To my knowledge it can take a minimum of 8-10 years to become a well-informed Shia mujtahid! But that is no real limit. There are people who spend 20 years or more before they consider themselves a 'mujtahid'!

@@Zarghaam12no. Ijtihad requires an ijaza or a confirmation from another Mujtahid. It is done from studying bahth alkharij (an external look into religious laws) under an existing mujtahid. However typically BEFORE you even get to bahth kharij you require 8-10 years in the hawza. After that it may take another 10-15 years for ijtihad depending on if the mujtahid teacher gives you permission. Therefore, there is no time limit.

Short answer: women can become mujtahideen. Women cannot become maraja taqlid. No reputable marja taqlid has ever said girls can be maraja. Sayed muhsin hakim, sayed khoei, sayed sistani, sayed hakim, Sheikh bashir, sheikh fayad, sayed Khamenei, sheikh wahid, sheikh golpaygani. Maybe you'll find one absolutely random person who declared marjaiya to allow it but that's it. This sayed is way off on the mainstream majority.
