Johan is awesome! Always love his videos. I'm never ashamed to admit I love the Ace Frehley tone as well. Ace and that tone inspired me to pick up the guitar when I was a kid.

Same. A lot of big guitarists quote Ace as the reason they started playing.

I felt a bit bad for Johan as he sat and listened to the comments:“wouldn’t it be great to have such and such guest on...” guess this is more of a chat than an interview show.
@Joe-mz6dc3 жыл бұрын
Yeah those comments come up frequently on Tone Talk. The guest is sitting there as people ask questions of Dave and/or there is a discussion about how great it would be to have a certain guest on. It's cool though. The guests don't take it personally. This is an informal podcast which is one of the reasons it works so well.

70s-era Ace Frehley is definitely one of my "benchmarks". I think all of his Alive! solos are truly live...it was mostly vocals, bass, and Paul Stanley's guitar that were redone in the studio.

One of may favorite things about Johan’s videos is that there is no noodling or wanking. Just great classic riffing. He doesn’t try to wail or show off. I can’t stand someone “demoing” a piece of gear, and then trying to shred at a million miles per hour. You can’t hear the tone at all. Johan plays perfect riffs that fit the sounds he’s demoing.

Johan is such a nice and humble guy! Been following his channel for years. It's like a proper comprehensive encyclopedia of Rock guitar for everybody. It was so cool to have him as a guest in Tone Talk!!! 😄😄😄 I wish it lasted longer!!! Just as a side note and not a diss at all to the amazing work you guys are doing: would there be a way of redirecting certain questions to the "ask Dave" episodes? Those are supercool too and I enjoy them greatly. But sometimes having interesting guests in the program watching paint dry while people ask very specific questions about their own specific Friedman gear can be a bit redundant at specific times, but really cool and appropriate at others. Thanks for the show and keep up the great work!

Mismatched Power Tubes - I had a THD Flexi 50 that you could bias the power tubes independently, so you could run unmatched tubes, or intentionally run the tubes mismatched. I traded it in though for a 65 Amps Lil Whiskey Combo, with it's Friedman designed dirty channel, which I run the gain at 4 most of the time.

Interesting discussion about filtering and ghost notes. I have a blackface amp that has ghost notes but I stuck close to the original filter values when I recapped it. I don't want to sacrifice the great feel of the amp to reduce the ghosting.

He'd ship that to the UK to be sold, then fill the container with marshall cabinets & heads for the return leg. Unfortunately the time I met him he had moved on to Ferraris.
