Is anyone else truly convinced that Sterling is one of the most authentic, joyful, level, thoughtful, and aware humans in the world? Hearing his thoughtful reactions and watching his gleeful responses to these stories and memories just reminds me so much why I gravitated to Randall as my favorite character in this show. To be clear, EVERYONE from this show is an exceptional human. But there's something about Sterling that just makes me feel like he could make a friend out of anyone in the world.

Since 2016, This is Us had been the only emmy best drama nominated show that wasn’t rated R. It was the only show where there was no violence, profanity, nudity. It was about life as it is. So perfect.

Mandy's comment about the music is SO spot-on. As soon as I hear certain songs from the show, I have an immediate visceral response. My body can't help but respond to it. I have already saved a few of my faves to my KZbin Music collection. The music is a character that is crucial to this story.

@19:12 This Is Us started a month after my dad was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and I started watching because I heard nothing but amazing things (and who doesn't love Mandy Moore?), but only made it barely past the pool episode where Jack gives Kate his t-shirt. Realizing that Jack was dead in the current timeline was so heavy on my heart then that I could only come in for bits and pieces because the emotional weight was too heavy. My dad died the following January, so just 5 months after being diagnosed. I followed the cast on social media and watched clips on KZbin, but couldn't tune in full time again because the trauma was too much. It wasn't until early January this year that I could watch all the way through and it was a roller coaster. I identify a lot with Kate - weight issues beginning in childhood, guilt, daddy's girl - and watching her get her life together has given me a lot of hope. The cast as a whole, how they show what it's like living after loss including the good, the bad, the ugly, took such wonderful care of me. It was like chicken soup when you're feeling sick; comfort when your heart's broken. This Is Us held such a special place in my heart in the beginning, but I couldn't accept it in its entirety until 7 years later and I'm grateful. The Pearson family + all its extensions are my comfort characters and I'm glad to have a visual reference for what grief feels like when someone asks. My heart is so full that you all started this podcast. The This Is Us family (writers, producers, cast, etc.) deserve it all.

Thank you for sharing your story and beautiful commentary on what the show means to you and so many of us. This was free Tuesday night therapy! I came late to the This Is Us party (started watching in 2018) binge watched to catch up; watching until the finale. Started it a AGAIN in late 2022, in its entirety then again in May 2023 (after my Mother passed from a 6+ year battle from Alz). Each time I saw/caught something or FELT something that I hadn't before; that's when you know a show is more than "entertainment". I am so grateful to see the camaraderie amongst the cast. This podcast lets me know they understand the impact the "Pearsons" made in our lives.

I’ll never ever forget when this first episode premiered. I was 14.. in the hospital receiving chemo and in my first few months of treatment for childhood leukemia. My mom put on nbc so she could watch… I wasn’t quite sure if I would like it.. but I vividly remember when it started stopping in my tracks walking out of the bathroom with my IV pole.. and just being in awe. And watched how that show took us on a journey in just one episode. It was the most beautiful and meaningful episode of television I had ever seen. And over the course of the 6 years it just continued to blow me away. There is an ending scene I believe in the final scene where “to build a home” plays.. and I just remember thinking., that’s what this show is all about. The music and the ending sequences that go along with it that gives you another piece of this families story and has you on the edge of your seat ready to see what happens next. I’m thrilled to say on Thursday this week on May 16th I will be 6 years off chemo. This show truly took my mom and on a wild ride as our life was taking us on a wild ride. You all are amazing. I’m so thrilled for this podcast and cannot wait to rewatch this beautiful series. 💗

This Is Us came out at a formidable time in my life. I was 48, going back to school for my MBA, and my children were out of the house. My emotions were complicated. My husband's grief process as an empty nester was so very different from mine, we didn't speak the same language. We both had difficult bosses and work situations that added to our challenges as individuals and as a couple. I began writing my first novel around this time and between watching your show and writing my truth as a fictional journey of building relationships, they both healed me, through time. I felt akin to Rebecca when she gave up singing. I totally relate to Kate in her weight loss journey. I am Randall's twin with the anxiety and OCD behaviors. I fell in love with Toby and his grand romantic gestures. I loved Jack and his love story with Rebecca. When Randall and Beth had problems and made it through, it gave me hope for my marriage. My husband and I will be celebrating 31 years of marriage next month the same week my 3rd book comes out. What a difference 8 years makes! Thank you for making this podcast! And Chris? If my 4th book gets turned into a movie, you are my first choice to play the male protagonist 😊

