When you eat a whole food plant-based diet, you don't have to count calories or percentages or measure things out to feel great and lose excess fat.. You just eat plants as close to their whole [natural] form as possible, in other words unprocessed, whenever you're hungry, and until you're satisfied. I've been vegan for 3 and a half years, but I still indulged in vegan junk food whenever I wanted and I stayed the same weight, until just recently - I've been losing 1-2 lbs every single week without feeling hungry, deprived, angry, any of those side effects that make diets unsustainable. I just wanted to explain that so if anyone is interested in getting healthy, losing weight, AND feeling at peace while they do it, start to self-educate about a whole food plant-based diet. [Or if you want recommendations where to start, let me know.]

For documentaries I'd start with Forks Over Knives, What the Health, and then The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue (all 3 are on Netflix). For a couple KZbinrs showing what kind of meals they eat on a regular basis: Ellen Fisher and Mr & Mrs Vegan. The latter have a totally free e-book guide that has a shopping list, meal ideas, etc. A short video about a free app I find really helpful: nutritionfacts.org/video/dr-gregers-daily-dozen-checklist/ And to read a bit: www.forksoverknives.com/whole-food-plant-based-diet/#gs.J_QR6ek Hope these help get you started! :)

To the young woman trying to plan to pay for school... While I certainly don't want to encourage getting up to your eyeballs in debt - first, as other have said, there will be other options to pay along the way and you don't need the entire sum beforehand. But more importantly... your time has a value too. Your experiences of life have value. This is one of the most incredible times in your life where you are growing emotionally and discovering yourself and experiencing lots of things for the first time and so much more. This is an amazing and precious time in your life, a time that might shape the person you become down the road strongly, a time many people look back on as one of the best parts of their life. Give yourself the chance to fully experience it, enjoy it, embrace everything that happens in the now. Not, of course, to the detriment of your future - but don't sacrifice everything for the future to the detriment of now either. You will never have now again and you don't know what the future will bring. The future might change - you might end up not even going to school - who knows? Life takes unexpected turns. Do some preparing and planning and saving and hoping and dreaming - but don't forget to do the living either.

Man the meat haters are deep in here. I ate extremely close to vegetarian for years... was hypoglycemic the entire time... and continued to have problems with my weight, especially the older I got. I switched to paleo and my entire body changed... my entire metabolism changed ...and I could not be happier, or healthier . As a matter of fact you could not pay me to start eating grain again... especially wheat... unless I was literally dying of starvation and had no other choice I would never put it in my body again . so this is my suggestion... instead of blindly attacking people based off of their choice for themselves, have an open mind and realize that people are different and they have different needs. what works for you may not work for someone else.

I have to wonder how much this mindset contributes to the already transient nature of today's society. we already have so few objects that are concrete.. as in not digital or virtual and made to last.. things that are historical to our lives and our families lives. I just think that completely disregarding historical inheritance is setting us up in say twenty years to basically have nothing to show for our families or where we come from or who we were. How is anything going to gain value or have an importance if everything is disposable?

waymire01 I am sitting in a house filled with other people’s furniture, pictures and needlework. It is a burden. At 56, I don’t want to force my adult children to be the caretakers of dead peoples stuff. Our stuff is not our legacy. Our connection to family is not in our tchotchkes. The concept of “ some day” or 20 years down the road is old. I WISH that my dad spent one tenth of the time with my kids as he did on creating needle work as his “ legacy”. My kids don’t remember him except liminally. Same with my mum. The petit point roses don’t fit into any decor except in a museum. My Grandparents were all long dead before they were even born. I could literally buy some dishes at goodwill and pass them off as grannies and they would mean nothing more than clutter to them. Our kids can travel, explore and not be tied down by stuff. For what it’s worth, I don’t want to be a vase of ashes on their dresser, either. That’s not a legacy. But sneaking down to the graveyard to feed spiders in the middle of the night, now That’s A legacy. She’ll tell her kids and grandkids about that if she has them.

How did " I don't want as much stuff in my life" translate to "I refuse to give anyone else gifts for special occasions"? really? sounds like a big fat excuse to me, for not wanting to bother to go through the effort. I don't see how giving SOMEONE ELSE a gift on one day , or let's say two days if we count Christmas and birthdays, of the year is in any way violating YOUR minimalist mindset. why would you destroy a family tradition over that? if you feel that strongly about it then give them something that is less of a thing and more of something to do , or just a gift card or something.. but gifts aren't about you, they're about the person you're giving it to. as for gifts to you, simply ask people to give you something usable.. like say a gift certificate for dinner... but whatever you get be gracious. minimalism does not give you the right to be selfish and " scroogey". say thank you.... mean it ...and go on about your life.

Your opinion does not give you the right to tell someone how they should handle gift giving or how live a minimalist lifestyle. If you want to give gifts, go ahead. Nobody is stopping you.

Vanessa Ponce Dugan LOL ! that is probably the biggest cop-out of ever heard of my life . these guys are giving their opinion ...you're giving your opinion ...but my opinion is the only one that is invalid? really? could your opinion be because you're a lazy Scrooge Who uses minimalism as an excuse to ignore and disrespect your family and friends? I'm betting it is.
@HautePinkFluff
@HautePinkFluff 6 жыл бұрын
Nobody said your opinion is invalid. You're using your opinions to judge and to come to this conclusion that all people who don't give gifts are disrespectful. Other than what you hear in these podcasts and in their books, you know nothing about these people and whether they actually "ignore and disrespect" family and friends. Instead of getting upset over someone else's choices, how about you do you want you feel is best as far as gift giving goes and go on about your life.

Everyone has their own love language. Some don't like gifts period. Plus why need to get sucked into consumerism just because everyone else is? Why not do more meaningful traditions?
