I recently had a mini-stroke and was hospitalized for it for four days. The hospital would not let me have caffeinated coffee, a meatball sandwich, a hamburger (they slipped me an Impossible Burger instead!), and no salt for anything. I was allowed to consume carbs, processed snacks, sugary puddings, fruit juices, and soda. When I skipped meals they were concerned. Since my initial symptoms included nausea, the hospital staff assumed that I was still feeling that way, which I let them think that even though I wasn't nauseated at that time...except by their menu. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone, but, I should not have been surprised by this.

It's disgusting that hospitals promote the SAD diet like this. Even DASH diets a d Mediterranean diets were not good for me. When will the medical profession (especially hospitals) wake up?

They wont pay for decent food. They want to build up the patient with easy cheap carbs as fast as possible and get them out of there with a long list of prescription drugs, and see you next time. If you want a proper healthy recovery go see a functional doctor instead.

I truly believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I break my fast usually at 5 o´clock pm and its usually the only meal I eat. Thats why it´s so important to me. I never eat in the morning because I´m not hungry yet. Thank you so much for your down to earth teaching. You are a legend.

Nothing my barely educated grandmother back in Europe did not know. Yes. We didn’t have Kellogg’s. We could get freshly slaughtered chicken, cattle organ meats, pasture fed eggs, farmer’s cheese, butter and locally grown vegetables and fruit in season. Fish caught in lakes, rivers or in Baltic Sea. There was nice dark dense bread sliced thin. We drank vodka shots but not wine by the bottle. Socialized after working. Only sick people took certain prescribed to them vitamins. We walked a lot. The kids played soccer, volleyball or simply horsed around until dark. Most people died in their 80’s or older.

Since I'm eating my breakfast between 1-4 PM With 18/6 or 20/4 daily fasting protocols, my body fat dropped form 19% to less than 10% between 2019 December and November 2020. It's all about food and to be more precise, about eating max 20g of carbs per day or less. Even if I trained 3x times per week High intensity interval training for years, my body fat didn't drop until implemented keto + IF. The rest are fairytales.

Going keto was more simple for me than actually re-learning how to trust my body's natural hunger and satiety cues. I've found that the simpler the meals, the easier it is for me to know when I'm done eating. You just hit what I call the "taste wall". It's when the food stops tasting good and the thought of eating more almost grosses me out.

Garbage and BS are your favorite medical terms. Thank you for this video which reinforces listening to our bodies, not our addictions when it comes to food. I frequently follow OMAD and have found, as you said, that the later in the day that I eat, the less I crave carbs. Also, for me, that craving usually kicks in @ 8pm on days when I eat earlier. It's taken me almost a year to figure out on my own to eat later in the day to avoid that craving. Wish I had heard of your videos sooner. I could be ahead of the game now instead of catching up. Thanks again.

The bonus one was an important lesson for me. Chasing the keto chips and cookies is like vegans obsessing over bacon look-a likes. It keeps you too tied-up in old habits. Once I could stop those habits I started loosing weight again. I can now willingly splurge on a keto “fat-bomb” as dessert at times but I stay aware that it’s a splurge on a pretty strict carnivore diet.

"Carbohydrate look-a-likes do not belong in a standard human diet or Fatbombs." Great info Doc! Deep down my conscious was telling me this but I was hoping it wasn't so... I realized this because I use my peanut butter/ Coconut oil/ Ghee/ Monk fruit/ Almonds Fat bombs as a dessert and also as something to eat to relax to watch TV late at night. Lightbulb moment! I see I'm using this not to feed my body but my substitution ( and convincing myself that I needed the extra fat when I am actually eating for the pleasure). Hi Dr. Cywes! I'm a recovering carb addict. I hired "Light Celeste" to coach me in intermittent fasting, and she helps me FOCUS and not try to tackle too many new things at once. Like, I've been doing a 17/7 eating/fasting schedule for about 4 weeks. Now I will try a little longer fast. Celeste also helps me manage my emotions and imbedded habits with food. I just wanted to share that with you, and let you know that your videos are a cornerstone in my recovery and healing. Every time you teach me something new, it nudges me forward, to take better care of myself. Thank you!!

What a crush I have on Dr. C!!! I'm soon to be 71, as straight as . . . something very straight . . . but Dr. D turns something on in me -- my brain, I think. "Garbage" and "Bullshit" are great choices for his favorite medical word, but I was hoping he was going to go with good, old-fashioned, now so off-limits "S-T-U-P-I-D." Hell yes, it's judgmental -- that's the whole point of saying something is "stupid." I do draw the line at calling people "stupid," that's not only cruel, it's . . . what's the word . . . oh, yes, it's a "stupid" thing to do. People are very smart, all of us -- it's just that our minds can be uniformed, misinformed, ill-informed and that can make the things we do, say, and believe "stupid."

Def B.S and garbage! Thanks for all your help! Lost 63 lbs since May and feel great. But it’s the addiction part and breaking free from carbs that make me feel even better. Happy New Year from Ontario, Canada!

I absolutely love Redmons Real Salt. Never realized that other salts would taste different than table salt, until I tried Redmons. Now it's all I use.

#2 was the most interesting to me. I’ve always thought eating right before bed was inherently bad, but this concept of not giving yourself that vulnerable gap to binge eat on unhealthy foods between your last meal of the day and when you go to sleep makes an incredible amount of sense. Thanks doc, great advice 🙏

I would say it is BS, better to eat earlier for you to get a longer fast

@@Sherukka Not really following your logic here. If you want a long fast you would eat OMAD, so the time at which you eat wouldn’t matter 🤔

Jason Fung among others provide studies that show eating later in the day is inferior for weightloss. It does make a difference. My preference is to eat before bed but my fasting blood sugar is lower if I eat earlier. I agree that fasting at night is harder than fasting in the morning but it’s worth it for me

Helpful video! I would say that, for (recovered) diabetics, eating early in day can be helpful. I still fast 18-19 hours. From 2pm to 9am. I eat 2MAD and follow a LCHF/Meditteranean food plan. I get up early so eat about 2 hours after waking. Stopping at 2pm allows me time to digest and walk to burn off glucose from meal.
