I sometimes feel like an amateur doing shoots without a flash, but I feel encouraged again watching Julia capturing these stunning photos in natural lighting.
@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
If anything you could say natural light is a little trickier to work with as you don't really have control over it 🤓 but in all seriousness I have always believed that you don't need to "look" super flashy to take professional photos, there are times when flash is needed and there are times when it's not - it's all just about what style you are aiming to achieve!
@sebastianrivera61644 жыл бұрын
Personally, I prefer to learn how to control natural lighting to my advantage over using a flash, less equipment to carry, I guess. And I also like the natural look better. Thanks for the advice, I've learned a lot from your videos!

Julia Trotti thanks for your reply!, incidentally, I have started to use liveview shooting on my 5D IV , particularly for children portraits, and I find autofocus accuracy is quite impressive, although I am not comfortable with the way servo works under liveview...you need to keep pressing the back button focus (since that’s what I have it set up to do)... I wonder if the EOS R works the same way or if it will track the subject regardless of keeping any focus button pressed... that would be nice,

From what I've seen and tried so far, RF lenses are ridiculously sharp! I would love to try the 85 especially. For me it's not so much about getting as sharp as possible photos, because with portrait photography that can be a downfall in that some people don't want to see that much texture and detail on their face (such as weddings, etc) and can lead to more retouching.. more so wanted to see if they performed the same or better than they do on my 5D4 :)

I think the problem with the 50mm wide open is that the plane of focus is so crazy thin it's hard to get enough of the face in focus at once; on the lefthand photo of the blonde model at 4:10, it looks like the focus lands around her left eye and lips, and her right eye falls out of the focal plane. @michaelbell754 жыл бұрын
Another good video but you mention some shots being out of focus again. Why do you not use a vertical battery grip? Thats the first thing I get for my cameras, its a must have. Any little movement shooting wide open at a razor thin f/1.2 is bound to create some camera shake and cause blur. Shooting with a grip that has a vertical shutter allows you to keep your elbow tucked in close to your body which leads to getting steadier shots, rather than having your elbow opened up and away from your body to reach the shutter. That is probably causing most of your focus issues and its why most portrait shooters who dont use grips have their cameras on a tripod to steady it. Get a vertical grip! :)
@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
I shoot landscape most of the time anyway and have never really liked the feeling of having a battery grip on any of my cameras! The out of focus comes from shooting at a shallow depth of field, so for example if I keep my hands steady or put my camera on a tripod, etc, if the model slightly moves her chin up or shifts where she is a tiny bit while I'm taking the picture it will cause it to be out of focus on the eyes.
