EP 01: Why Are we Here? I The Qur'an Has It All I Sh Dr Haifaa Younis I Jannah Institute The Purpose of Our Creation: A Reflection for Ramadan As-Salam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Alhamdulillahi Rab al-ʿalamin, we have entered the first day of Ramadan. The night of Ramadan marks the beginning of this sacred month in the Islamic calendar. Alhamdulillahi Rab al-ʿalamīn, Ramadan is renowned as the month of the Quran, and over the next 30 days, inshallah, we will embark on a profound journey together. One of the most crucial questions we ask ourselves and even each other is: Why did Allah put us on this Earth? Why did He create us? The answer is found in the Quran: وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ "And when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.' They said, 'Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' Allah said, 'Indeed, I know that which you do not know.'" (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:30) This verse sets the stage for the creation of humanity. Before we were created, Allah had a profound discussion with the angels, declaring His intention to place human beings on this Earth as His representatives. The Role of Khalifah Allah decided in His infinite wisdom that this Earth would not remain empty. It would be inhabited by human beings, not by angels. He entrusted us with the responsibility of managing the Earth and all its resources, to serve Him and fulfill His commands. The scholars often ask, What does the word "Khalifah" really mean? A Khalifah can be understood as a successor, someone who brings forth new generations, and a representative of Allah on Earth. SubhanAllah, you and I are representatives of Allah ﷻ. But what does that truly mean? It means that everything Allah ﷻ has described Himself with in His beautiful names and attributes, He wants to see reflected in us. For example: Allah ﷻ is Rahim (All-Merciful); He wants to see Rahmah (mercy) between us. Allah ﷻ is Forgiving; He wants us to be forgiving towards one another. In another verse, Allah ﷻ explained the purpose of our creation without using the word "Khalifah": وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me." (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 51:56) When we consider the term "worship," we might think it solely involves praying, fasting, and reading the Quran. However, the definition of ibadah (worship) is far more comprehensive. Allah ﷻ does not require us to only perform rituals; He also expects us to fulfill our role as His Khalifah on Earth. Imam Ibn Taymiyyah beautifully described it: كُلُّ مَا يُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَيَرْضَاهُ مِنَ الْأَقْوَالِ وَالْأَفْعَالِ، الظَّاهِرَةِ وَالْبَاطِنَةِ "Every act, external or internal, word or deed, that Allah loves and is pleased with, is an act of worship." That is why we are here-to obey Him, to say what pleases Him, to do what pleases Him, and to stay away from what He dislikes. In doing so, we fulfill our true role as His Khalifah on this Earth.

Assalamu Alaykum Haifaa! i don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask this question here, but i really need an answer now that Ramadan is here. I have been ignoring a friend by not answering her messages bc honestly as soon as i answer her she is going to bother me with wanting to come over. I am honestly very uncomfortable with my friends coming over to my house and when this friend comes over , than it is no good. She will listen to music on high volume, tell me that she loves someone sooo much but then start to talk behind this persons back and so on. I ignore her only through not answering her messages, but when i see her i talk to her and there is really no fighting between us. I just ignore her messages bc she will want to come over. My question is.. am i allowed to do this in islam? I mean will my sins be forgiven in this Ramadan even if i ignore her messages? Thank you and Ramadan Mubarak from Morocco! 🌹
