Күн бұрын

Welcome to Episode 1 of the new No Excuse Video Podcast.
In this episode, we are hugely lucky and honored to introduce to you our first guest; former Royal Marine Commando, a veteran member of UK Special Forces, namely the SBS ( Special Boat Service ) and now the founder of the innovative new suspension training system - SF1, Tony Hayes.
Tony speaks of his early teens in which he fell victim to an attack in which he was stabbed numerous times through to starting a business, joining the Royal Marine commandos during his mid-twenties before then joining the SBS.
In a face to face long-form conversation, and after talking in depth about his life before the military, Tony talks about his experiences during special forces selection, touching upon mindset, resilience as well as the real-world difficulties faced by operators who continue to work in highly kinetic operations for long periods of time.
As the conversation and the camera, the battery comes to an end! - Tony talks about the new SF1 suspension trainer, its origins, and it's future.

Hey Jamie, Great show! Former US Marine. Love your show. Really good interviews. What boots are you wearing in that 1st podcast you did. Spent some time with some RM Commandos back in the day. Absolutely loved my time with them. We shared a ton of valuable and life saving things together. Some of the most squared away and most professional Lads I’ve ever been with!!! Incredible interview, from both you. Tony's story is obviously amazing and the way he articulates his experience was inspiring. The way you balance interjecting points, ideas and questions with sitting back and letting the guest talk continually is great. Also very well but simply produced. Can't wait to listen to some more of your podcasts, keep doing what you're doing! No doubt you're going to build a brilliant platform.

What an interesting insight into the state of mind he developed to going through SBS selection. Getting all of the nerves in the preparation stage and doing and endurance test by being well prepared , and then feeling relaxed and concentrating on execution performance to get through a tough phase.

Very interesting,&honest Vid! .And after leaving the UK in 1999 ((being born&raised into ur typical large Irish ☘️ family,8 kids in London..like a lot of people had back then, pretty tough to say the least) And moving to the US,(which is where I live now/ it's another world here!)I most def identified with the loss of identity (even though I was desperate to leave my job of 14 yrs) I don't think u are prepared for that challenge,I know I wasn't! I totally underestimated how hard it might be or just failed to recognize transitioning isn't a smooth process!

I used to be involved with gangs, One time me and a guy I had previous fight with were having a “talk” down some ally, I used to carry knife this one time I didn’t have it, he had his tho and he was holding it and I could even see his arm twitching wanting to stab me, he was threatening me and all sorts, thankfully my friends showed up and he didn’t want an all out brawl so he left. Never have I felt such fear, I realised I might have to actually try to kill this guy just to survive this encounter, all over a fight we had weeks ago. Havnt been in the “gang life” since and took me a long while to get over the paranoia. I still get flashbacks and heart gets pumping an shit. That encounter changed my whole outlook on life, things you don’t even think of can actually be quite significant to other people

Guys this was mega, not like some of these kind of chats were people are chest beating all the time, really struck accord with me after leaving the military after 27 years and really struggling with “identity” as you guys discussed, it wasn’t until after a couple of years fucking about in really shite jobs I joined the police were I got somewhere near the “identity” I had in the military, still plodding on (excuse the pun) but yeah I think if I had had a chat with someone prior to leaving the military about losing identity that would’ve really helped me to prepare myself for the shit storm to come 😆 I wish you guys all the best for the future and look forward to more of these chats, Tony, I wish you every success with the SF brand and thanks for sharing a tiny bit of your story. Very glad the algorythm popped this up. I have been following US podcasts such as Jocko, Cleared Hot, Mike Ritland etc and always felt the UK vet community must have so many valuable lessons to share and yet there isn't much content out there. I understand that the UKSF abide by the "silent professionals" code far more than their US colleagues but this episode is a good example of how they can stay true to that while still passing on life lessons. Looking forward to a lot more 🤙🏻

Great podcast, great guest. Anyone thinking we're kind of fetishizing the military though? I mean, yes the elite of the military are impressive, but they're no more superhuman than elite academics, elite medics, or elite sportspeople. Plenty of the latter come from tough backgrounds, have the odds stacked against them, are "selected" from thousands of candidates, have extremely difficult jobs, and don't make excuses. Not taking anything away from the SF guys - their achievement is obviously great.

Moving forward there will be lots of variety in those conversations you will watch and hear on the podcast although initially they will be police and military biased, simply as they are stories from those I know and that I want to share. I think I get where you’re coming from: everyone has their part to play etc. etc. Kudos to the engineers, technicians who all do something extraordinary in their own way. I suppose most of us do. But can we do it when the bullets are flying and the mortars are landing? Not sure I could. And that’s why we rely on the tough kids, from the tough estates to do that for us.

Quite an interesting chat. Sympathetic interviewer. Nice try for a first attempt! The set needs work - staring at 2 guys' knees isn't great, the space behind is not easy to make out, and the sound could be improved

Can they talk about their literal experience's? I hope so! No names, places. Just the grind and doing it. Some jucy shit, should be good, or at least some stories....

jesus lads this is so much where I am I miss it all after 23 yrs, they don't understand me! I don't know if I can talk to civvies or in some cases military. It's costing me my health and my family! I don't know where I go I'm not the most confident man I'm struggling even if you can't help I think what you are doing will be great for others, I'll find my way not brave enough to do myself in, I am pissed and it seems like this is the only time I can talk but by then I'm that pissed that my civvy life just thinks I'm lost and give sympathy I don't need that!!!

A up mark, think back to when you decided to join up. Think about all that effort you put in to the phys to get in. All those miles and push ups you did out of choice to make sure you made it through the fitness test. If you can call up on 50% of that mindset you can get back on your feet. Booze is great belive me I love it but its not the be all and end all. Let's be honest the booze gets boring after a while. Fuck what anyone else thinks bud, you've done more than most will achieve.

Hes out of his depth. Your right in your introduction. Most soldiers are family men and women and thats all that matters.Yes ,they bring the Animal in them out on military operations but they are soft inside. "Respect" .
