I do a little video but primarily still photography and this is why I would choose the EOS R over the EOS RP: - EOS R has a max shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, EOS RP has a max shutter speed of 1/4000 sec - EOS R uses the same LP-E6N batteries as my Canon 5D Mk4, EOS RP uses a completely different battery - EOS R can use a battery grip, EOS RP doesn't have any battery grip option - EOS R has USB 3.1 (5Gb/sec), EOS RP has USB 2.0 (480Mb/sec) - EOS R is 30MP, EOS RP is 26MP - not as drastic as some of the other differences but if I'm getting a new camera I'd rather the sensor be equal to or greater than my existing 5D Mk4 bodies. - EOS R allows custom filenames (which I actually use), EOS RP does not

Thumbs up for the real life comparison. Leaving video capability out of the picture, I actually prefer the RP over the R. I tried them both and yes, the display and EVF is better on the R. But in (my) real life, the mechanical mode dial kills it. It's so much easier to operate whithout looking. I just wish I could afford those RF lenses with the additional dial. Then I could change aperture, exposure and ISO with my fingertips in a fraction of a second. I'm really happy with the RP (coming from a 6D).

Did you come from the 6d or the 6d Mark ii? I read to my wife what you said and she said it really spoke to her. The bit about the shutter curtains closing to protect the sensor appears to me to be a big deal. I am a neophyte when it comes to photography, but dust and dirt on the sensor CANNOT be a good thing. But is it worth $1000? If I buy a camera, it has to last for a long time. Unlike a pro who has to keep up with the latest trends in cameras, my camera has to last for at least 10-15 years. I think the R is more likely to do that than the RP, but, while I have owned Canon cameras for years, the EOS R seems to have problems that mean I should consider another brand. Thanks for the video.
@WSJade4 жыл бұрын
My thoughts and situation exactly! What camera(s) are you looking at to solve those problems? I'm coming from Canon as well but I think Sony a7c is the better bang for buck at this price range. Hello and thank you very much for this very good video and tests. This reassures me because I will soon switch to the Canon R Range! It is I sold my 6D MarkII yesterday! I'm waiting to see if this fall there will be a Photo Fair or a Photokina which could perhaps reveal other novelties from Canon including, who knows, a "Canon RP2" (if you have Info on this subject, I am a taker ...)?! Otherwise it will be the RP to start in this range. A question that I still ask myself: I have the Canon 35 f2 is usm (which I could mount on the RP Via an adapter ring), it is not much heavier than the RF 35 f1.8 is stm, and I should get pretty much the same image renderings right? Apart from the fact that the 35 RF is almost macro (which will not be decisive in my choice), is it really worth it that I resell my 35 f2 is usm to buy the RF 35 f1.8 is stm or not ??? I am also thinking of buying the RF 50mm f 1.8 to start with an Objo. of this new range have you tested it? 😁 Thank you in advance for your answers, Sincerely, Philgood ... 🤓

I have a brief stint with EOS RP... to be honest, I'm blown away and satisfied with the photos considering I only have RF 50 1.8 and RF 85 F2 that time. What if I have 1.4's or 1.2's back then? However, the reason I sold it is because its only 1/4000. hard to shoot wide open in some situations. I could've have countered it with ND filter but its extra stuff that needs to carry all the time. Else, if I have extra money, I will buy RP again for general photography.

Hi, Mitch. I'm about to buy this camera for replacing my XH1. The reason why i need this one is because i have a canon 135mm f2. Do ef lenses perform well in R series body with adapter?

I think you should test the batteries till they die. My M50 battery indicator can go from full to completely dead in a few minutes. It's definitely not worth trusting, and 2 bars really means walking dead!

hellomyphone I disagree. I bought the 5DM3 new when it came out for 3600 body only for a euro trip and shoot weddings almost daily with full frames. It’s such a pain to bring those full frames and L lenses on trips. On small adventures. And even with the viltrox speed booster you can’t pretend the m50 is meant to substitute what a 5dm3 / 6d / 5dm4 is meant to do. I had a blast with the m50 and the native 11-22. It’s fun to adapt EF lenses to it for a third body for high end shoots But it really shines for on the go. Portability. Still great content creating images and videos. BUT to the point I carry 6 batteries at a time. One of my original canon batteries has gone bad (but I believe due to charging on 3rd party charger) but now with my new original and third party batteries they go a long way. I love the sigma 35 1.4 & canon 85 1.2L and they’re great even on the m50 But using the 22m 2.0 EFM and even 50m 1.8 almost create the same look and feel of the image (albeit maybe not to the exact quality) but that’s really only noticeable under an extreme microscope.

Which lens were you using? The Rp is so within budget but canon lenses though excellent are expensive. And there aren't third party options like Sony.

This was nice to see. Decided to buy the RP to get into the RF lens system and with so many questions hovering around the R5/6 right now. Just got it yesterday with the 24-240 lens. Let's see what the next few months has in store...

how was it bro i was looking to get myself the RP for amateur wildlife photography
@derbagger222 жыл бұрын
@@skorpion_king it is a highly underrated camera! Was able to do a lot of travel and take some gorgeous photos. Although, I would say if you want to do wildlife, maybe an R7 is the way to go now. I bought an R6 just about a year ago and sold mine to KEH. The R7 gets you the crop sensor for extra reach and much, much faster frames per second.

@derbagger22 thanks! i was starting with old releases because it's a newfound hobby, so i was restraining from just going in with a professional kit😂
@derbagger222 жыл бұрын
@@skorpion_king if that's the case, compare the RP to the R10. The full frame sensor is very nice, but the R10 can get you better autofocus and frames per second. For about the same price, new.

Is the Rp is a good camera for portraits photography? I can't decide what camera to buy in a low budget.
@kanehi3 жыл бұрын
I noticed you mostly frame the pictures up to the knees and not full body shots including the feet. Isn't it better to shoot at the person's eye level rather than shooting low? Shooting below eye level can sometimes exaggerate the face/body features such as making the body appear larger and the face smaller. Thanks for comparison.

I love 35mm for portrait. So much better than the boring traditional 85mm + ultra shallow DOF.
@MitchLally5 жыл бұрын
Makta972 I agree, 85mm has its place and its a good compliment to the 35mm but I personally love the perspective it gives.

The fact that the 35 is sharp at 1.4 is insane. Great technology.

Great comparison, however I have question. When shooting outside, the colour of Ana's dress looks different on both cameras. I think I prefer the RP, however what matters is which one is the most colour accurate?
@MitchLally5 жыл бұрын
FuzzyDuck it could have to do with minor white balance / exposure differences across the two cameras. All these pictures are edited too. They are both great cameras and I would say Canon is famous for their cameras not being perfectly colour accurate but rather representing colours in a more aesthetically pleasing way.
@BrandonColePhotography5 жыл бұрын
As far as picture quality they are gonna be the same that’s what people don’t get. Where they differ at is the FPS and video as the RP has that 1.7 crop in 4k also. For photo it’s easy. Video is where they differ

I appreciate the review, but I have to say I laughed when you said you had a long history of using Canon cameras, since 2013. 🤣 I bought my first Canon in 1995 if memory serves. 😉
@Jklecker6145 жыл бұрын
Given how different they are now than in 1995, 6 years is plenty. Going too much further back than 2013 just becomes redundant at some point, especially if you're talking film.

I bought my first Canon camera at 2011. Also at 1995 I wasn't born. It's was powershot camera. Now I have moved on to a much superior system. Now I have the A7Rii which still keeps up(actually I am wrong, it is still better than Canon's latest offering) to Canon's newest cameras. I still feel my PowerShot from 2011 is much better than the EOS R or RP
