitamin... so much power. And just one that most will say you cant be deficient on. Really.... :(

Drink one quart of cabbage juice (juice it) every day. Consider the work of Garnett Cheney, M.D. He had 100 peptic ulcer patients drink a quart of raw cabbage juice daily. The patients reported dramatically less pain, and X-ray examination confirmed faster healing time. There was no other change in their diet, and they did not have drug therapy. 81% of the patients were symptom-free within one week; over two-thirds were better in just four days. Average healing time for patients given standard hospital treatment was over a month. (Cheney, G: "Vitamin U Therapy of Peptic Ulcer," California Medicine, vol. 77, number 4, October, 1952) Dr. Cheney used cabbage juice to also treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. He clearly was onto something, which he called "Vitamin U" (for ulcer) for lack of a better name. Today, the cabbage family (cruciform) vegetables including Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale and broccoli, are finally being recommended to help prevent diseases including cancer. Dr. Cheney was getting therapeutic results in four days with cabbage juice nearly 70 years ago! If it worked then, it will work now. I know of people who have utilized cabbage juice along with vegetarian diet and fasting to heal all forms of gastrointestinal diseases without drugs and without surgery. One person even cured her untreatable rectal bleeding with cabbage juice. I know of people who, instead of using cabbage, juiced broccoli, broccoli leaves, or kale and obtained success with fairly severe, chronic GI pain. They juiced the kale or broccoli along with carrots to keep the juicer from clogging or running too warm. Dr. Cheney's patients probably were't wild about the idea at first, either. However, they were out of the hospital far sooner, with far less pain, that patients who were not juicing. If cabbage juice can heal a bleeding stomach ulcer, crater and all, in a patient with the condition so bad that it requires hospitalization, then it is plausible that it will heal above the stomach (Barrett's) or below it (Crohn's). Supplementing with vitamin C is very valuable to help heal lesions and inflammation all along the GI tract. Thousands of milligrams in divided doses are necessary for best results. Enough "C" should be taken to improve the condition, but not so much as might cause excessively loose bowels. A non-acidic vitamin C is ideal, because it will not irritate the digestive tract. Sodium ascorbate or calcium ascorbate both work well. Magnesium ascorbate will to, but it is pricey. Dosage is determined by personal experimentation GERD and Barrett's esophagus patients do not usually come home from the doctor's office with a prescription for cabbage juice. That is regrettable, since the juice of any of the cruicform vegetables hastens healing of the inner lining of the throat, as well as the stomach, as well as the intestine, as well as the bowel. Yes, that includes Crohn's disease.

I’ve been on carnivore for a year and I’m still dealing with symptoms of SIBO, IBS, and all my Dysautonomia and autoimmune conditions. The Hashimotos has begun reversing and the MCAS has definitely improved, but the gut health and overall feeling swollen/puffiness and inflammation are still the same. It’s been over 2 decades of being bedridden and couch bound most of the time. The last year and a half have been 90% bedridden. IBS and bloating and weight gain without eating (of which I never had a problem with before, always been slim) has been perplexing because I only eat meat, and even that becomes rare because I often can’t function at all. No one has had an answer for me. Usually omad on average. I am so grateful I found your channel!! I’ve tried Thiamine before (literally tried everything like Ahmed….just watched that video). I didnt see any improvement with the thiamine supplement. I am looking into Thiamax and the other products they make with ttfd. Praying this is the missing link!! Elliot, bro I've been sufferring with SIBO from the past three months, and was prescribed Rifaximin but no improvement, Was suffering with heavy bloating post meals, burps, got very lethargic, anxious and depressed. Did my blood tests couple of days back and was marginally deficient with B1. It's just been couple of days consuming Benfotamine B1 200 mg and I feel so better. I believe my root cause of SIBO would have been food poisoning, am definitely going to avoid refined carbs and heavy caffeine intake, SIBO and gut disorders is horrible,.. Definetely going to work on getting B1 from diet, can't thank you enough for this....