I’ve been avoiding rewatching the pilot and the show in general for a while now… simply because I don’t want to go through that emotional rollercoaster again! But I think it’s about time that I sat down and really considered rewatching the show. It is, after all, one of my all-time favorites that I’ve tuned in for since the very beginning. And when I tell you all that I cried in literally every single damn episode, it’s an understatement. Anyway, this show means everything to me because of how realistic it is and how real and genuine the characters are. The writing is on another level, and I’ll forever be grateful and thankful for everyone’s involvement in the making of this show. “This Is Us” taught me about the importance of family and it’s such a huge source of comfort for me because family (blood or not) is everything. And the love that comes with it knows no bounds. It’s infinite and all around us! We can’t feel it, but it’s there because of the people we choose to share it with. ❤️ (I might have somewhat referenced “A Walk To Remember” that starred Mandy with that previous quote but I swear it wasn’t intentional until I reread what I wrote!) Also, the show is like therapy to me because of the amount of crying I spent doing. I’m an overly sensitive and emotional person, and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Crying is the most human thing we could ever do. It’s an expression that connects us to our humanity the most. And the reason I cried a lot while watching was because of the story of these fictional characters. It’s so similar to so many things I’ve witnessed throughout my life (some were about my own and others were about other people’s lives). The way it’s been crafted in such a cohesive and authentic manner that touches the audience is impressive, and it’s one of the main reasons why we all loved the show and continued to support it over the years. We can all relate to it simply because of how much thought was put into it to make us understand what the characters are going through. Once again, I can’t thank you all enough for creating this masterpiece, and the three of you now for deciding to do this podcast. It came at the right time for me and it’s very necessary for me to revisit it with you. This is going to be such an intense and emotional ride, and I’m looking forward to hearing more of every little thing you’ve got in store for us! 🥰

Chris is so right with the observation about all the prominent TV actors. It really makes it feel just like the show - existing in all times and no times and specific times all at the same time. Our memories of the 80s, 90s, 60s, etc., are already so shaped by our memories of TV. And this show totally uses that language.

I stopped watching the show for 2 years because it made me too emotional since I struggled with a lot of what the show centered around but I finally watched everything and I'm so glad I found this podcast now!

This TV show was my weekly therapy session. I don’t think there wasn’t an episode I haven’t cried. So many triggers I had with things I went through during my childhood/ teenage years. Thank you so much for doing this. The best and most honest TV show ever!

I have a playlist I listen to whenever I'm travelling with the entire This is Us playlist (+ all Mandy Moore albums) and it never fails to move me to my very core. I'm looking at the hills in Argentina (where I'm from) and the warmth and love from this show engulfs me and makes me smile (and sometimes cry). The music from this show is so underrated, from the original compositions to the specific songs used in some scenes... But of course, it's the talent of the actors what makes everything click together. I've loved This is Us since 2016, I've watched it a few more times since then and I am so happy you have decided to start this podcast. I am currently rewatching the show one episode at a time with you, and I am thankful to be able to enjoy it like this. Thank you. A huge fan from Buenos Aires

Best show ever I couldn't get into it at first (besides the 1st few episodes) but then some time had gone by, I had a son, etc. I truly think I was supposed to watch it at this time in my life.... The ending where Randall talks about his mom squeezing his hand and wondering what it could be. That shook me up. My grandpa passed from dementia and the last 3 days of his life he was in a coma in hospice. I didnt leave his side. Towards the end he squeezed my hand as I was talking to him & I will never forget it 💞 This show is gonna be a hard one to move on from but I'm truly glad I got to watch it. This Podcast is amazing to help us move on as well 😅

I loved this show from the very first episode. Always brilliant, always touching, always a tearjerker in such a great way. And William!! One of my fave characters of all time. In a later episode, when he talks about taking time to take it all in, that has stuck with me all these years later.
