One of the few Uli the Psychopath stuff I like, I own a real 909 since 1994 and always loved it´s sequencer.

Thanks for commenting. This is my first exposure to this user interface. So far, I really like it.

@@ozhalljr I own a Cirklon and tons of step sequencers and had this design as a dream in the 90s. Now has came!

A friend of mine recently got a Cirklon. Wow, what a beast!

I've got the RS-9 on the way. I'm gonna use it to sequence the Modbap Trinity drum module, along with the Behringer Edge and Neutron. I was originally just going to stay semi-modular with the Edge and Neutron but sequencing them hasn't been very fun. They don't want to play well with MIDI. They prefer CV. I'm sure there's MIDI wizards out there who can make it work and have it stay working when they turn it off and turn it back on, but I'm not one of them. I like CV because as long as there's power, there's a signal. I don't have to navigate some hidden menu or setting to change it to the right channel or whatever. The RS-9 might end up being the only sequencer I'll actually enjoy working with but we'll see!

Cool! Keep me posted. I should have another RS-9 video soon.

Nice addition to your system OZ. I am intrigued by this module and look forward to your investigation! I have just added a second 904A to my rig. Now I can do stereo low pass filter effects.

A second 904A is Great idea. I am looking forward to having more voices driven by the RS-9.

@@ozhalljr yes that is a terrific benifit of having the RS9. A super sequencer!

Would a beatstep pro be a better option if you're not going modular? Seems to do the same but has a couple more sequencers .
@TheDavidPoole2 ай бұрын
I'd say one of the RD drum machines. Otherwise you'll need all of the drum sounds as well.
@MG53v82 ай бұрын
@TheDavidPoole does the RS-9 have drum sounds in it ?

Oh RD drum Machines, yep I've got an RD9

Yes, I have a beatstep pro and I noticed the similarities as well.

@@MG53v8 if you tried ro achieve what the RD-9 can do via modular you are looking at at least 100 bucks per drum voice plus the RS-9. If the RD-9 has 11(?) drum voices you are looking at about 1300 bucks. Half the drum voice count if using something like Brains\Plaits and smart programming. The RD-9 is sub 300 bucks

I’m not sure. Synthtribe software will tell you when a firmware upgrade is available.

Would you say this is a good addition to a system 55? I haven’t added a single module to mine yet but I’ve been looking. I also need something for reverb/effects do you have a module you recommend that doesn’t destroy my wallet?
@ozhalljr2 ай бұрын
I think the RS-9 is a great addition to the System 55. I'm really liking the user interface so far. If you like the idea of modular drums, it is an upgrade over the second 960 sequencer. My first recommendation is to check out the "what's missing on the System 55" video (if you have not seen it). Substitute the 1630 Freq for the ring modulator. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYatgWqflNR7pcU R.E. the reverb module, this is a thornier issue when you consider $$$. I've been very pleased with the FX in the Behringer XR12 and XAir 18 mixers. Plus, you can save snapshots of the effects parameters (in addition to the mix). You're looking at $330+ New and perhaps $250 used. If you want to manipulate the parameters via CV, it's going to cost you more. I owned a 4ms Dual Looping Delay Eurorack Module. I really liked it. I only sold it because I was building modules that did digital delay well.

One other thought on the FX. The Mutable Instruments Clouds module has a good sounding reverb and it has CV control. I have one of these (based on Clouds), that I really like: reverb.com/item/84246431-grayscale-microcell-2020-black

Worth the space?
@ozhalljr2 ай бұрын
I think so, at least in the context of a System 55. I had a second 960 sequencer in this location previously. This rhythm sequencer gives me 10 outputs with variable voltage. plus another 10 accents. That's very useful for doing rhythmic parts. It will also do polyrhythms, which the 960 will not.