Hi Elliot, I've battled SIBO (first triggered by gastro, possibly mould) up and down for years, which has also caused histamine intolerance. My last SIBO test (2020) showed low numbers but I continue to struggle, having tried virtually everything. My histamine intolerance is such that I can only tolerate extremely small amounts and I recently tried the miracle cure colostrum, which only made everything far worse. So this post is interesting to me. (Of note, given my intolerance of most grains, I eat a lot of rice and rice-based products, which I read can cause low thiamine as well as anti-histamines and other aids like quercetin). My question is, I know that while thiamine deficiency can cause histamine intolerance, paradoxically B vitamins are histamine liberators. Can you advise on introducing thiamine with histamine intolerance?

By the time I figured this out, I had to stop going to GP doctors. Between ridicule, hubris, contempt and accusing me of "overthinking" my symptoms, I had enough. I'm not out of the woods yet, but I've been supplementing B1, D3, Potassium and Magnesium for a while now. Something else is definitely wrong because if I eat sugar, a candy bar, artificial sweetener, juice, burrito wrap or any exotic vegetable (i.e. squash, zucchini, broccoli, etc.), I cough for nine hours straight. Red meat and eggs don't cause this; however, pepperoni, salami and turkey do. I've restricted my diet for years now and I don't eat more than 1.5 meals a day. Otherwise, I'm cooked. Can't drive long distances, can't sit in certain chairs and I can't lie down flat.

Yep, sounds like me. Tested negative for SIBO, yet still had all the symptoms, plus the ones you described. And yes, all after a bout of food poisoning. Still on 600mg of ttfd. Upped to 750mg with no ill effects. Other sources suggest I could have SIFO, so I'm fasting this week, pushing through what I assume is a die off reaction, then I'll be on broth for a while. I am sleeping so much better and my inflammation is down. However, feeling a little crummy and weak today. My body has plenty of nutrition, so I'm trying to figure out what else it needs. Salt, potassium and magnesium don't seem to cut it. Edit 1 year on: Learning a lot more about my own health, made mistakes along the way. I do not recommend fasting, it was a bad idea for me, and go slow whenever trying anything new and remember to speak to your doctor first. I've just run out of benfotiamine. That's how I notice that it really does help me with my digestive and insulin issues.

Not all liver has good amounts of B1, at least unless you have something like 200g of it, which i wouldn't rely on to eat daily due to vitamin A toxicity. Beef liver and chicken liver has about 0,2mg/100g, whereas reindeer liver can have 0,56mg/100g. Heart usually has around 0,5mg/100g so it's a good source, and it has about 10mg/100g of Q10 also. Beef kidneys have ~0,35mg/100g, and egg yolks about the same. Kidneys are extremely high in selenium though. Pork generally has around 1mg/100g so it is a really good source, though the fattiest cuts may have less. Some bacon had about 0,27mg/100g.

@@Sarah_S26 I’m sorry to hear about that. I didn’t have any feeling like that in my gut or any negative side effects. However I’ve noticed that I feel like it’s starting to feel like it’s not working anymore. I’ve read that taking B1 causes you to use B 2 and can delete your B 2 stores. According to what I read, you need B 2 in order for B 1 to work, so when your B 2 stores are depleted then the B 1 stops working. Idk if this is accurate because I haven’t done thorough research on it, but I do know that is how other vitamins work in your body. I’ll have to get B 2 and see if that helps. Also, carbs, sugar and caffeine effect the absorption and your body’s ability to effectively use B 1, so that’s something to keep in mind, as well. What I did when k started taking it was I fasted from everything, but water for a day. The morning I fasted I took B 1 and only drank water all day. Not sure if things would’ve turned out differently had I not fasted, but I did feel the effects very quickly.

I would check the vitamin B complex. A lot of vitamins are synthetic and are not real. For example There are two forms of vitamin B12 that you're likely to come across - methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is the most commonly supplemented form of vitamin B12 and is chemically synthesised. Methylcobalamin is found in animal-based foods and is therefore obviously naturally occurring.
