Great information, well done for this profound research! I have only one question regarding the difference of the suspension between the 2013 base and S models. You mentioned that the feel on the S model wasn't exactly what you expected and with the base (non electronic) version the "issue" didn't exist. Can you please please explain a little bit further the difference between the two in terms of actual parts that consists the suspension? Why the technician suggested to find a base version? Is there a more practical explanation considering, as far as I am concerned, that the only difference is the presence of the electronics? Thank you
@justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
Hello G, I tested both versions and did not like the lack of feel and feedback from the front on the S model ( I tried two different S models) and I much preferred the feeling from the base version. Plus it’s fully manual so I was further able to set the bike up how I like it. The S was very popular and for most owners it’s brilliant and very capable. It is just personal preference Carl

Hi, mine is the Manual suspension version not the skyhook, normally for 2013/14 the skyhook version is silver and almost all the bikes for sale have skyhook. You can easily tell by looking for the preload adjustment at the top of the forks. The skyhook version doesn’t have it. The Gold manual one does. Hope that helps you 👍 Regards Carl

Hello Carl what is your thought on comparing a 2022 BMW R1250 GS I purchased new last December and trading it in for a 2023 Ducati Multi Strada Rally version with all the bells and whistles. I have the rally version of the GS like you and like it but was considering the blind spot technology and the advanced cruise control on the Ducati. I know BMW just came out with the 1300 GS but will not be discounting anytime soon. I have just over 10,000 miles on the GS and can get a good deal on either the Ducati Pikes Peak or Rally at the end of season here in the Chicago area. I value your opinion and have added numerous accessories to the GS. I don’t do any off riding, I’m 65 and am afraid of breaking something and ending my riding career which I very much enjoy. So this would be for road touring and everyday riding occasionally having my wife on the back. I appreciate any feedback you might have. Thank you for any consideration Duane
@justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
Hello Duane Both are lovely bikes, but it depends on your riding style and requirements, i would probably go Pikes Peak if I was to choose but I tend to ride a little quicker than most. And I do love the kit and looks of the PP. Can you test ride both ? That would be the best way forward for you. Also I’m not sure if the ride height on the Rally version is higher than the PP, that might be a consideration for you too. Let me know which you decide on …. Lucky you to have two great bikes to choose between Carl

Hi Max, thank you for your comments, and I agree, deciding to become a Ducati owner is not a simple decision mainly because of, as you have highlighted… reliability issues. If you can perform your own repairs and maintenance and you move into Ducati ownership knowing about the potential problems that will occur… it can be an ok / nice experience. But it is still not like owning a well-built reliable Japanese Motorbike. I am currently working on the next two episodes…all about reliability issues. I hope you enjoy them. Carl

I swear Carl this bike is driving me mad. Changed the fork seals and oil 5000 miles ago to find them blown again today. And it's losing petrol from the pipe under the tank on the top of the horizontal cylinder connecting to some sort of 3 way metal splitter. I've had it since January and though the bike is amazing to ride, I'm thinking of selling it.

Hi Mike, good morning, sad to hear of your problems. It’s frustrating when problems keep happening when all we want to do is ride and enjoy so I understand your thoughts. @justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
Hello, you haven't mentioned condition or service history or wether its private or a dealer. If it's a dealer make sure you have some warranty. Most things are covered in the multistrada series on the channel, but by now most issues will have been resolved. Make sure EVERYTHING electrical works as it should and go for a least a 25 min ride to make sure the engine and gearbox work correctly when hot. Also the next valve check and adjustment is due at 30k, so calculate that service into your calculations. It's not cheap... They are great bikes, I wish you lots of fun. Best wishes Carl

Great info. I was in the market for a 700 /800 cc bike (think tenere 700, BMW f750/850gs), but I drove a 1200 2018 multistrada and got hooked. I'm from Portugal and I've seen some 2010 multistradas for sale (40-60k kms) as well as some from 2014 (same mileage, around 2000/3000 euros more expensive). What are some features I should look for when buying? Desmo service is one of the points to be aware of, right?
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
The easiest ones to work on are the 2010 - 2014 versions, try to find one with a service history ideally Ducati service history. Remember.... at that age, condition is far more important than mileage. So, a dealer serviced 2012 model with 50K would be a better buy than say a 2014 version with only 30K and poor or no service history. The Desmo service is the big one, she will need belts and valve adjustment... this needs to be completed by someone who knows what they are doing. So, finding a Multi that has this service done is a good start. One last tip... try joining your local Ducati forum and ask for a recommend local independent mechanic. you can save a lot of money if you can find one in your area, and they might know someone who is selling their bike. Check the oil, make sure its clean and has no signs of water in it, take each bike for good road test… 30 mins minimum to make sure you get the bike HOT and there are no issues. Make sure all the electronics work, horn, heated grips and fuel gauge are common failures. I will be covering these in later videos… Have Fun

So is there a problem with electronic suspension system? Is there a problem or you wont feel and confident on them? What was the problem with what they felt?
@justthewayitis Жыл бұрын
On the early 2013-2014 bikes the manual suspension was much better (IMO) than Skyhook, because you can feel what is happening between the tyre and the road. Once the manual suspension is setup correctly its very very good.

You made a mistake in your testing of the Sky hook suspension system. The mistake you made is that the system learns how you ride and adjusts over a period of time. You most likely didnt ride far enough to allow it to “learn” your riding to settle in on its settings. They do feel a little off when you first ride one until it adjusts to your methods of riding.
@justthewayitis2 жыл бұрын
I do understand your comment, but for me at least it's more about the feeling of connection between the tyre and road which I found lacking with the skyhook system, other owners also feel the same.
