• Ep 1 - African Lion vs Siberian Tiger - Size comparison 2024

Today, we are comparing two adult captive specimens of big cats: Panthera tigris altaica (Siberian tiger) and Panthera leo (Southern lion).
Our featured individuals are Jupiter, the Siberian tiger, and Boboo, the African lion. While "Boboo" is his written name, his actual pronunciation is "Ba-boo." We apologize for any confusion, as he is referred to as simply "Boboo" throughout the video.
What makes this comparison better is that they're both (empty bellied) which means they haven't eaten any food which would've skewed they're overall body size compared to how they actually look - i.e empty bellied.
I was able to estimate the lions height and measurement because there was a reference point (item shown in the video), however unfortunately I couldn't do the same for the tiger as there were no reference points like the lion.
Unfortunately both cats passed away due to illnesses, the tiger covid and the lion cancer R.I.P.
Typo @4:00 I meant (mane) instead of 'man', also the shaved tiger is to give you a general idea of the fur of a tiger makes their forelimbs bigger than it actually is

You're exactly right! That myth had long been busted, according to John Goodrich head of a tiger conservation program states this to be misinformation/exgeggrations. (he's also been in the field to capture and weigh them) In reality they're smaller than bengal tigers and lions.

In the wild yes this is correct, they're actually considered subadults and not fully grown at this age. However, this is a captive lion, captive animals tend to grow and develop faster than their wild counterparts, 4:09 I showed a study that shows lions in captivity reach 'adult weight' at the age of 3, in that same study lions are considered adults at the age of 3 (in captivity) But it's shown they can still gain weight up until the age of 5 or more so are correct in that regard. No doubt, that lion is going to outweigh the tiger when he's full grown, great job finding out the real weight of the tiger, otherwise, tiger fans would of said it was 500lbs, not " about 500lbs." In these sanctuaries and zoos, even large tigers, I've seen it, when actually weighed for real on a scale," not estimates," the weight isn't what people think, this is a case in point of that, and I think there's many more examples, the size of the Siberian is still a bit of a mystery, they can be huge, but many aren't.

Yeah, I've learned not to usually take these things at face value because it's not always as fact (this will also help me significantly in an upcoming analysis video) Let's say.... It's going to expose alot.. Case in point to what you said, siberian tigers when actually weighed aren't what people expect, they not as big as the eyes tend to see it, I've seen some irl aswell, they're not that large, however there are some very large ones though, there's no denying that, however when people push the narrative that those exceptional sizes are 'normal' is misleading. Siberians are all round very fluffy, without it they're much smaller. I'm glad you've enjoyed the video!

The lion was also empty bellied aswell,So you can see their real body size and condition. The "belly fat" is called a primordial pouch. All cats have it, and it is bigger in some cats than others. It is a flap of thick skin thats purpose is to protect the cat's vulnerable underbelly during a fight. This individual lion has a large primordial pouch. It is not fat.

Generally yes they don't get much bigger after the age of 5 although its individualistic. They rapidly accumulate alot of weight for the first 3 years then it slows down, For prime ages it's not directly stated as we know wild lions are 5-8, I used my descretion and for captive males it could be 5-10. 11year old lions are considered aged/old (captive). If this were wild this would be way past its prime and also surpassed it's life expectancy too!

Yes they used to be, however due to climate and habitat loss they tend to only average 190kgs now making lions on average larger. However this doesn't mean all lions are larger Tigers have more "capacity" to become larger making them larger overall

The largest tiger ever recorded in the wild was an Indian tiger. The smallest tiger ever recorded in wild also was an Indian tiger. The Siberian tiger population is so small now, they are now smaller than the Indian tigers. The Indian tigers are not native to Bengal, those are the Sunderban Swamp tigers. The Indian tiger is found all over India & males do not store fat like the Siberian tiger. Tiger recorded strength is able to pull 1- 2 ton gaur.
