I apologize if this is a silly question. It is all so tricky! During a session, if my supervisor is present and doing on-site, which does this fall under? Do I track the hours (duration she is present) or simply as 1 contact? For more context, she is observing and providing feedback.

This would fall under supervised, and most likely restricted if you're working one on one with a client. But if you're discussing methodology and training, it could be considered unrestricted. But your supervisor being present and providing feedback as she observes you is undoubtedly supervised, and it sounds like it's restricted. Hope that helps!

It is a great explanation, with the minimum requirement, speaking in 2023, you only have to accrue 20 per month and NOT 10 per week. about the video, its all great but the dashing, all of a sudden sound with the characters, is super aversive :-)

Hi! Thanks for watching the video! From as far as I can tell, many of my cohorts are getting supervision by paying out of pocket to BCBAs who are accepting supervisees. They're contacting BCBAs by way of our university ( some of our co-instructors at FIT apparently offer supervision, though I had no idea until someone mentioned it) and others have made direct online only contact with some others. I can ask them and get back to you on how they got their hours.

@@KristenwWalker after some debate and discussion with people, it would appear remote supervision would be your best bet, but it would still be difficult to accrue hours as you would likely have to pay a lot of money.

I already signed my contract for this school year (22-23 SY) at the district I am teaching for. I am thinking that I may have to wait until my contract is up in May and go work full-time under a Supervisor in an ABA setting. I think this would be the best/most cost effective option for me?

@@KristenwWalker it's definitely an option. You do NOT have to be an RBT to receive supervision and in fact it could be a bit easier according to some since you don't have to follow certain rules as a certified/registered behavioral therapist. Remote supervision may also be preferred since it's hyperfocused on whatever it is you topically want to learn, but the most common supervision accrual is definitely through a clinic/agency setting as far as I can tell

Thank you! I have a question when you do 15 min of session at the beginning and at the end for unrestricted. Do thw times overlap? Let's say you have session 8am to 1pm, restricted time. Then 15 min would be 8:00 -8:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.-1:00 p.m.?

I would split them, and also ensure that those times are genuinely spent writing notes the whole time!

I just want to say, thank you for the most fluent and easiest explanation. Thank you for breaking down what exactly is restricted and unrestricted. Currently started to do my hours/practicum and was struggling up until your explanation. I wanted to ask if I was to write under task name/task completed for restricted it would be something like -> Skill Acquisition: receptive commands ? or do I need to break it down even more?

Thanks so much for watching my videos! I'm glad they are helping. To answer your question, I don't even break them down to task: that would be wayyyy too much lol. I literally calculate the first and last 15 minutes of every session (guaranteed .5 hrs of unrestricted hours) and approx 20% of the overall session time as unrestricted. So usually for, say, a 2 hour session, I mark .8 hr unrestricted (.5+.3) and 1.2 restricted hours= 2 hours. I should state: if your company requires you to state what each activity is, then go for it, but my company does not, and relies on me to track everything on my own.

hey I have a question, When my supervisor ask me how many hours do I have so far accrued, where do I start counting like what exactly do I count? the total experience hours that is on my EVF , or the total amount of unrestricted i did for the month plus my restricted hours ? this is where i get so confused

You'd have to ask her to clarify what she means. She's likely asking for total since you started. If she asks monthly, then it's likely your unrestricted plus restricted. Don't be afraid to ask your BCBA to clarify, it's what they're there for.

That's an excellent question! I think you'd have to contact the BACB about it to see what can be done, or at the very least discuss it with your supervisor.

hey Lynn! I have a few queries after watching this video. Firstly, is it necessary to do your fieldwork and coursework simultaneously or do we get option of first completing the coursework and then completely focusing on doing fieldwork and tracking those hours? Secondly, Throughout the fieldwork hours if we decide to change our supervisors due to any circumstances, is that possible or not? Please help me with these queries as they have been on mind for a long time and i would really like some answers ( majorly for some peace of mind purpose, haha). thankyou.

Hello! Sorry I've been working and haven't really been able to get back to my channel. To answer your questions though, here is what I know: 1( it is absolutely NOT necessary to do your fieldwork and coursework concurrently. Some of my cohorts started accruing hours after graduation, but you are ALLOWED to start counting hours after your first class in your first course has been taken. 2( it is almost expected for you to change supervisors throughout your accrual, it is absolutely possible to change supervisors when gaining your fieldwork hours. The only thing you really have to do is make sure you have a contract with each supervisor you have to count said hours. I hope these answers give you some peace of mind, again, so sorry it took me a while to respond!

Great question! Your hours will only count once you have started your master's program AND you have a FULLY SIGNED contract between you and your supervisor. Hope that helps, sorry for the delay!

Well the two main ways are through work that provides it (most ABA agencies provide supervision to keep Rbt hours in check) or to purchase them directly from BCBAs offering supervision hours.

Nope! As far as I understand, Both restricted and unrestricted AND supervised/independent hours are NOT OFFERED as part of the FIT academic course. They drill it into your head once you take orientation.

As far as I understand, it's ok to have more, but if it's above a certain amount, it's considered concentrated supervision hours, so it really depends on how many you have.
