Here is the prefect chassis to use when doing a 1/25th scale 70's NASCAR build. And NOPE! It is NOT the 1/25th scale AMT "Ford" Chassis

BUT... the 1971 Ford NASCAR chassis built by Holman Moody were based on the 1966-1971 Ford stock chassis, with a 1966 Galaxie front frame stub (narrowed 2 inches) attached. NASCAR allowed fabricated frame stubs starting in 1969 and they followed the Ford 1966 Galaxie dimensions. The Polar Lights Torino/Cyclone chassis is a perfect representation of the ANY 1966-1971 Ford NASCAR race car, especially any of the Wood Brothers cars.

i have done the same as a kid back in the 80s n 90s ... 1/24 chassis with 1/25 body. done this with a lot of model kits and used to get dirty looks and yelled at by other modelers back in the day for it ..... i still do it lol ...... w.i.p. of a 1/24 chevell pro street chassis to a 1/25 68 camero body for a garage diorama im building. glad to hear another modeler doing the same .... too many DONT think "out of the box" (pun intended) when doing a kit

I did something similar to what you are doing but the complete opposite. I got a Revell Richard Petty Superbird kit, but it just had a normal interior and chassis and no race set up whatsoever. I cut the engine bay and side window pillars out of the body for accuracy and trimmed the side windows off of the windshield to fit. I still needed a cage and chassis, so I took a JR Charger chassis and put it at the longest wheelbase, and it was pretty much the perfect length. Then I built the cage but chopped off the top half and built my own to extend it vertically about 1/4" until the bottom of the body lined up with the bottom of the chassis and sat level. I also built my own parallel rear cage braces and inner braces inside of the cage. Then I used a 1/4" foam tape strip on both sides of the body between the wheel wells to give the body a tight, centered fit on the chassis. It came out really nice and looks great. There is just a gap between the body and dash/firewall but you dont see it anyways. The engine cage and radiator shroud lines up nicely after removing the engine bay from the body.

Dunno? Had problems because of the 1/24-1/25 issue. A lot of cutting & grinding. That Cyclone is a bear @ the lower rockers. Fitting grey ghost pointed this out. Still a GR8 vid. Many thanx Boss. Be safe 🦊

The scale play not only works for cars but any scale model you want to make modifications to. Scale is a great way to cut down on effort and cost. I sometimes don't get why people shun the idea of playing with scale when it's an obvious powermove most of the time.

GREAT VIDEO! Made me brainstorm, i painted the Pepsi #54 MPC Chevelle and HATE! The chassis! There are so many great options to go under this body and for cheap! And AMT stock cars are like a virus! Ya can’t give Em away!

I haven't messed with model cars since I was a kid, but these videos are very helpful for the real thing, too. Lol I have a '72 Mercury Montego GT, essentially a rough body with no interior, and I want to build as accurate of a representation as I can of a Banjo chassis 70s stock car out of it and take it road racing. I don't even care what class of SCCA or NASA road racing I can get into or how competitive it'll really be, I just want to experience real wheel to wheel racing in an early 70s stock car. Even got a 4 bolt main Cleveland block with 4 barrel heads to build for it.

I really like the idea, but not used on that particular year (1970-71) Mercury Cyclone. It could work as a "curbside" only. But us really OCD NASCAR fans/competitors of the 1970's onward know that Revell "Banjo" chassis has the wrong rear spring setup for a 1970-71 Ford/Merc. They were LEAF spring cars in rear. Your conversion is the 1972 onward "Truck Arm" COIL spring setup, (and is totally accurate for 1972 onward Ford,Merc. Chevy.

Throughout all of fb talking about a rear steer stock car in all of NASCAR i have gone back from the 60's on up and i have no idea what you guys are talking about ''rear steer'' Luka you just said that brought it to mind is why i commented here.
@TheLukaCeeChannel
@TheLukaCeeChannel Жыл бұрын
Rear steer and front steer refers to where the steering linkage on the front end is set either in front or behind the steering knuckle of the front suspension. It makes a big difference on how a car feels and reacts in the turns.

Unrelated, but I finally had the chance to try out the bottle of AK interactive Xtreme chrome I bought. Maybe its me being heavy handed. But I'm having a hard time getting a good finish. It's kinda weird acting honestly. The 3d printed mags I'm doing seem to have a chrome finish on the top surfaces. But down on the spokes, and crannies. It's coming off silverish. Went back to my years old bottle of Alclad. Not a problem, all over chrome finish. And before anyone asks. Yes, the prints were prepped correctly. Lol Haven't tried Molotow yet, since the Alclad is proven. :/

Funny I’ve taken the nascar Montego/Cyclone and turned into a stock car . I’ve used both the AMT ‘69 Cobra ( Torino ) and the Revell ‘70 Torino GT . So sad MPC ( and others ) ruined these great “stock” cars to make nascar/dirtcar/dragcar and the kits have been ruined in my opinion !
