Eosinophil Phenotypes are Functionally Regulated by Resolvin D2 During Allergic Lung Inflammation

Eosinophils respond rapidly when the body mounts an immune response. The different subtypes of eosinophils show differences in phenotype and function. However, little is known about the regulation and function of eosinophils during inflammation. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, USA, show that eosinophils are found as a heterogeneous population with unique states of activation. They also show that resolvin D2 is important in eosinophil recruitment and in resolving inflammation.
