The Shuttlepod Show

Күн бұрын

It's our pilot episode! Join Connor, Dominic, and Erica as they catch up with Dr. Phlox - Mr. John Billingsley himself! The producers face-plant our first trivia game (it will get better), the guys answer fan questions, and dive into working on the Star Trek: Enterprise series.
Mr. Billingsley also discusses his work with the Hollywood Food Coalition, a non-profit with an amazing mission. Shuttlepod Show is providing financial support to this special organization and we encourage you to do so too.

I was a fan from the beginning! How everybody was scared to use the transporter, polarize the hull (instead of shields), using alien rodents for medical treatments, Tripp getting impregnated…! Frankly, I enjoyed the first 2 seasons immensely. UPN was playing too much local programming and didn’t have the promotion. They’re gonna bring Star Trek Enterprise back. People are freaking on how good it is. I wish the studio would just announce it already. This is wanted by alot of new fans.

One of the very best Enterprise episodes was the one with the culture that was dying and the one was advancing where Phlox refused to heal the dying race. Phlox's interaction with the woman crew member especially when Phlox was concerned she had started liking him and she responds" "I do not want to become your wife number four. Let's just see how it goes?" Loved this episode and also Carbon Creek - excellent!! There have been a lot of great doctors on Star Trek, all of whom were excellently played and written, but Phlox will always stand out as my favorite, he had a joy for life that was wonderful to see, an unabashed excitement. In some respects he was a perfect anti-Vulcan, a species whose emotional depth brought them to the stars the same way that Vulcans' logic did for them. I wish we'd gotten to see more of the Denobulans in the franchise, they seem like a people I'd want to grab a beer with. Mr. Billinsley, you are a delight to watch, thank you for creating such an incredible character for us.

@@johnbillingsley4661 Well, that's it, I've peaked as a person, John Billingsley saw my KZbin comment. But seriously though, I do appreciate how you played the role. Modern television is nose deep in darkness and cynicism, if ever the world (or Star Trek) needed a Doctor Phlox, it's now. Anyway, thanks again for your hard work. As with all things Star Trek, for you it was a job, for us it was... well, it was more, it always is.

My favorite episode of Enterprise is 'Dear Doctor' with Billingsley. It had the biggest moral dilemma of the show, other than Archer stealing warp components from helpless space-faring species.
@Xyponx
@Xyponx 12 күн бұрын
'Dear Doctor' is a wonderful episode, but the biggest moral dilemma in my opinion came from S2E22 'Cogenitor' where a race with three genders enslaves the third gender which is necessary for reproduction between the other two genders. Archer stealing the warp coil from those helpless folks was the darkest moment in the show, but I didn't find it that big of a dilemma. "Needs of the many" after all. One ship vs 9+ billion humans, and the ship wasn't destroyed or its crew killed.

I just heard about this podcast from John and Norm on Mission Log and I can’t be more excited. 🥳🥳 I have been managing my depression by watching all of Enterprise on a continuous loop for the last several months. 🤪(except for the last episode that I refuse to watch) I don’t know how to explain why that helps, without sounding completely insane, but somehow it does. The crew is SO THERE for each other, it gives me hope for myself. Anyway, I’m SO HAPPY that two characters I’ve grown to love are friends in real life. I can’t wait to start watching this podcast.

Great 1st official episode. If your future shows are as lively & fun as this one, this is going to be a huge success. The Triva question about who died in the final episode was a trick question though. TRIP DID NOT DIE! In fact, Trip left sickbay & did a lap around the ship in his Starfleet blues while Malcolm shook his head and muttered "Bloody hell, Trip. Put some damn clothes on!" Anyways, great job guys. Keep it up. 💕💋💕

OMG, the idea of having Jasper, the prospect of possibly losing a child in real life, to equate that to an actor who is portraying a man losing a child, that for Conner, must have been crippling. I, as a father, who was present as both his daughter and son took their first breath of fresh air, to imagine that they would not survive, I don't know if I could take it. Props, my friend, mega props. Even to imagine, to act out the part of losing a child, it's heartbreaking. God Bless you.

Enterprise is underappreciated. I think it is one of the best among the 'classic' Star Trek shows. I always liked the way it captures a transitional aesthetic, from the world of space exploration we're familiar with into a warp drive-enabled future. It depicts a world right on the cusp, right at that moment of change. Everything has a kind of post-NASA feel about it which I love. It was a genius idea, one that I feel was most often well executed.

This is a fun show. So good to see you all together again. I loved Enterprise and felt that the powers that be at the time gave the show a crappy end. The show had really hit it's stride in that final season. The two parter set in the Mirror Universe was shear genius. Those two episodes were among the best Star Trek episodes of all the Star Trek series including the newest ones. Making the final episode of Enterprise what was really a Next Gen episode, really sucked. You guys got mugged with that series finale. I will be following your podcasts.

Just finished binge-watching all four seasons of STE on Netflix. It was pretty damned good. The writers hit the mark creating a culture that was a believable mid-point between life in 2023 and the society of Captain Picard, even with the small touches of having the actors wear ball caps in one episode. CE dates instead of star dates, all sorts of small but significant touches that really set a mood. And to think I hadn't even heard of it during the time it was originally airing!

I'm a reader too, love to watch you three interact, and spent every summer family vacation when I was growing up (1960s into the '70s) in Vermont, where The New Englander Motel in North Bennington was our annual 'base of operations.' Not only the modest entrance to Bennington College, but haunts such as The Benningon Lanes, the Benn-Bury Shop, the Blue Benn Diner, the monument, the Vermont Restaurant downtown (with its wonderful hot turkey sandwiches and 18-piece rectangular sheet pizzas), the Bennington Museum housing Grandma Moses paintings, and the imposing, full length slabbed-stone grave of Robert Frost in the cemetery of the Old North Church are all very familiar and fond memories to me, John. So this interview also feels a bit like going home. Thank you three for Dr. Phlox, Malcolm, and Trip. Such outstanding actors and a terrific interview.

I just subbed. Gates show came out and just a couple minutes in, I knew I needed to start from the beginning. I have hours of listening ahead! So excited. Loved ENT and really bonded with the characters on that show so much faster than the other series'. What a TREMENDOUS cast! It felt ensemble so much faster and was so relatable. You are all a credit to your profession. Thank you for the time invested and your contributions to a legacy of human optimism.

So glad I found this. I loved everyone on the show and thought Enterprise and DS9 were the two best. Was totally bummed when your journey was cut short. Have always hoped we could have more. Thanks for this, keep up the great work.

Enterprise has really gotten a better rap than it had at the time. My wife and I rewatch it on the regular. I love the nod it gets in Disco with the mention of their visit to Qo'noS and Archer space station. Having that music play when it's presented made me tear up!
