I am sooooo tired of working and can't wait to just have FUN and learn how to draw fashion illustrations!!! In this brand new video series (of which there will be many!) you can follow along as I teach myself how to draw fashion figures, a proportionally correct croquis, faces, clothes and the whole sha-bang! I've been fascinated with this style since i was young. I started sewing when i was 7 and made my first garment when i was in 4th grade. I loved pattern illustrations but never thought i could draw! Right now I've committed myself to Inktober2017, but I'm going to play & learn along with you as much as possible. My part-time job has become full-time with overtime. Sketching brings me sanity. I love the gestural lines that suggest the body's natural contours on the second book you were using.

I am so jealous of your sewing know-how. My mom bought me a sewing machine a long time ago (like 20 years long time) and no matter how many times she sat me down to teach me I COULD NOT GET IT. But then art took over so I'm ok with that. That being said, I have always been fascinated by all things high fashion and am just awed by people that can design and make clothes. I really wanted to knock Inktober out of the park but I just couldn't get into it, ha!!! My husband always jokes that I have Art ADD. I am never doing the same thing for very long. Fashion Illustration has been a subject area that I have wanted to conquer FOREVER and so I thought while I was struck with the inspiration I should just punt Inktober and go for it. I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU DO THAT! These videos will live on KZbin forever so access them whenever the mood strikes! I am also organizing all of these on AwesomeArtSchool.com if you want to go back and access them there later on too. Sketching and drawing and art is my sanity tooooooooooo!

The traditional way is much easier. I got some fashion design books from the library.... Helped me lots. Fashion Design for Dummies is a good one. We are all learning.

It would have been helpful in the books if they had vertical lines too. Using graph paper is probably better than lined paper to get the vertical as well as the horizontal proportions

I LOVE this. I wish I had found it when you were starting out, but I didn't, so I want to start following now. I am REALLY tempted to jump to the end and see how you did, but I won't. It's the fun of the process and the joy of learning that are really important to me. Also thanks for making this series accessible to those of us with icky finances. I really appreciate that. You're such fun to watch - I love the sound efects and the way you talk to your girls. I do the same kind of thing when I paint, draw and generally create. I'm so glad it's free too because I'm not sure I teach anyone anything! Lol! Altho actually I think some really do get a lot of these because they have shared them with the FB group (you in there yet??) And they are GREAT! But maybe they'd be great anyways? All I know is that I had an absolute blast filming these and people do get value out of them then GREAT! And if not, then at least they are free and maybe got a chuckle out of it here or there! What?! Of course I bought them! If I got them from a library I'd have to bring them all back!!! No, I'm just kidding :) I really do have a book fetish, I wasn't kidding. I absolutely love books. I've written 4 art books (How to Draw Fun, Fab Faces series) and love nothing more than to support other artists by purchasing theirs. They make wonderful, permanent references. I use mine absolutely all the time. My kids have huge reading libraries too - there is simply nothing better than a good book! No matter what subject!

Um...NO! Not really :) It offers a bit of guidance and it's cool to have as yet another reference but I definitely would buy other books before spending my money on this. Also, it doesn't even mention the use of the paints it comes with at all other than writing about the color wheel??? So that's a big fat bummer too. :( . There are about a dozen books I'd recommend before that one I am sorry to say!

I am using lots of different books actually! If you keep watching you'll see I switch to another book and then end up using the text book called "9 Heads". BUT if you follow along with me you shouldn't have to buy anything!! That's my goal, anyways! But obviously the choice is entirely yours!
