Does room temperature have any effect on the test? I sharpen in my garage shop and it gets cold wondering if it effects the test media or score if its cold
@edgeonup44263 жыл бұрын
Hello Alexandria - The short answer is, Yes. This is a room temperature device. Temperature swings greater than +/- 5 degrees C can begin to effect measurement results noticeably (+/- 10 grams). Mike @ EOU

Thanks I was getting high number when it's cold but as the room gets warmed up they seemed to drop. It's around 4.4C in the morning in the garage so pretty cold. I think I will just do all the testing in the house from now on.

I've recently come across a video of someone supposedly getting a 25 off a butter knife as well as 8-10 on self sharpened knives on the PT50A. They say their method is legit, but I have my doubts. Is the steel in a butter knife even hard enough to get edge that thin?
@edgeonup44262 жыл бұрын
I'll just comment on the butter knife - I suppose that there are butter knives and then there are butter knives but the ones I've seen are, indeed, soft steel. My problem when attempting to sharpen soft steels is that it is very difficult (and it seems sometimes, impossible) to remove the burr properly and/or completely. Residual burr = high BESS scores but perhaps this individual knows some tricks that I don't.

@@edgeonup4426 Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to get an idea of what was possible since it seemed like the person was artificially inflating their business's abilities by using the tester incorrectly(no fulcrum, fast chopping motion, possibly over tensioned test media). I understand why you wouldn't want to comment on the other part of my post though, since this is public and you didn't see it yourself. Thanks again.

I was looking for a PT50A here in Italy, is it there anyone that distribute it in Europe or maybe ( better) in Italy?
@edgeonup44265 жыл бұрын
Hello Riccardo - EOU ships directly to Europe. Air freight charge is about $45.00.

Do you have an agent in indonesia?
@edgeonup44264 жыл бұрын
Sorry - we do not. The closest distributor to you is Australia or Korea. We ship directly to Indonesia and the air freight cost is $35.00.

The edge of a straigh razor can be damaged by the machine???🤔
@edgeonup4426 Жыл бұрын
Not if the edge is formed in a structurally sound manner, Zen. Our test media is composed of a polymer compound (plastic) and straight razors steel so which should be the winner in this struggle? However, our test media is capable of folding over or denting a wire, or false , edge.

Hmmmmm...................... I knew the feather was one of the sharpest DE blades out there just by using it. And I didn't have to buy a BESS tester.

As stated in the title, and again at beginning of this tutorial video, the purpose of this experiment was to measure the delta (difference) in sharpness levels of the two blades tested. Most of our customers are not only interested in determining the "how" but the "how much" as well.
